CLARRY IS NOT A TAGGER

Featured Replies

This was a disgrace, one of the most creative players of all time used as a Tagger!?? Can we please show whoever was responsible for this mind numbing decision the door!? Shocking player management yet again!

No, you are reducing one of our major extractors of the ball to a mere tagger! Nup not a snowflakes chance in hell. Shocking player utilisation IMV

Clarry himself.

I think there needs to be a breath taken with him taking a tagging role this week. For one we were missing Viney who has been our resident tagger recently (and it's helped him get into the game), secondly giving him a role gives him focus and we can always let him off the chains if we want to.

It's not permanent.

Sparrow the obvious tagger type!

Every time he’s been tagged he’s been absolutely slaughtered.

Clarry tag helped him provide a defensive midfield balance that we needed around the stoppage and Rivers, Pickett, Tracc feasted. Good coaching.

Beat me to it, we have tried Sparrow as a tagger and it's never worked. Clarry knows running patterns better than anybody and I think with him returning from his week off he wanted a role he could dive right into rather than "be the man".

That makes a lot of sense and playing a team role is a great way of (re)earning the respect of his teammates

If this is how we plan to use him then he simply must be traded. Its a monumental waste of cap space.

Goody said he thought Clarry did an outstanding job…

Haven’t you also been hypercritical of Clarry many many times for months? Now he’s suddenly back to being so incredible that he can’t tag in one game?

Usual clueless response from Picket.

I think a tagging role is great for Clarry this year. Give him a set job to focus on, whilst still working on his fitness

1 hour ago, whatwhat say what said:

2nd best job on necombe behind jj this season

so perhaps he is

I’ll take an average of 28 possessions and an ability to make 13 in a quarter and completely ice the game.

Yeh… let’s drive a mustang around a go go kart track.

I don’t think it would be actually well not the whole year.

IF he is not fit. I’d give 2-3 extra training blocks to improve his fitness for next year.

If he is FIT then we are in strife.

Sadly I dont even know if Clarry knows who he is these days.

I'm glad people on here aren't our coaches. First time tagging ? and by the coaches comments did an outstanding job. Bit like everyone saying Windsor is not a half back ( based on 1 or 2 games) and was outstanding down back today. Chandler is not a half forward, one of our best this year.

Goodwin said he 'blinked' last year when we got injuries and went back to the defensive approach but will stay the course this time. Around the ground i thought we beat them for 3 quarters we just did not finish. simple as that.

and now people just pluck any silly reason out of their hat.

Clarry hasn’t been a Mustang for a long time…

He’s definitely not fit for 4 Quarters in the guts.

Yes i agree extra training blocks, but i doubt it will happen

It’s certainly a big problem

We have had no key forward target it was just so noticeable.

Petty and Melk were too big a holes to fill today, JVR and Jeffo not up to it at the moment.

Jefferson needs times and JVR's confidence is shot to bits.

We had our chances to be 5-6 goals up at 3qtr time but chit the bed big time.

Umpiring was an absolute disgrace in the 2nd and 3qtr when we were completely on top.

Dropped heads massively in the last with the simplicity of their first 2 goals of the last after we registered 2 behinds with more misses.

Game, set and match.

Have tried to tolerate Goodwin's press conference cliches and absurdities. 'From an inefficiency perspective' was a new one this week. Can someone teach the bloke to talk directly? But, re Oliver tagging, him proudly announcing that we have now have not one, but TWO taggers, in the team did my head in.

Desolation Row. How about a couple of goalkickers? His press conferences are a mirror of the way the team plays.

Correct on every level, Goodwin could make a massive Trainwreck sound like a small, siding issue with Thomas the Tank engine!

@Demonland I thought Sparrow would tag Newcomb in absence of Viney. Surprised to see Oliver tag but I think he did ok. Restricted Newcomb’s influence at the contest. Whilst Clarry only got 13 disposals, Newcomb had his lowest disposals count (13) but importantly his lowest metres gained (198, a season low). Newcomb usually has a high kick to handball ratio but yesterday was restricted and under pressure, with 7 kicks & 12 handballs (includes 6 throws).

I hope Clarry returns to a “more see ball get ball role” (and works more on his decisions and effective disposal) , but don’t question yesterdays role in JV7 absence.

I agree, Clarry has always been a see ball get ball player with great vision to bring outside runners into the game.

He was up there with the Bont & better than Cripps 3 years ago, how the mighty have fallen

He’s still a hell of a lot better than tagging spuds like Newcombe

Needs to be put on a really hard mid season training program & another pre season & hopefully will be back🤞

Press conferences are a requirement of the AFL & media partners, the idea for coaches is to get through them without actually giving any info out.
