Iโ€™m sick to death of us being stitched up by the umpires against those [censored]. We should have done enough ourselves to get over the line and shot ourselves in the foot with repetitive simple skill errors. But that last 2 minutes from the umpires was a disgrace. Instead of a forward 50 entry and potential shot on goal from a holding the ball free kick which isnโ€™t paid to Clarry, they give a ticky touchwood free kick to Curnow for something Iโ€™m sure Max and our on ballers have to put up with 100 times in a game. To follow it up Max gets ran through and punched in the head in a marking contest, has blood streaming out of his forehead, no free kick. Absolutely Fuming.

THE CLUB WILL NOT SAY ANYTHING BECAUSE IT IS USELESS

until you start withholding your memberships and demanding a forthright club nothing will change

I wonโ€™t, until it does

They are bloody timid. I hate it. No money until they man up

Iโ€™m with youโ€ฆ but Salem? He was ok tonight. Heโ€™s had solid games this year.

Salem is like your grandfather after Xmas lunch all too slow and wanting to have a sleep on the couch as the day goes on.

We win that game if that holding the ball is payed.

Change my mind.

We also win if we kick straight. Or if we hit targets. Letโ€™s focus on how we can improve, not one umpiring decision.

If we require an umpiring decision to get wins, then we are clearly not good enough.

Ok, so you're one of them.

That game full of errors got us very close to winning, but what changed to stop us from doing so? Have a little think now for a change and you'll work it out.

If Goodwin goes we'll spend 10 years at the bottom. Is that what you want?

Or we could get a new coach, new skills coach and develop the talent we have and challenge for a flag. What a revelation

The one part of the AFL that is lagging behind sporting codes around the world like the EPL or NBA, is that we hold onto coaches a year or two longer than we should.

Owners and GM's over there are prepared to make the tough calls because they will not accept a protracted period of mediocrity. 2 years of failure after the highest of success and you're done. For some reason, AFL clubs need to see 3, 4 or even 5 seasons of poor performances before it's over. Holding on too long with the hope that it will turn around. I wonder who will be coaching us in 2027 eh.

I felt when May did what he did it turned things. I felt may was just not in it most of the game.

He gave up goals to curnow in the first half & fumbled.

But again it's a game where we won the inside 50, had more scoring shots yet again lost.

We were coming home in that final term yet couldn't capitalise.

It's just getting frustrating

Ah, so you can have a great coach and yet the team can still be losing matches depending on the players/list.

You're just saying what I'm saying.

Glad to see we're in agreement.

Blame the umpires but turn a complete blind eye to the deplorable skill level from our players on show tonight.

If you're blaming our loss purely on umpire, then you simply have problems yourself.

No DD, our players (with their deplorable skills) got us close enough to win that game tonight. 1 thing stopped them. Don't be 1 of 'them'! Agreed our skills need work, but that's not why we lost. You're better than that!

So sick of alleged supporters bagging our players when they've clearly been stitched up. Or are you turning a blind eye to the umpiring? And why? Look at the stats. You'd be happy with your team's effort with those numbers, no? Which stat won the game? Think long and hard!

Exactly. Have any of these morons calling for the coaches head seen the stats? Did they actually watch the game? That was appalling umpiring.

Yes the umpiring was bad. The only thing worse was our ball movement and structural positioning. We didn't lose because of the umpires, we lost because we are a rudderless club. Starts with the coach.

Yet me guess, you believe in the tooth fairy as well?

It's hard to beat the umpires but it's harder to beat an average side with below average execution.

There were some good signs from some of the younger guys. Pickett is a generational talent, Langford is phenomenal, JVR is presenting and marking again and Jefferson dropped a few easy ones, but clunked a few good ones and worked himself into the game. Let them run the year out and with another pre-season they can both go up a level.

Rivers and Langford need to be moved into the midfield, it seems like such an obvious move but it's clearly one that will not happen anytime soon, I think partly because Viney and Oliver lack positional versatility. Very strange that Petracca isn't playing in the forward line more with Pickett able to pick up the slack in the midfield.

Having said that, the list is better than what we're dishing up, so I understand why people are disappointed. We need to upgrade Salem to kicking coach because he's one of the few guys (alongside the 19 year old Langford) who can consistently hit that 20 metre kick and the game is heading towards if you can't do that, you're going to struggle to win games.

Like this BTF. I think Viney is now a major concern. I really don't know, but could you play him down back? It'd perhaps give more opportunities to our outside mids.

And all the players that rightly love Goody leave. Full rebuild, with Tassie coming in. Maybe we could get this Neeld bloke hey.

It's the dumbest idea since going to a Coldplay concert with your sidepiece.

Absolute rubbish!!!

Sure there were some dodgy calls by the umpires, but we were for the most part the victims of our own lack of attack on the ball, our own laziness, our own poor judgement and our own appalling skills!!

Will we lose Goodwin (itโ€™s got to be a distinct possibility, but who could replace him?), and will now see the likes of Fritsch and McVee being spruiked around other clubs because weโ€™ve left ourselves in a position where we have no currency when the trade (and draft) periods roll around?

To turn on this kind of [censored] at this point of the season, does not fill me with any confidence for the futureโ€ฆ the most basic of skills (??!!??) seem to have been lost!! Canโ€™t take a chest mark, canโ€™t kick a ball at a reachable height when either bombing it in, or trying a short pass, and hand passes that have the intended target reaching down and forward giving them no opportunity to do anything useful with the ball because they are so off balance (same goes for those short kicks I just mentioned)!!

Iโ€™m so [censored] off because Iโ€™m now having to resign myself to the fact that thereโ€™s a very distinct possibility that I might not ever get to see us play finals again!!

[censored] them!! Seriouslyโ€ฆ [censored] them and their sorry attempts to look like a football team.

Thereโ€ฆ itโ€™s good to get that off my chest.

So you want to compare our list with North's then and you think it's comparable, and then let's compare the the two clubs then shall we, from when clarkson got there and Goodwin from 22 it's been downhill since.

Not quite as dumb as keeping a coach of an underperforming team just because the players โ€œlove himโ€. Surely you are joking ๐Ÿ˜‚

Tholstrup is no good. Someone on here tell me what his strength is?

If I was Laurie or Woewoden, Iโ€™d be on the phone to my manager asking who is interested.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, weโ€™ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: โ€œThen came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.โ€ Today, weโ€™re back in the same place although oneย difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, โ€œIt was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, โ€ฆโ€ย  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
