The Cooper Harvey Thread

He was a gun today and would fit in beautifully in our forward line by the look of it. He is one a 1 year deal and hasn't signed for next year. I would try a Swans / Josh Kennedy and offer a couple of years and some confidence about being a regular.

He looked good today, long kick for a small, but he has spent most of the VFL season doing stuff all.

I suspect he's not someone we'd be interested in for a variety of reasons

Unfortunately for him he won't be opposed to Lever each week. Let's see how he goes against an opponent with some mobility.

the old played well against us, hes a gun trick. he did look good though. excellent kicking for goal.

Must be a reason North aren’t playing him, they’re hardly flush with players of that variety.

Dont mind your thinking though, we will need a good-finishing mid-sized type to replace Melksham come 2031 though.

think this is more an us lockdown issue rather than a Harvey coming of age situation

Agree with the sentiment, but need to look at players unable to break into good sides, not poor sides. Would rather Malcolm Rosas from the suns.

We have taken a couple who had trouble getting / staying in a good side the last couple ofyears

Fullarton and Sharp. Both VFL talents. There is a reason he doesn't yet have a contract with North. I suspect he is an average player who occasional has a good game when playing on a poorer opponent.

His stats look excellent for a 5 game player. What is remarkable for such an average height player is his 7 contested marks in his first 3 games. That is elite level. Must have some off field issues that are holding him back. For context Nathan Jones only took 28 contested marks in his 300 game career.

He definitely passed the initial eye test. Many don't. Seemed to have more upside than any of our small forwards bar Koz. He looked like a very early and very young Jamie Elliot. That is however the only game I have seen him play and the first time I have ever heard of him. So yes you can definitely get sucked in by that. Nothing seemed flukey or lucky though.

Clearly haven’t watched any of his other games.

Nope I haven't. Have you? What were the negatives?

He kicked three junk-time goals vs us and has played five games in three seasons, for the worst team of the last decade. But yeah, let’s offer him a multi-year deal.

As I said I had never heard of him and was impressed.

I looked up his 2025 because at his age that is what matters. he has only played 2 games and the one that I watched looked good. His small sample size stats for the year sort of lean towards what I saw. Anyway it was just an observation.

Cooper's game against us in Round 18 was excellent. He was one of North's best on that day. Currently out of contract, with North not guaranteeing him a contract and shopping him around. His other games showed he has development to come, but, if we can get him for silverware, he's worth it!

I’d be happy to have him on our list, we have a lot of spots to fill and too few draft picks. Two years on low money provided he ticks medical and Steven king vibe check.

He looks to be a good pick up for us , under Kingy he may flourish.

I fired up the DeLorean and looked at this thread 12 months after we traded for Cooper Harvey.

Here are some representative comments:

"Why did we trade for this list clogger?"

"He couldn't even get a game at North FFS"

"Another Tim Lamb disaster"

"Waste of a list spot"

Care to elaborate why?

Because other the him doing a Kent Kingsley on us he has done bugger all at AFL level.

People get sucked in by one performance and think his Allen Jakovich.

Been in the system for 3 years in one of the worse teams we have seen and he's struggled to break into the best 22.

I dont want another Harry Sharp thanks.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

  • REPORT: Richmond

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
