There is a significant % of Melbourne Fans who are going hard at the club and playing group after 3 games.

It's a long season and writing off 50% of the playing list, wanting the coach sacked, and just generally potting the club so early in the season is a no win situation.

Hawks started last year slowly, unsure about their new game style. Lions were slow starters too.

I don't think we're a contender, and probably not even a finals team this year, but I see far more to gain out of supporting the team as they navigate a change in game style, rather than the constant hand wringing and sooking.

Couldn't believe the Muppet on the DeeBreif calling for Adam Simpson to be our coach before the seasons end. Similarly the amount of people wanting Viney and TMac to retire is disgusting.

Keen to hear others thoughts on this. Surely there are still a few of us willing to support the team

I’m not completely despondent. And have decided to go to the taxpayers stadium next Friday even, but I think the bigger picture here is how long we’ve been poor. And not just the gamestyle adjustment. It’s the body language, the deplorable skills, the fight.

But what gives me hope is the excellent young talent coming through. But almost have given up on Goody as the right guy. Will give him 2-3 more games.

the mood around me in the mcc on Saturday was very low, even early in the game.

Everyone seemingly Deemoralised

We were no good last year as well, and after an opportunity to bounce back hard after a disappointing performance against North we were pathetic again.

I really hope we can improve but I see us flatlining at best, and a number of teams have now gone well past us as well.

This has been brewing a lot longer than 3 games in 2025

We can’t score….

2.9 at Halftime

All that energy expended for so little reward

Exactly the same as the 2 Finals in 2023

our drop off since the back to back wins in adelaide vs the crom and the pear last year has been galling

we were top 4 and since then i think we've looked bottom four

i expected us to bounce back big time in 2025 but instead we look like the worst team in the competition

i don't think the sAcK tHe CoAcH!11!! cries make a lick of difference; he's under contract and it's not going to happen for the time being

i'm very disappointed with the performance of the players and the coaching department

they have the opportunity to turn it around; can they? i have my doubts

Yesterday the whole team fumbled and looked unsure about what to do with or without the ball. Clearly unsure about what this new game plan is.

Goal kicking aside, that's quite different that the 2023 finals series where we looked like a strong and confident team.

No this is just a rational reaction to what we've been witnessing for 3 years. Anyone who thinks we are anywhere near it needs to reasses.

Normally I’d agree being 3 rounds and all. I’m also realistic about our chances this year and playing finals was doubtful. The reality is we should have top 4 expectations with our list and age profile. But I had no idea how the players would turn up or how the game would be played. I was enthused by the pre season games and the GWS game, but I wasn’t completely sold on them. And the last 2 rounds has shown why I was suspect.

I expected teething issues and higher than normal turnovers as we adjusted. However, you cannot excuse the effort and endeavour. It’s embarrassingly short of what is AFL level. Watching teams that are drastically younger and don’t have any premiership experienced players in their 22 are showing more composure and desperation.

We look uninterested, uncompetitive and complacent. We shouldn’t have to put up with this [censored] as we were sold a vision that this type of irrelevance was a thing of the past. Well it ain’t and somebody needs to be held accountable.

I've already started going to games this year with no expectations and still hope we can turn things around enough to play finals but the last two weeks have been a truly awful watch and I've left early in both games.

We were still very ordinary in the forward line.

Nothing has changed

We are no where near the calibre of Hawthorn and Brisbane of last year.

Stupid comparisons really.

I believe Hawthorn were zip and three this time last year…….so I have a glimmer of hope, but just a glimmer, that we will still play finals this year

Going to put off taking the reality pill for as long as I can.

We aren’t near that calibre but I don’t think it’s stupid to say that when a team comes into a season with a new game plan they might look awful for awhile until things start to click. Which is what happened in both of those cases.

Brisbane were terrible and hawks were on the way for a wooden spoon

We've lost confidence - we've hardly won a game in 9 or 10 months. It's so hard to predict a lot of AFL stuff. We're not in the inner sanctum to know just how bad or temporary the current slump is. Eventually teams turn things around and maybe suddenly everything - many things - click again. But who knows? I do wish the harsher criticism would go away. It doesn't help and potentially makes things worse.

How are we going to implement a new gameplan which depends on proper skills execution when our skills are terrible.

The list was built on contest and defence. we've started adding better ball users through recent drafts but there are still too many poorly skilled players on the list

and our forward problems have been there for 3 years unremedied. thats on the coaches.

i sincerely hope I'm wrong but we ain't playing finals this year or any other until year without major surgery to this list and coaching team

The last 3 years including 2022 and 2023 when we finished top 4?

For supporters of a club that has been so disappointing historically speaking, we sometimes seem to really struggle to recognise how insanely difficult it is in this current era to sustain success while also trying to evolve a complex game plan and maintain a strong player list.

All I can say, I will be there in the coming weeks when only 20,000 of us come to a Sunday Arvo game.

Hopeful for our future with some of the bright young guns we have.

The club is the only constant, players and coaches come and go. It's just the nature of the sport.

Sorry guys but Melbourne FC is sitting well down the AFL Ladder for a reason. Even with the so-called return from injury of higher credentialed players, the team plays an outdated brand of football. I cannot see them going anywhere this year ... and yes, that's even after 3 games,

When I was at yesterday's game it struck me that our halftime scoreline was like what I grew up seeing at a Dublin GAA Match.

2 goals, 9 points. Gaelic football goals (under the bar) get three and over gets one point (and lately 2 from distance). We used to marvel at the 100 plus scores we'd see in compromise international rules or tv reports about AFL.

One of my kids under 9s team did better that the Demons full time score by half time today in their first friendly outing this season. And let's face it the kids game was a chaotic rabble.

The demons used to pride themselves on restricting other teams to 60 points or so. Yesterday we barely got there ourselves and Gold Coast of all teams got double that.

I know people mean well by asking forbearance for Goodwin, but how much will be enough? When the AFL demotes us to Marvel or Ikon Park? When we have 25,000 members? When we win 2-3 games a season? When we lose all major sponsors? When nobody wants to play for us? When we lose out on funding for Caulfield? When we start hearing about mergers or delisting?

Please stop apologising for the feelings of a few well paid coaches who have shown they have no idea. Please stop accepting mediocrity and inexcusably bad standards.

I went to the MCG on Saturday and saw a bottom four team.

Compare our premiership team with this one and tell me who is better than they were then, or who has come in and replaced someone? Good as Windsor is, he isn’t yet a replacement for Gus. No one is near Hibberd, Jackson, Brown or ANB. And the rest have gone backwards. We’re miles off it.

My mindset:

  1. Angry with the coach

  2. Playing group is not playing for the coach

  3. Watching us play is horrible, boring and demoralising

  4. Nothing will get better until Goodwin is sacked

  5. Feels like there is not much hope with the current list who are confused and unhappy

  6. The fan base has turned on the coach but there are a still a few positive [censored] who claim it will work out and it’s only round 3. These apologists that accept poor standard are the problem with our club.

    BUT

  7. I will still go to games

  8. Still driving to Geelong, going to Adelaide and Perth and Alice Springs

  9. Not throwing away my membership because the club will still be there once the coach is sacked.

  10. Will still Barack my hart out for them

These are good points

Was mulling this on my run today: questions for everyone.

What’s a pass mark for Goodwin this year?

If he was to go, at what stage do you think we reach that point. Season end, no final? 0-6? 0-10? 2-8?

Membership off 10%? 20%?

Crows down? 20% 30%

At what point is enough, enough?

I mean, there’s no way I’m investing thousands flying to Adelaide from OOL for this game we’re playing.

I’m even in two minds taking our eldest (10) to his first game at Metricon v Suns at (game time and date TBC until 1 hour before game - WHY does the afl persist with this nonsense ? People need certainty to plan flights and accomodation. It’s a clown show)

Yes, this decline has been coming for a while. Reminds me of the famous quote: "How did you go bankrupt? Two ways: Gradually, then suddenly"

Seems to me we have hit the suddenly part after being gradual since 2023
