With the season nearly done and some players struggling for form in their current position would it not hurt to trail some players in different positions, even during the game , who knows it could pay off and help win the game.

Players i would like to see potentially tried in different positions at different stages are

JVR CHB

Windsor RR / forward

Tholstrup HB / mid

Howes. HF

Laurie. SF

May. FF. During a game if being beaten at FB

Langford. CHF

Thoughts ?

There’ll be no experimenting because Goodwin is trying to save his job. He needs wins. It’s why Oliver Petracca Viney and Pickett were the only midfield rotations (appallingly) last week. Grim

I'd love to see Windsor play wing, reckon he could be good there...

Goodwin rarely does that and I highly doubt he would start now, but if he does its usually the same key back and forwards swapping and taking a player and throwing them to BHF and wasting a year of their career.

We might see a few centre bounce changes vs West Coast but it wont be many.

I’m afraid you’ll have to wait until 2027 for any of those positional changes

Absolutely Steven May at ff. He's playing angry because he's constantly playing stopper. I would doubt that Simon would entertain anything so out of the box.

If we didnt even experiment with a guy that was was bed ridden all week with the flu then you'll never see any experimentation from a coach that is one of the most stubborn in the league.

And we need to have a look at Adams, Brown, Culley and Woewodin before year end. I've seen enough of Laurie and Kentfield needs another pre season, but the others should be given a chance to play for their careers.

No point bringing in guys like Spargo or Sparrow to get 10 touches a week, when other players might offer something different.

Of course, none of this will ever happen.

Interesting that on Saturday night, Bowey, who was having another really solid game, was swung into the forward line.

Like you @zoe1617, I'd love to see Langford spend more time in the forward line, although his overhead marking, which seemed like such a weapon in his under 18 footage, has been a touch underwhelming so far. I think Howes forward or an a wing would be well worth a try as well.

Not so keen on May forward and JVR back. Now the season is well and truly over, I'd like to see the FD start thinking about what the team might look like in coming years and try combinations they expect to become fixtures:

Tall defenders: Turner, Petty, Adams.

Centre bounce midfielders: Langford, Pickett, Rivers.

Tall forwards: (way less certain, but...) Jefferson, JVR, Kentfield.

This is my thinking too, although I think we could get another year or 2 out of May as a forward, especially as he's most likely to take the biggest/best key defender and relegate JVR/Jeffo/Kentfield et al. down the list of defenders.

It's a really fair point. He's been an exceptional one-on-one footballer. I like it in theory. I just wonder if he's got much left in practice. Those hamstrings seem like they're one small over-extension from evaporation.

I'd take Viney out of the midfield, probably permanently. Release Windsor and/or Lindsay further up the ground by placing him across the half back line if we think he's a good enough distributor of the ball. Otherwise, he plays a defensive forward role.

Liked what i saw of Windsor on ball before he did his hamstring, the longer the game went , the more he started improving , was a big loss when he did his hammy late in game.

He should imv absolutely be trained and played as an on baller next year

If he can bulk up a bit and improve his tank and with more experience going through the middle imv has huge potential of becoming a serious a grade onballer

May and Kentfield into the forward line this week. May to take the best key back which will help Kentfield, JVR and one of Howes/Turner/Adams (like to see how they all go up forward I'm sick of Petty being the only swingman).

You'd want him to improve his kicking by a significant level. This year he has the 2nd worst kicking efficiency of any defender in the afl with more than 15 games. (Liam baker is worse)

He is 5th worst in our team (usual suspects bottom four). But while he is statistically 'better', if you account for his possesssiona being mainly uncontested he is arguably dead last as a kick in our team.. (Last year he was also bottom 6.)

Sure, its ok to put this down to inexperience for a period of time, some player need time and also decent presasons but if if this doesnt improve dramatically in the next 25 games no way should we just hope he 'comes good'. Id much rather have consistent accurate kicks langford salem chandler bowey and lindsay getting the bulk of our possessions. We cant just replace slow ball butchers with fast ball butchers.

I think the prospect of a win vs either the hawks or pies will do more for us in terms of galvanising our belief that we are still a half decent list (which may help retain a few players we want to keep that are on the fence about their future with the club) than shifting magnets arbitrarily will do. I don’t see what playing pin the tail on the donkey with the team sheet really does for us with 2 games left against contenders eyeing a flag. Getting flogged by either of these teams due to playing blokes out of their position will only compound any retention issues we may have in the rank and file right now. We have had a shocking year, let’s mot make it worse?

Play our best team in their normal positions and focus on winning one of these next two games please. It’s been a really rough year, as a supporter it would be nice to go out on a high like that.
