    Having read Binmans stats page I was surprised to see just how may inside 50's we have generated. We had more than geelong anf GWS yet still found a way to lose.

    If they were fair dinkum, Viney has to go to Casey. 15 touches for a mid and not one kick hit a target. Footy is brutal and overnight the game seems to have passed him by. I am not overly convinced salem is far behind. His kicking is still great but he looks slow. Sharp doesn't impress me and Spatgo needs a stretch of games at Casey to find form after his long injury layoff. What are they thinking bringing him in cold from 1 practise game and post concusiion protocol. They are 4 who I would rest

    Fullarton has proved he isn't a ruck but he may well be a forward. Verrel has been excellent the last 2 weeks when he had to cover the absence of Campbell after half time. Sestan, Brown & laurie all deserve consideration although Laurie has been tried so many times. One thing he does do is stick a tackle. Last night I couldn't believe the number of time the tackle was broken or the Cats player dished the ball of. Maybe lever is back.

    Forget all the [censored] about turnovers, pressure, midfield and defence. Most of that we are as good or bad as any other. It just shows up more because we can't score and the ball keeps coming back multiple times. At the start of the year I asked where our goals were going to come from and said we had to score 15 goals a lot of the time. But we struggle to kick 6. Turner will occasionally kick 2 and the same with JVR and Fritsch. Langford and Petracca are the only midfielders who kick goals. Kossie on ball robs us of small forward goals. None of the other smalls are going to kick multiple goals. Chandler is brilliant at pressure and getting up the ground, but will only kick multiple goals 1 in 5 games. JVR has concrete hands, and generally finishes up lying on the ground. Turner is just not tall enough for how he plays. We don't have a 200cm forward, and for the reason there is nothing else available, we need to see what jefferson (who has good hands and height) and Fullerton who has height, can do. Leave them there for a month to see if they develop. You can't have 18 marks(opposition) to 5marks (us) inside 50 and expect to get a different result each week with the same personnel. The season has gone so we need to see what we can develop. As much as I like Melksham and TMac there's just no point in playing them as the season is gone. Forget about winning games - it ain't going to happen. If we don't win another game which is on the cards we will finish up with picks 1,2 and 19 - so develop our younger players now. So with Windsor, Tholstrup, Lindsay, Langford and the 3 mentioned and Kalani White, you have 8 high draft picks as a core to build a side around.

    If the season finished today, our first pick would be 20, and that doesn't factor the pick sliding from academy and father-son players.

    Essendon holds our first round pick.

    There is no incentive for us to tank this year other than the development of young players.

    Geelong was much taller . It seems 198cm forwards are common place now so I hope both Fullerton and Verall make it

    The outs are fairly easy to pick ---- Sharp, Petty, JVR and Spargo spring instantly to mind.

    The ins are the problem. The only obvious major improvements would be Lever (if fit) for Petty, and Windsor (if fit).

    As for the rest, we have several good VFL performers (eg Laurie) who have never impressed when given a crack at AFL level. Turner's struggles last night provided a prime example.

    Given our apology for a forward line, maybe Fullarton is worth a try up there.

    I am getting the awful feeling that apart from one year of magic Goodwin is actually out of his depth as an AFL coach.

    Yeah, I like it and dont mind the Fullo, Jeffo combination for at least a month!

    Fullarton kicked five but he spilled an easy overhead mark on the outer wing that resulted in Geelong kicking the sealer to win the game. Like one or two others being suggested we'd only be promoting him to the seniors because the current incumbents are no good.

    When you have talent like Oliver, Rivers, Petracca, Bowey, Spargo, Petty, JVR, the list goes on, all playing below their best you’ve got an issue. I remained a little hopeful last week but last night we looked like a bottom 4 side trying not to get thrashed by a top 8 side. Geelong aren’t even that good ffs. We allowed Geelong 160 marks, that guarantees you a loss, we weren’t even trying to win, that’s inexcusable for mine.

    Pressure should be mounting on the senior team with the imminent return of Lindsay, Lever, Tholstrup and Jefferson from the injury list.

    Good to see Sestan and Fullarton get a bit of form in the VFL. Laurie has been consistently one of Casey's best players over the last 2 years but had a down week and doesn't look to be an improvement in our midfield. I'd probably have him in the team over Sharp though.

    Wouldn't mind Jefferson straight back in but can see him and Tholstrup getting VFL time first.

    I don't think at this stage Fullarton and Jefferson are the answer to our forward woes , however we need to send a message to our regular players who underperform. Fritsch,Spargo and Petty need to be dropped. Petty to play forward in the reserves as I feel that is a position that will benefit us eventually !!! . Pickett must only play forward. Rivers could possibly be sent back to the reseves as a mid. Sestan may fill his defensive roll. Adam or Tuner gets Petty's job back. Fullarton to play forward could play ruck for 20 percent. T.Mac forward pocket or is dropped.

    I thought Tmac was pretty decent, definitely trying and some good intercept marks. Would have him anyway over Petty right now

    Season is effectively over so what can we salvage.

    Not really sure but we need to play a second ruck and another small forward.

    Spargo needs to find form at Casey

    JVR can have a Casey break in favour of Jefferson but I think Jeffo needs a couple of weeks at Casey first.

    Play Lever and May selectively with a view to seeing a strong 2026.

    Most importantly work on the gameplan plus how to counter the strengths of other teams.

    Following Oscar P in the F1 is the one saving grace of 2025 because it won't be MFC

    He offers nothing defensively in the middle and I’d rather he have fun at Casey than be subjected to this slop. At least until we get more balance in the team. Great game last week, no influence after half time this week on the back up.

    If he plays more than about 10 games this year it won’t be development it will be just mindlessly playing.

    Wonder if anyone heard a bloke from Brisbane interviewed by Dwane Russell on Friday. He was super impressive and I assumed he was an ex well known player. Turns out he is chief of football or similiar and being talked of as a coach.

    Laurie would just the sub. Langford could stay as sub but I’m not too keen on him as sub when he could play a full game at Casey.

    I think we need to give Rivers a proper run on ball. Get Tracc on ball more. Work out if Clarry can turn disposals in to anything decent. And the right amount of Kossie, Viney and Sparrow.

    Plus more speed in the forward line. If that doesn’t work and there’s really nothing to salvage then I’d play Langford more.

      As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.

In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide.       There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

      I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.
