Thanks for the update, DemonKolt. little disappointed to hear our midfield will be basically the same this week, possibly with a few cameos from Sparrow and Pickett I suppose. Surely the last chance for Viney/Oliver/Petracca to have an impact before some more serious change happens.

Thanks for watching

If no AJ, does that mean JVR is back in the ruck?

I was fully against it after last year but maybe it's a way to help him find form.

Agree, i don't think it has been said yet but our stoppage work especially at centre bounces should be no different than what it was irrespective of game plan adopted. I know they are running through new personnel, but not sure that completely explains how we have fallen off a cliff here.

Laurie played midfield back end of last year. He did okay, but I think his pace is an issue there. I'd be more up for him playing half forward though.

Laurie played 2 games post bye not as sub (and only 1 as sub) last year and neither game was he over 25% cbas nor where they back to back games. Hard for a player to get into rhythm when they dont get a consistent run at the next level and are playing a completely different position when playing VFL.

Are you surprised? Goody has his favourites and his stubbornness around team changes is very well documented

Good onya mate, watch out for slitheras, daleks the yeti and Maxwell Smart. Bet gates are shut coz caaaryst dont want other clubs to see our game style and take notes!

Yeh that's right a game style consisting of practicing fumbles, turn-overs, finger pointing and a lot of walking down the field.

Yes close the gates we don't other clubs taking notes

Training finished at 11.30. A stock standard session with things of note

  • Lindsay did warm up drills then did running with Jefferson. I can see both of these two playing next week

  • Culley Spargo McVee and Tholstrup did full training including match sim. These guys must be only a week or two away

  • Lever didn’t train. May be resting for Captain’s run

  • Windsor and Bowey as main distributors off half back

  • Turner back in the A forward line, Johnson to the B. Expect this to be a selection change

  • Sharp might be omitted I think

  • Rivers is staying with the backline unit

  • As u would expect, plenty of focused drills on centre square drills. Expect to see the following in there on Friday night

    • Petracca

    • Oliver

    • Pickett

    • Viney

    • Langford

    • Sparrow

  • Langdon / Billings purely on the wings

I may be biased… but my god Tholstrup had mongrel and talent. He was roughing up Oliver and Viney with full encouragement by Goodwin to do so. Expect to see #19 and #12 as prime midfielders once we hit 2026

Rivers should stay back for the rest of his career and Langdon should stay on the wing period

Sparrow I have no ideas as to where he should play probably LRO

It's funny you should note that as there quite a lot of overlap between soccer and AFL in terms of tactics and method (i think AFL coaches are influenced by methods and tactics employed in soccer)

As an example, i asked Copilot this question:

In 100 words or less describe Arsenal's current tactical method.

Copilots' answer was:

Arsenal, under Mikel Arteta, employs a fluid tactical approach. They often use a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 formation, focusing on high pressing and quick transitions. The team emphasizes building from the back, with fullbacks like Zinchenko inverting to bolster midfield control.

Arteta's side adapts formations to exploit opponents' weaknesses, maintaining a high defensive line to support counter-pressing. This dynamic strategy aims to dominate possession and create numerical advantages in key areas.

Are you an Arsenal fan, or just interested in their tactics?

Both binny

They should give Laurie a game as a full time mid. Every time hes played for the dees it has been as a small forward which just isnt his natural position. He dominates as an inside mid at vfl level and has great disposal.

Would love to see him get a good run at the afl level

I agree

Needs an extended time in the midfield

Another player that the coach has given up on

So sounds like;

OUT: Johnson, Sharp

IN: Turner, Pickett

You would expect that if Lever is good to go then he would replace the player who was a late in for him last week, which was Howes.

I'd say Pickett, Windsor, Turner, Laurie, Spargo (with Lever a chance) all IN

1 hour ago, FTB said:

Oh and Windsor in for somebody..

I think that Lever and Disco will get a recall this week as well FTB as long as Rick has fully recovered.

Thanks DemonKolt and all posters, did you get inside DK?

So it’s safe to say Fullerton, Sestan, Kentfield and Verrall have their exit papers stamped.

What are you talking about? Fullarton maybe. Kentfield is still recovering from pneumonia and is back soon. Sestan beating trialled down back, could be gone maybe.

Which is just another reason why he should go! If Fritsch survives on his peeez poor efforts then the message is clear! Howes is not up to it Johnson same, Viney is on notice as well as a few others!

Cue the outrage when Fritsch doesn't get dropped

He is obviously playing poorly but had 15 touches and 8 score involvements. Better than the rest of the forwards

Obviously he is out of form and some of his efforts are poor but he not a chance to be dropped with so many worse performers

Yeah, Fritsch played the best of his 3 very ordinary games last week, so he should have the opportunity to build on that. We are a complely impotent side this year, so we need our proven goal kickers out there to help. And it's up to the senior coach to maximise each player's strengths.

I have a gut feel Lever misses again this week. You can usually get a feel from the injury report and the fact that he didn't train today...

Is there a mandate at the club that doesn't allow us to give Fullarton a senior game? Started the VFL season with 3 goals and 8 marks per game. And last year when we literally did not have a ruck available, he still wasn't selected.

Excellent report, thankyou. To clarify, when you say you could see Lindsay and Jefferson "playing next week" I assume you mean Round 5 rather than Round 4? Is that right?

Fullers came to us as a ready made player, I heard he crossed Goodies bad side last year over a difference and has his cards marked.

Sestan has been hanging off the back of the list for three years and will never replace Marty Ho.

Kentfield more of a recruiting blunder than anything else.

Verrall is a mystery man, a head scratcher.

I have my favourites too, they tend to be players that consistently get 30+ possessions, win B&F's, Norm Smiths, Coaches Awards and Premierships!

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
