no. have some class and wait until the players know.

That's exactly what the board should have done. Pathetic by them.

This place is toxic. Thousands and thousands of posts on sacking Goodwin, gets sacked, and in response thousands of posts on how much of a joke the club is.

The club can’t win. Maybe us supporters should be looking in the mirror a bit too.

Love you goody, thanks for some fantastic memories.

Enter Longmire please.

Been alive long? This is MFC and pretty much most of the humans.

Agree - no matter what the club needs to secure the new coach, address changes in the FD, deal with any players who want out and move on. Well done Goody for what you have achieved

Give it a rest. I thought he did well in the presser and don’t forget he is stepping up to help the club in his position. Show a bit of respect.

Those having a go about Casey should get a grip, do you really know think that the home base issue just happened over the last few years we have been a caravan club since we left the G we had our chances over certain periods of time now people think this will happen now caulfield will still be a few years away if it goes ahead so if you are complaining about Casey what do you suggest they do, borrow anywhere from one hundred million plus to build one we are where we are deal with it.

Talk about accepting mediocrity.

It’s been a problem for 40+ years. That’s an indictment on everyone who has ever been on the board of our club in that time.

We are exiting our most successful period of the last 60 years, and we ‘kinda, sorta, probably not’ have a plan for maybe doing something at Caulfield.

All boards for the next decade need to understand that they are solely responsible for finding us a home. If they aren’t doing that they are treading water and dragging the club backwards.

The fact we won a flag while working in the way we have is actually a massive accomplishment. Go look at what the Bulldogs or Geelong have as their training base. The gap is embarrassing, and it’s only the board and the administration who are to blame.

The fact Goodwin thinks we are close to contending again proves exactly why he needed to go.

I can’t recall since I was a fair bit younger.

How long will it take for the spot of Goodie to be filled?

Is there a rough timeline the club has discussed or stated in the press conference?

Goody's relationship with our senior players is very special and was both a positive and a negative thing in the end.

Also lol at this drive by around the Casey facilities.

I suspect it was a drive by of pert who yes was CEO when we won the flag but as good notes that followed a period of stabilty when PJ and Mahoney were in charge.

The implication being Per didn't bring stability - and nor did he deliver a home base, something he made central to his vision from the get go (and then stepped down but remained in a project management role to deliver the home base - which he has again failed to land).

Sliding door moment when the board rejected PJs advice to go with a succession plan involving Mahoney becoming CEO and instead went witn Pert whose ladt few years as CEO of the pies were fractious.

How the club and the board have gone about this is so poor. Right decision, [censored] execution and [censored] timing

The thing is KTR there is no easy way to sack the boss, I am almost 80 and I have never seen a happy sacking. Goody like him or hate him has been the boss of our footy team since Paul Roos handed him the baton. I did like the way that Simon mentioned Peter Jackson and Josh Mahoney set our club up for a stable future, which made all this possible. No point being angry with the Board the President even Simon, now is the time to move forward and pray that we can source decent replacements for our current FD.😁👍

No specific time frame

Will depend on who they look at , who puts hand up, what commitments are accordingly etc etc.

As long as incoming isn't currently at Sydney they could probably start pretty quickly 😉

Who knows but Neeld to Roos was just less than 3 months although the CEO had already started and was PJ.

We would definitely hope to have someone in place before the trade/draft period.

You need a senior coach to be involved in list management.

Wow Wee.
Just heard the news.
Gotta say it feels surreal.
My 1st thought when I saw the headline on You-Tube was "Ah .... Clickbait."
Loved that he delivered a flag.
Hated that he bored me to tears since.

Win or lose I look forward to abit more excitement around the club .... And hopefully the gameplan.
Onward and upward.
Go the Demons.

Bit the same bro, he never I spired me, maybe the players got bored too??

Presser did not indicate a mutual agreement departure...

Very uncomfortable viewing at times, felt for Goody. I believe he loves the club and feels we are headed in the right direction (whether you or I agree in full/part/not at all), and handled himself extremely well in the circumstances. Which is not surprising given his cool, calm (sometimes frustratingly so) manner following games.

As much as I’d like to think that it does…I don’t think it works that way.

I mean more so jump in, get a good direction and show where we heading as a club and team

Disgraceful move by a rudderless board.

The time for this decision was in three weeks.

I had lost faith in Goody to turn the ship, but was prepared for whatever decision the club made.

That decision should have happened at the end of the season.

I have absolutely no faith in this board or admin to make the right decision. They can't even oversee a FD review properly or ask a CEO his start date before appointing him. Amateur hour.

Thank you, Goody for a decade of great service to our club. Despite the lows last year and this year, you have put our club back on the map, my family and I saw a flag we thought we'd never see under your reign and almost always, we've been competitive on field when you've been our coach. Good luck for the future.

As for our club, let's hope the board can accidentally get something right.

I think the timing is good, and believe what they say or not, Goodwin wanted to leave now and not see out the remainder. Three weeks head start potentially on Carlton. Thanks for all your work, Goody.

Out of curiosity, what is the main difference between now and in 3 weeks time.

How do you know he's wrong? Certainly he'd know way more than randoms on a website. The irony is if we crash and burn for a few years it could be argued Goody was clueless OR that the new coach is useless and Goody should have stayed. Similarly if we win the flag in 2027 suddenly Goody was right OR the board was right sacking Goody(!)

Let him coach out the last three weeks. If they were going to sack him, sack him weeks ago, but instead they've waited until 3 games. It's ridiculous. They tell the players nothing. And then it comes out in the press.

From my perspective we have a head start on rejuvenating the coaching/fd . We hopefully have something in place before trade/draft.

To do that means moving now.

So be it.

From memory the Clubs values mention the words. Trust, Respect, Unity & Excellence.

Values if they mean anything get tested and assessed in difficult times particularly when decisions affect people.

Are they lived values or merely motherhood statements? .

Maybe, but has Trust, Respect, Unity & Excellence been prevalent since 2021?

I'd be surprised if it was leaked from the board.

Could have very easily been Goody himself who leaked it out? Maybe even accidentally.

His family would be aware straight away obviously, then it wouldn't take a great deal from then on.

Also, Gawn knew from 7.30am this morning. He might have messaged a few mates and then its basically out and about in the world. Bad news travels incredibly fast.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
