Yes. It's amazing how many people have said 'it is inexplicable' meaning that as a critism of the club rather than an acknowledgment of their own lack of information.

There are of course good arguments for playing more new players, but there might be several other players who should be 'rested' before resting a slightly injured Viney (depending on which new player is brought in and other factors).

Your sample size is statistically insignificant, I can present a similarly statistically insignificant sample -

I know an Olympic gold medal winner - kids friends at school, we socialise a bit, have them over etc - super super lovely person.

People are gonna people

We digress. I wouldnt want my grandchildren playing professional AFL.

what if Goodwin is trying to lose this so we sack him and he gets his 1M. Takes a year off, feet up, no stress, happy days!!

Maybe he is going to pump the lot on the Eagles at $9.50

I know how to ensure a dees win, slap a fitty on the Eagles...

Goodwin picks his mates knowing that of course they will justify selection with stellar games vs WAFL Magoos. This is ALL about Goodwin keeping his job!

You donโ€™t have to agree with peopleโ€™s want for a change in coach, but how anyone can defend an injured player being selected for a dead rubber match - while there are many players at Casey and even in the AFL who could cover his role - is beyond me

Hashtag parapraxis ๐Ÿ˜ This shouldnโ€™t have anything to do with who the coach is but clearly it does.

No matter who is coaching a team, and where that team is on the ladder, do you think club doctors would allow a player to play with an injury if there was any risk of the injury being compounded? Thatโ€™s not just stupidity, itโ€™s a dereliction of duty.

This is the crux of it for me. It has nothing to do with medical negligence.

We shouldn't need excuses to try new players and configurations at 6 and 13, and after an astonishingly bad previous two weeks. But if we DO need to find reasons for change, a bone fracture seems like a decent one.

He's coaching for his job, not the best interests of the club. See the Petty selection last (and this) week.

Itโ€™s not about whether they technically โ€œcanโ€ play on a medical level - no one is doubting that

Itโ€™s about the club - including the coach - refusing to use an opportunity like this to rest the effected player, to give other players an opportunity to play at AFL level and to try different set ups that might, I donโ€™t know, actually result in us becoming better team

Because apparently weโ€™re trying to become a better teamโ€ฆ by doing mostly the same thing each weekโ€ฆ with mostly the same playersโ€ฆ even if theyโ€™re sick and injured ๐Ÿ™ƒ

Oh goodness - the Viney selection.

But what does that achieved then if he's playing through pain in an absolute dead rubber match.

Considering this club has a long history of mismanaged player injuries, this just make completely no sense whatsoever and just another reason why the whole footy department needs a massive overhaul.

Put him on ice for the year and get surgery done if he has too. Play Rivers, Laurie or even Langford for instance in that role for the next 4 weeks. Great time to start transitioning Langford in there as an inside mid and gain some valuable experience.

I'm still so angry I feel like barracking for WC.. (I know see a Dr)

I agree, other players should be given a go, and Jackโ€™s injury is an opportunity for such.

What I take issue with, and what my point is, the folks disparaging our medical staff as though they know more than them.

Our doctors and physios and trainers deserve to be respected and appreciated. If we had the injury list length of some clubs everyone would be sinking the boots in.

I agree - our doctors and physios have done a great job keeping us healthy this year and they deserve respect and credit for that

And if people are doubting them then thatโ€™s a different story, but I donโ€™t think this should be conflated with people genuinely having concerns about our selections regardless of if any particular player has been medically cleared to play

I have no doubt that Viney got the all clear to play without risk of further damage, but I am not sure thatโ€™s the point.

This is a perfect opportunity to give Viney a week off and play someone like Laurie who has worked so hard for so long at Casey.

What is his motivation to keep fronting up, when in a dead rubber against a rubbish opponent we choose to play a guy carrying an injury over him?

Iโ€™m not one to stick the boot in, but itโ€™s a fair question to ask of a club that keeps talking about change and progress and not wasting opportunities.

But that was MY point. I was posting purely in response to people suggesting Jack ought not play because his injury may be exacerbated.

As for the rest of it, I agree this would be a great opportunity to give someone else a go.

Got upgraded tickets on centre wing level 2 for $18. Couldn't pass that up. Was. Scared they would shut level 3 and I'd be stuck at ground level. Taking friends that have never been to a game before so wanted an elevated view

Mmmm dunno, the other poster said he lived next door to multiple sports women that were jerks to your 1 non-[censored].

Was this Olympian a man or a woman also? Because if itโ€™s a man, itโ€™s only strengthening the case that all sports women are up themselves.

Iโ€™ll err on the side of the majority sample pool for now and just assume all sports women are jerks. Itโ€™s the only logical inference I can make out of this data set.

Letโ€™s wait and see how it transpires, if heโ€™s fit to play he plays. Just deal with the pain

Thereโ€™s no such thing as a dead rubber, certainly not on Demonland

Thereโ€™s a very strong PhD there

Viney just playing to beat his dads games record so he can stick it to him

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasnโ€™t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's ย six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his teamโ€™s unfulfilled potential rang true โ€ฆ well, almost.ย
