So Hinkley, Horse, Simpson, Bruce, Enright and Daly have all said NO.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm not sure there would be that many declining at any other club.

We've become somewhat of a poisoned chalice to potential coaches.

If they already had Bucks or someone lined up (which i personally doubt), why would so many rule themselves out a month before any announcement? Why not just say nothing?

I think you are wrong.

Hinkley Longmire Simpson and daly all have valid but varying reasons to avoid a senior role right now.

Hinkley too soon after Port and will look for a cushy job for a while

Same with Longmire - key exec role at swans. he's a Sydney resident long term IMO

Simpson burnt at Eagles and will never coach again anyway

Day has a Lions agenda - very professional attitude

Enright ensconced at Saints on the rise under Ross will habe a better CV for going back to cats

Bruce- no idea.

A coach desperate for a flag? Oh no!

I personally rather a coach desperate for wooden spoons 🙄

You never know if someone is the man until they've proven it themselves. Daly is very highly regarded at Brisbane and by Premiership coaches Hardwick and Macrae who both tried to pry him out of the Lions to no avail. For mine the only thing Buckley's desperate for is a Premiership for Buckley. He may well work out but my fear remains, he's an ego driven bloke who I don't see giving this job the next 8-10 years of his life. He's the safe choice, a very Melbourne thing to do. Of course these are just my thoughts and in truth I know very little about any of the coaching options.

Mark Neeld was a good choice according to Mick Malthouse...

Fagan saying Daly is excellent means nothing IMO. Has has been mentioned, think David Noble as well. It's hit and miss.

Neeld was given a poison pill at the time. The players ran the club; it wasn't until Jackson and Pert came in that it changed, not saying he would have succeeded, but it was made hard for him.

I personally get anxious when anyone commits to anything so i am hoping for a coach who is neither here nor there on whether the team actually wins games and instead prioritizes the players having fun and being good sports.

The waiting is killing me slowly.. Just Get On With It !

Even better if a good guitarist and a liking of hot chocolate and marshmallows 😋 😉

If that is the case then he made it even harder for himself.

It's not a decision we should be rushing. We have to get it right.

I get nervous when its seemingly a walk-up start for Buckley now that most resting senior coaches with experience have averted their eyes when asked, and the recognised potential assistants are reluctant to put there hand up, being comfy in their status quo.

Doesn't say a lot about our club, or does it say everything? 😏

❤️💙

Really? Not for mine. Long remember a Neeld presser after a flogging. The twitching left eye as he said "he wasn't going to cop it".

He had no idea. Ask Viney what he thinks. His first year was with Neeld coach.

I actually think that Buckley is not the safe choice. It would be safer to pick an unknown. There's more expectation on picking someone like Buckley as opposed to an untried assistant. His standing in the football world, senior coaching experience and media presence puts him front and centre for criticism.

I'm on the fence where it comes to Buckley's appointment, but he has been reflective enough of his shortcomings as a senior coach. Let's say he is driven instead of egotistical and it gives us a totally different perspective.

I'm somewhat disappointed that Enright has withdrawn from the race but that is based on my own knowledge of him as a player and the media reports of him as an assistant coach.

I personally just couldn’t care less who’s our next coach, as long as they get the absolute best out of whatever our list looks like.

Only if players are happy will we get the best out of them.

If that’s Buckley, great. If that’s someone else. Great.

Bring on success and bring it back fast.

Coach sure get Bucks, but who ever it is MAKE SURE OUR FOOTBALL DEPARTMENT AND ALL THE PRESIDENTS AND CHIEFS AND PEOPLE BEHIND THE PEOPLE ARE IN PLACE AND SOLID!!

Oh, sort out Caulfield too plz.

Hope for Giansircusa’s sake how he played has zero reeflection on how he coaches because he was, to be polite, an outside outside player

Could be urgued Thats exactly the type of coach we need.

I generally stay away from these topics but I see Buckley as being so much better prepared this time around. 10 years of experience at Collingwood including 5 years of finals, three consecutive from 18-20 (GF, Prelim and semi), finished up half way through 21. Had Nick Daicos been born four years earlier, Buckley is at least a one time, and quite possibly two time premiership coach. If you go back and look at the team that took the field for Collingwood in 2018 it's a miracle they got as close to WCE as they did. His analysis is impressive and he has a gravitas in the footy community that we really need. Gawn has been a great front man but ideally the coach does that job. Buckley is a media heavyweight. I think he will reinvigorate Petracca and Oliver and should he be appointed I expect both will stay.

Not a Buckley fan, but the standards he sets will be high. Players will be hard fit.

Chris Scott had basically only done a three year stint at a mediocre Freo before the Cats brought him in.

People in the know will tell you the success Harvey had at Freo was very much down to Chris Scott

Jose Mourinho now up for grabs. Our Monday flush runs would go to another level.

You’ll find yourself on the coaching team with that attitude!!

Quick one - you don't have King on this list. So out of Gia and Montgomery for the 6th spot if we take a combo of Dannyz and news stories...? Well done though :)

I’m not entirely sure that King isn’t part of the process but I know the club were particularly enthused and interested in how Kelly had presented. Think McRae. It was different, it was positive.

King has worked under Bevo, Chris Scott and coached his own team for a few weeks. To me he looked a brilliant candidate but there is something about Kelly.

It is difficult for me to advocate for any of the candidates based on any sort of history or criteria. Can we really say for certain what they are bringing to the table?

Simpson was quite enlightening talking about his process to becoming the WCE coach. He said that every club had this and that and that he focused on the 10% difference that he could bring to the club, LEADERSHIP.

We all want a coach that can make the best of our list. Wether that is a coach with senior coaching experience or an well credentialed assistant.

Edit: Some grammar.

And what would Viney know about it as a first-year player? There were rumors all over the place about players canceling 2k runs because it was too hot under Bailey, players running the show. We were a circus. Like I said, he might not have succeeded, but it didn't make it any easier for him; the club was in a mess.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
