Cam Bruce to Melbourne?

Buckley with a Cam Bruce succession plan? 😉

If we hire Daly as the coach maybe the Ashcroft boys and Logan morris can come as a bonus

Excellent. Now take note of who Graham Wright is lining up as coach in waiting at Carlton and nab one of them as the senior coach and away we go

Gets my vote.

Chappy, though?

Bruce has been huge for Brisbane over the last couple of years.

Melbourne connection aside, this would be a fantastic acquisition.

I reckon he'd be a great addition, hope it comes to fruititon.

What role is Cam Bruce playing at Brissie?

Would Bruce want to be at a club with a Guerra ??

A friend was just wondering 🤔 🙄 ...

excellent

i was hoping he would be keen for a senior role but i suspect this gets him back to the city of melbourne before a coaching role becomes available end of 2026 (e.g. carlton, potentially north, mebbe a succession plan at the aints or the peptides)

would be a great get, similar to when we hired Yze

not sure he'd want to play second fiddle though. i thought he wanted to be a senior coach

I'm a big fan of Bruce but it does seem odd to be hiring an assistant coach before the senior coach is locked in.

O

It does seem odd, unless you assume that the senior coach has already been asked this question . One would normally think that all the assistants come in with the new coach. Or at the very least they have some say or interview existing staff. I am thinking conspiracy theory here, the decision was made some time ago on who might be the new bloke, only needed the right time to tap goody on the shoulder. If he stuffed up I guess.

But you cannot say that out loud, just think it.

Usually the Senior Coach get their pick of the litter when it comes to their assistants. Maybe one or two blokes are left over with contracts to carry over. Not seen a team hire assitants before the new senior coach is announced.

I would not be at all surprised to learn that we're all just watching a pantomime selection process when the decision was really made weeks ago though. As silly as that would be.

What if ..... what if the interview process isn't about the Coach ? ( well head coach per se )

Lots of other positions to fill. So why not do it in plain sight, behind doors, as it were.

Move along, nothing to see, well not what you're all thinking .....

Daly and Bruce as a combo?

Cam is a different kettle of fish, he comes from successful organisations and has build a good foundation of skills outside of the Melbourne way, it is this reason I think Nathan Jones should be moved on after this year (plus he is the under performing midfield/stoppage coach), having lost 75% of all the games he played at the club, go learn your craft at other successful organisations and potentially come back one day. The last thing we need is the boys' club raring it's head again, which it looks like it is already underway. Cam has the added benefit of doing his apprenticeship under Clarkson & now Fagan.

Mm, how can we recruit assistants with no senior coach?

I guess if we wait a month all the top assistants would be gone

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
