It’s easy. They pay minimal wages to players’, then get a third party to pay them astronomical sponsorship money where said player does SFA aside from the odd cameo appearance, all the while the club floods the home ground in sponsor products………..

Then these players are able to get their hands on land that ‘has just come on to the market’ or was a ‘private sale’ in enviable locations in the surf coast. Similar to COLA purposes, only this time its name is lifestyle.

I guess we need to take a close look at our sponsors and try and find a attractive businesses that can give start players under the table or cheap deals.

Real estate companies? Home builders?

Financial institutions?

that does make sense. id go as far as saying that if Geelong got exposed, they'd probably bring the whole league down with em.

What about a game of "who would have thought they are......"

Exactly so the problem isn't what they're doing, it's what we (may) not be doing.

Been my thoughts for years. Not going to beat them... so better them ;)

AFL just ignores its mates

WE have plenty of rich dudes and corporations backing us

Why can we do third party deals Are we just not smart enough?

we actually don't in comparison with other clubs

jake niall's series of articles for ninefax about the heavy hitters and big money movers and shakers at other clubs as well as ours was eye-opening - our supporters don't stay wealthy by giving away their money compared to the likes of peptides, the filth, or even footscray, let alone the baggers

I remember Balmey saying we were the poorest club with the richest members.

I don't buy that we can't compete with the Geelong lifestyle. We simply need to play to our strengths. Some players like city life, while others could easily set up on the Mornington Peninsula (e.g., I believe Jake Lever has done this, as has Max Gawn?)

Competing doesn't mean "doing the same thing". Obviously we can't compete with the farm life by offering farms. But there are things we and other clubs can do/offer that Geelong can't. Ditto for every club.

Though I will admit that if I were a footy player and didn't have a hatred for Geelong I'd probably want to set myself up at Torquay with a hobby farm and a new truck too.

Mornington Peninsula or beautiful Cranebourne where Police protection is never far away on the ground or in the Air

Don’t Forget Harley was Jeeelong Captain

The BS will continue….

was dillon visiting jeelong (rather than the reverse) last week because he wanted to check a hobby farm going at a great price?

‘There have been discrepancies’: Geelong ‘expecting’ sanction over third-party player payments

“Geelong have been adamant, from the word go, that there is no smoking gun here, that nothing untoward was going on at the Geelong Football Club in terms of any attempt to hide third party payments.

“The AFL accepts this, but there have been discrepancies, there have been lodgements that should have been noted that weren’t, and they will lead to several five-figure fines, whether they go beyond five figures, I can’t tell you.

BS ALERT!!! “We’re not saying that there was any cheating, that there was any attempt to cheat the salary cap,” Wilson said.

Only 5 figure fine? Typical afl

Imagine if they were tanking

I just saw a ZeroHanger headline saying they have a massive fine and went on there to find it's less than 100k and has no draft or trade sanctions. Pathetic. But we knew that would happen.

oh please, we know there was more and a deal was brokered behind the scenes. The Blues arguably never recovered from their sanctions during the Elliot days. Cant have that happen to the Cats now can we...

Oh look another reason to hate that [censored] club

30 rock hate GIF

Quite good that this news dropped during the busiest and fastest moving time of year for AFL media. There’s only 4,000 new stories coming out every hour so I expect this will receive the deep scrutiny it deserves for 45 mins before the next trade bombshell news is the dominant topic of discussion.

I am struggling to wrap my head around how the 2022 premiership could possibly be valid if they players are receiving incorrectly documented 3rd party payments.

Not sure a small vic club would get the same kindness

Surely someone with too much time on their hands could goal and do some investigations via land titles office records, etc. There will be connections somewhere. I’m sure the AFL could uncover if they want to, but they don’t

Fine is less than what it would have cost to investigate. We got sanctions because Brock McLean said he thought we were tanking on a footy show.

Geelong are a protected species. Makes me sick

That’s one of the first things I thought. Would love to know what the ‘discrepancies’ discovered amount too juxtaposed with the fines given.

If Geelong had an extra player on the field the penalty would be forcing them to wear an extra headband.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
