I am sick of this club leaking like a boat made of Swiss cheese.

Our news doesn't come from the club; it comes from Tom Morris or Kane flipping coins.

Whoever is doing this needs to see the door asap.

But how do you know it's the club and not a third party?

Say for example a player manager, partner?

Because some of the stuff that has come out of the club only board members or key FD staff could know.

Or we could just bury our head in the sand.

WRT Chocco moving on, Cornes and Williams are pretty close. Cornes doesn't break many stories at all because he's not a journo he's a commentator. So it's pretty clear who told him.

Leaks have been an issue that I would hope we are able to clean up but I actually think the fact that the Goodwin news got out 12 hours after he was told is not really a massive problem. If the players weren't told before that got out then it speaks to a problem with our internal comms not getting on the front foot quick enough.

The worst leaks I've ever seen were over the last couple of years surrounding the Petracca/Oliver stories. We were hearing details about internal conversations between players it was that bad. Thankfully we haven't seen anything at that level this year.

I’m starting to see a trend, since we pulled the Kalani White story until the AFL made the announcement , probably everything has to go via the AFL who possibly pass to their favoured media. Sceptic maybe, maybe not.

Control the narrative, very WWE.

There is certainly a bit of this. Having certain journo's on the drip isn't a necessarily a bad thing if it's a club policy and you are careful about what information is getting out. For example, giving a journo a story about a big hire, sacking or trade target is really just letting them break a story that is about to get out anyway.

The issue is when certain actors decide to go off on their own steam and leak information to suit whatever their personal agenda might be.

I think in recent times we've had various people within the club leaking info to try and control the narrative around a particular story but basically having it all blow up in our faces. It's always ugly to see dirty laundry being aired out in public.

3 main avenues for leaks whether in sport, politics, news, business etc...

  • Deliberate tactic by those in charge. In our case, the board & executive staff of MFC.

  • Disgruntled people with access to internal info - players, family, staff, board members.

  • A journalist with the ear of an internal person

Unfortunately, it looks like all three have been in full swing at MFC for a couple of years now, which is worse than disappointing. I HATE leaks, even more the unspoken acceptance that it is both a necessary and normal part of the information spread throughout the AFL.

For so long through Goodwin's coaching tenure, there we almost no strong leaks within MFC, something I was proud of. Now it is a dog's breakfast. I hope that Steve Smith, Paul Guerra and our new coach can sort this out.

Don't forget to check under your beds for Reds before you go to sleep.

Don’t have to, plenty on the TV every night.😁👍

There’s 3 kind of leaks:

  • important stuff that shouldn’t leak

  • information disseminated via preferred media channels for positive coverage and/or damage control

  • information that involves other people who don’t owe you any confidentiality

The last 2 aren’t worth worrying about.

You can’t sack Choco without telling the bloke, who is then free to tell anyone he wants. It’s actually better that he gets a farewell game (plus hopefully some farewell vfl final wins) than going quietly in October.

Don't think this is true at all.

I think that what Maldonboy38 was referring to was the “calm time” 2017-2023, 7 years of relatively positive media bliss.👍

Think we are remembering things differently.

2017 I think was relatively drama free. Honeymoon period for Goodwin I guess. Unless I've forgotten something

2018 we had the Mccartney/Goodwin feud

2019 we had the Goodwin/Jennings fallout and the preseason camp blow up.

2020 was the start of the turmoil behind the scenes between Goodwin and members of the board and murmurings of players being unsettled.

2021 we heard all about the trouble over that off-season, goodwin nearly being sacked the previous off-season and the AFL and clubs concern about his relationships with the players.

Basically most of the drama from 2022 onwards we aren't even allowed to talk about on here so I'll stop there.

I took the Cornes reporting on Chocco story as a good sign. If Morris knew you can bet he would have gone with it ASAP. The board and all key members of the club’s administration knew about Chocco. None of them told Morris.

I therefore deduced that a LOT of the recent leaks have been from player (and coach) agents and managers to Tom.

The good news is that Choco will see out his contract and finish up when the VFL finish the year and hopefully a good finals series.

Sorry KC I was totally invested in the team and coaching group throughout that period and didn’t involve myself in the minor theatric’s of normal clubland.😁👍

After Paul Guerra was announced as the new CEO, Garry Lyon, on 360, put up a graphic with 5 bullet points, which listed what Garry believed should be Guerra's priorities, upon taking the chair.

One of those points was; "Stop the Leaks". Why would Garry believe this?

LOL Not sure this will happen. I just heard a “leak” which has come Guerra himself.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
