Anyway I'll go to Casey to watch and you can expect an insightful report, stuff going to the G!

I’m totally bemused! I assume there’s some logic somewhere, but I’m just too stupid to see it staring me in the face.

Cmon people, you all winge & complain when no changes are made & been screaming about Fritsch & JVR, well guess what they’ve been dropped

On the plus side Casey's VFL team will feature JvR, Jefferson, Fritsch and Johnson (Rd 1 afl forward line).

The first 3 in particular I like for the senior team in the not too distant future, the more they play together the better.

a significant portion of our problem is in the midfield.

Not in comparison to what's going on up forward. In spite of everything we are getting it in there, but we're about the worst in the league for scores from I50's.

Sure, delivery isn't ideal, but even back in our heyday there was a LOT of bombing it in. It's just that we were then much much better at locking it in, either through marking or bringing the ball to ground and forcing a contest.

Great to see we’re dropping 205 games of experience and replacing them with 49—courtesy of three players who wouldn’t crack the 22 at most clubs this week. And two of the three are the wrong ones. If I’m JVR, I’m calling my manager tonight.

Sacking forwards imo glosses over the issue. We win enough of the ball but simply aren't damaging enough with it in transition nor in delivering inside 50. If Goodwin really wanted to make a statement he'd have dumped Viney and Sparrow.

Playing forward is literally the toughest gig on the field. Fritsch kicked like 50 goals with some of the worst delivery in the league each of the last two years.

I still don't think we're addressing the primary problem here. We're going to see a slight spark from players looking to prove themselves but unless there is a fundamental shift (or improvement) in the gameplan, cycling through forwards won't make a difference. This might end up like the GWS game where with 6 debutants we put up a fight against a contender but gee the Tigers and Yzevare going to be licking their lips.

This has made be super wary of Goodwin. And it suggests our forwards are the problem. If we don't improve our scoring then this could be another foot in the grave.

Van Rooyen and Fritsch out. Here we go boys and girls. Goody's gettin' serious.

That kinda says that our problems are all in the forward line, so let's blame them. No blame for the midfield for how they deliver into the forward 50.

You know what.. not such a bad outcome to have them playing together in the VFL. Guarantee easier opposition than AFL, build them up together, get them in form together, then bring them back to the AFL. Together.

Goodwin, for all his flaws, was at a hiding to nothing this week. What does he have to choose from? People crowing for change, got them, but call him crazy for selections.

Why? He has been absolutely hopeless this year. Out of position, dropping marks and cannot get himself into the game. Going to the 2's to get some confidence back will be good for him.

Who do you put in to the midfield instead..? There’s nothing there..

A statement was made, on players that we all acknowledge were out of form. At least the midfield will have something new to kick to, maybe it’s the spark.

I said earlier today, its hard to point the F50 connection issue.

Is it:

  1. Forwards failing to move and crowding the hot spot, which then causes midfielders to bomb it in long as they dont want to cause a turnover? OR

  2. Forwards seeing the midfielders always bombing it into the hot spot, so they dont move and rather crowd the hotspot

We heard Chaplin rip into the forwards last week and telling them to work harder so perhaps the current working theory is 1. If we see better movement and midfielders not honouring the short hit up, then I'd expect the axe swinging for them next week.

Casey forward line a dress rehearsal for ANZAC Eve? Fritta and Roo recalled, Jeffo called up?

Not sure I get McVee coming back through Casey, but Tholstrup straight in.

Are you serious? JVR has been garbage. Hot, garbage. Calling his manager? Go for it, he’ll probably get told to pull his head in and play better

Did we? Where?

Crazy Goody at his absolute best again.

Tholstrup back in after a long lay off.

Sparrows my tag last only one quarter on Merrett and then dish up an absolute ****ful performance with 5 disposal stays in (Another goody favourite)

Melskham.. past it. Stays in.

Dropping Fritsch after he shows form at least. Should have done it weeks ago.

I don't Goodin and his selection criteria anymore. Blokes lost the plot big time.

If anyone's interested, an article on the Simpson/Longmire AFL360 discussion re changing game style, players etc.

Oscar McDonald will be the 2nd ruck for Fremantle according to Justin Longmuir's press conference today. Interesting to see how Oscar plays

Omac's selection brought a football related smile to my face for the first time in weeks. Love it.

Seriously impressive effort to get back playing AFL footy after being delisted and copping not one, but two very serious, long term injuries.

Respect.

I’m expecting Fullarton to kick thirty-two goals and really turn this season around…

But seriously, congratulations to the fella. Not exactly the club-atmosphere he would have hoped for his debut, but may he have an enjoyable first time wearing the R&B.

Forget our ins and outs , the real selection story here is big bad bustling OMAC is in for Freo!! I forgot the guy even existed.

Put his brother on him pleeeeze Goody 🙏🏻

Look I hear you but this is better than leaving poor ol’ Roo alone as a tall in the forward line.

JVR stiff - our forward entries hardly encourage our fwds to lead. Fritsch dropped for Turner is a week too late. Fullarton also should have played last week. Let's play some guys with some evidence of form. Johnson should have been a consideration last week too. Goody says we are not going hard enough at it, not enough fight - AJ has a serious crack and unsettles his opponents, and does a fair job giving Max a chop out. I vowed I was not going to watch a team with Spargo in it - what is the ongoing love affair selectors have for Spargo - surely Laurie or Brown have more attributes? Come to think of it, I think I do! Spargs has the Coach, selectors and half his teams mates (those who keep kicking high balls to him when he has an opponent) hypnotised.

You do have to live in the real world though. We don’t have midfielders playing for casey ready to go. X and Langford have come in as rookies and are 22 locks.

Laurie Brown Billings Woey could come in for the sake of a statement but none really deserve a call up. Aside from Laurie arguably.

No one tries harder than Viney. Despite his terrible kicking he deserves a run over the above guys

  • WHAT’S NEXT? by The Oracle

What’s next for a beleagured Melbourne Football Club down in form and confidence, facing  intense criticism and disapproval over some underwhelming recent performances and in the midst of a four game losing streak? Why, it’s Adelaide which boasts the best percentage in the AFL and has won six of its last seven games. The Crows are hot and not only that, the game is at the Adelaide Oval; yet another away fixture and the third in a row at a venue outside of Victoria. One of the problems the Demons have these days is that they rarely have the luxury of true home ground advantage, something they have enjoyed just once since mid April.
