Staying quiet about terrible umpiring hasn't helped us. Last night was one of the most blatantly partisan displays I've witnessed for any team. Geelong couldn't get pinged for anything and we'd get pulled up for any and everything imaginable. It killed any momentum we were building in the 3rd quarter. And it gifted them at least 3 goals so we may as well protest because it can't get much worse. Its not why we lost, but it didn't make this game any more enjoyable anyway

For most of the players our effort was better for 3 quarters and showed a bit of pride. When we lowered eyes or looked inside we sometimes found better delivery and hit targets.

That gave me some hope. We ran it out well from defence a few times and played on quickly and decisively a few times. We also won some clearances.

In most of those positive passages after all that hard work (we always look laboured) somebody would then butcher a kick up high towards their clustered defenders.

Or as a variation we'd miss players in the open in favour of hitting it to a losing contest or a missed low percentage shot. Or sometimes inexplicably kick it straight to the opposition.

Such panic and agonisingly poor decision making saw them either control the ball down back or burn us on quick turnovers again.

The forwards didn't have a clue, didn't defend well, didn't lead, didn't mark, didn't make space, couldn't kick straight. Abysmal performance and this is down to lack of coaching.

Midfielders blasted away hard won possessions then everyone's racing backwards desperately trying to defend.

It's awful football. Exhausting to watch and certainly exhausting to play with no reward.

Repeat ad nauseum then run out of legs in the final quarter.

Nothing is where we want it to be SG. Nothing.

Ffs get rivers into the midfield, put Viney forward because he is a liability in the middle at the moment with his errant kicking.

Petty can go back to Adelaide that was the worst blunder ever not sending him there.

Fritsch just needs to be unselfish and team first. Apart from that I thought his game was alright. He had a dip but man his decision making is off

Jvr needs a run in the twos. Can’t mark to save himself atm.

Harry sharp you can run but you have no place in an afl team

bring in Lindsay, kynan brown jai culley. These boys give 110% every time they take the field.

All the best teams are playing in a system where they instinctively know where their team mates will be most of the time. In a tight scrimmage they know there will be receivers on the outside. The vibe i got last night was that players were trying too hard to play strategy football vs just play instinctive football. Most of the time they had NFI where to run, how to create space, and how to work for each other. It seriously looks like Goodwin is coaching the instincts & fun out of playing footy. Certainly from supporters POV.. it’s a VERY hard watch.

Looked to be a chance in the third until the umps stepped in to change the momentum.

But lacking key fwds and now apparently defenders.

Our lack of recruiting feds is really coming to bight us back.

More pain ahead.

Goody should jump now before he is pushed.

Won't make much difference but it might at least get us a couple of wins as coach changes usually do.

It's just hard to fathom why we handballed so much , so quickly ( like the ball was ticking) and often to the opposition.

Our kicking was just as bad.

And poor Max seemed a shadow of the guy that used to give Geelong players nightmares.

It is a given it’s very hard to win at Tax payers Park. They get all their frees going the opposition get 70%. That’s a given

We were close at the last break but had played inconsistent football.

But that last quarter Same as the previous games. Not fit enough not quick enough, we cannot kick to a player or position. And very few tackles stick, just not strong enough.

We play from behind too much. And we look too scared to take the game on or play on at once, in case they make a mistake.

Some of our players need help during the game and some not up the level required. What a pity, Did anyone smile last night and enjoy that game. I didn’t and I doubt the players did either

we are struggling to score 20 for a half ar the moment, that's the reality. We look like a VFL level team.

Lose against Richmond on Anzac eve and we are a chance to finish 0 - 23.

He drops marks continually and rarely leads. Jason Dunstall, who was a great forward, analysed JVR last night and was highly critical - no forward craft was the conclusion.

And for the ‘he is only young’ narrative, Sam Darcy has played only 21 games is a bit taller and is the same age and is becoming a great asset for his team. Who would you prefer JVR or Sam Darcy? No contest.

And, then there is the ‘at least he busts packs even if he cannot mark’ narrative. Last night, the opposition were smarter than us. JVR drops marks and Geelong scout the ‘busted pack’ and away it went again. So, in addition to not being able to mark our forward thrusts he actually sets the opposition up for their own forward thrusts. I counted several occasions where that happened last night.

There was another incident where the ball was in our forward pocket and there was a scrimmage and JVR was standing looking the other way with his hands on his back and then suddenly realised the man that was on him had the ball and away it went up the ground.

Conclusion: total liability and should be dropped. I do not believe he is up to AFL standard.

And the responsibility for continually playing him and Spargo and Fritsch etc who contribute nothing is on the senior coach.

That is why he should resign immediately.

This situation has been a long time coming - at least one and a half seasons. Since May 2024 we have won just 5 out of 19 games played. That is the performance of a bottom four team.

And the reasonable assessment is that despite all the hype about changing game plans etc, the team has steadily demonstrated an increasing level of incompetence. And our kicking is appalling now. Do players suddenly lose their ability to kick? Probably not. It is probably the fact they are so tied up in a plan that they cannot execute that they just let go.

Time for calmness.

Our defence used to pride itself in keeping opposition scores under 60 points. Now we can’t even score near that low number.

You know I honestly thought Rivers would go close to winning the B & F after I saw his preseason.

I understand with a new game plan implementation comes some confusion and cohesion issues, but that doesn’t include attempting to take a speccie like the one you try and take over your little bro in the backyard. The ball was 30 metres away for crying out loud. Some of the brain fades are gobsmacking.

But also - he’s right. Whilst tagging Holmes worked, leaving a spare defender was dumb from the outset and shouldn’t have continued.
