Interesting to see if goody is on afl 360 Wednesday night.  I'm sure Garry has some questions

Why wouldn’t he be dees189227, he’s a big boy and should have recovered from the loss by Wednesday.

I'm not sure if it's his Wednesday night to be on. That's all I meant.

They wont come down hard on Goody yet. There's a few others in front of Goody who deserve more attention. Brad Scott and John Longmuir to name a few. Remember the later was a premiership fancy by some.

Kingy this AM / last night said the era is over. I'm glad he finally got the memo, i think most knew it was over in 2024 and 25+ was about how we could reinvent ourselves to contend again. those thinking we are genuine chance this year were perhaps a bit fanciful in their expectations. Realistically we were a very slight chance to make top 4, reasonable chance to make top 8 but more likely chance to finish somewhere 9-14. The later wont surprise most pundits in the game as that is the expectation externally. It is what we do with this year that is important.

Geelong were able to reinvent themselves in 2022 after several straight exits and miraculously turned it around and won a flag the same year - i think this was more exception than the norm. Hawthorn found their mojo midway through last year after being cellar dwellers for nearly half a decade and now don't look like slowing down. Same story with GWS. This is why 2024 was a waste, we could have moved past these teething problems but silly coaching and ego got in the way. There is a line though to performance. Everybody will have it slightly different including the media. I think if we go 0-5, Goody wont be around much longer.

I know its only round 2, but I'm looking at the Kicking Efficiency % season average so far

Viney - 44.8%
Petracca - 40%
Sparrow - 38.5%

All 3 are quite high in the metres gained component - is it just the long bomb or do we have too many butchers?

Well clearly he isn't a big boy if he's already canned his weekly post game segment yeah? Pretty poor that its literally taken only 2 games into the season for this to disappear.

He's already thrown our captain under the bus with his bizarre take post match, so for me he still lacks the maturity levels in how to deal with the media.

Sorry Dazzle I didn’t see it that way at all, I watched the presser from a neutral perspective and thought that he wanted people to know that Max may have had underlying personal issues in the background. I didn’t see it as throwing Max under the bus. I think it depends on a person’s opinion of Simon Goodwin.

Agree.

I think he was trying to stand up for his Captain, who always gives his all, but had a bad day.

It was probably an off the cuff remark and he wasn't specific, just saying Max deserved a bit of slack.

It's not a hanging offence.

You could have shown this stay three years ago and it would have read no different.

Viney and Sparrow are major culprits of butchering and bombing long over the journey. Trac also has that tendency but when he is concentrating, he can compose himself.

Simple fact is we have too many who cannot use the ball. That is literally all it is. Kicking and decision making.

I don’t think he did it

Without Max’s prior knowledge or consent it never should have been brought up. And I seriously doubt Max would want to have Goodwin making excuses for him.

Just incredibly poor judgement from Goody.

The problem with these kinds of losses is that they make 2023 hurt just that little bit more.

And seriously, if we had the slow game plan to take it up to Collingwood then, why are we trying so hard to be offensive and free flowing and different now? Has the game changed so much in two years?

I can't wait for Steven May to get back, hopefully his presence at least brings about more accountability in holding structure. And maybe Jakey Melksham in the forward line too.

I think this is spot on. Poor judgment on Goody’s part? Absolutely. Well intentioned? Also absolutely.

Should have said nothing at all.
“Max had a Bad day” which is the truth

Kane Cornes would have instantly become moist hearing that Presser. Absolutely no need for it

I’ve read and posted plenty of rubbish on this forum but this has to be near the top. The guy’s played a quarter and a game at Casey and you’ve ascertained that because he wasn’t gushing on draft night he’s not going to work out at Melbourne ?

I actually agreed with this post 100%

Hmm it seems the realists had it correct yesterday. Too many players who are not much more than average players and no KPF's. Add to that we are playing some players out of position and the Roos killed us. Until a few return from injury the future looks bleak. At the best I can see us 1 and 3 and zero 4 is not out of the question. At present we have an average kpf in JVR who's form is terrible and an injured kid who has yet to prove he can cut it at Senior level and probably won't play again for some time. We now know that Fritz is a deep forward so let's play him there.

Three of the player position changes we’ve made haven’t worked and won’t ever work imo.

Langdon was one of the best wingers in the game. Crazy to have him playing midfield.

Rivers needs to go back to being a defender - I’m not even sure what he’s doing now but he doesn’t have the ball handling and nous to play in the middle.

And Fritter looks completely lost up the field - just as did when Goody had him playing as defender.

Without Maxys consent.

It should never been brought up in the first place. I'm all for going in for a bat for his troops but he didn't.. he added further fuel to it which now has journo's grubby hands all over it.

its okay to admit that Max got his colours lowered and had an off day.. you take the L and move on immediately from that. There is no harm in that. It was also quiet disrespectful on Xerri who put on a master performance and he failed to even acknowledge that.

Kingy and Cornes were all over it on SEN this morning.

I don’t doubt this stuff is true.

But how does he know that Gawn was blindsided, but doesn’t know how he reacted?

Anyway, tomorrow will be insightful, given we’re due to hear from Gawn at the least.

And also - I [censored] hate that we’re doing this whole off field drama thing again, just two weeks into the season.

I don’t think Goodwin and co are trying to completely change our style. It’s natural to evolve it just takes more than a preseason to bed down. The comp is also incredibly even so if you don’t bring your A game prepare to lose.

This is a completely concocted story. The coach gave a tiny fraction of something away and now it’s being used to bash the club. Tom Morris is a scum bag.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.

After a one-year reprieve, the Demons return down the freeway to Kardinia Park — the site of both one of our greatest triumphs and one of our darkest days — as they face the Cats under Friday night lights. This one could get ugly. Who comes in, and who comes out?
