Neale only 6 touches…oh why did we let JJ go?

That kick for goal that was touched on the line? Sparrow would have made the distance.

WTF, great finish but ruined by the ump not blowing the whistle for time wasting, that 50 was a joke.

I love people's criticism of the kickout to Gawn. It was the most effective kickout strategy leading to scores in the AFL.

From 21-23 when we used the kick to Gawn tactic we were ranked 16, 18, and 16 at scores from kickin?  So how was it the most effective kickout strategy?

Interesting games tonight

Expecting to see a lot from North at least in the first half

Dogs could finish 4th or 14th

Port should beat the Pies but they can be flakey too

Where did you find that? I read an article in 2023 saying we were number 1??

Swans 0–2
Pies should be 0–2 after this.
Happy days.

Can’t work out who’s going to win out of Kangas and dogs??

So howie and huddo are calling the pies game with dunstall & Delsanto.

The other game features derm but Matt Hill is calling so that's ok

Power v Pies tonight

This is a clear case of the saying....

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Go Port

Kill them.

Yep, even in the premiership season we were right down the bottom for share of scores coming from kick-ins.

The long kick to Gawn was always a 'safety' option which suited our defense-first strategy and to gain ground and at least a stoppage 60-70m away from defensive goals. Evidently it did that job very well - the number 1 rating might refer to score differential from kick-ins, because being scored against from a kick-in is a much bigger issue than whether you go end-to-end - but it has not at all been an attacking strategy in the Goodwin era.

And, personally, I'm okay with that. It is just a case of playing the percentages, especially when you've got the likes of Gawn leaning on the scales for you.

Well I take that back then, it may well of been score differential I remember reading about.

Quick note, with 5 games to play, the probably of Richmond finishing the round in 9th spot is 50/50, and close to 100% if Melbourne beat GWS.

The natural balance of the galaxy rest in our hands.

Membrey would have been a good pick up for us. From memory the media linked us to him but Lamb shut it down pretty quick. Been doing a steady job up forward for years now.

I think Johnson will be more durable as a top 25 player

Someone explain to me why I picked Norf please.

Lachie Jones would probably prefer not to join the Port huddle at quarter time.

Round 12 kicks off with the Brisbane hosting Essendon at the Gabba as the Lions aim to solidify their top-two position against an injury-hit Bombers side seeking to maintain momentum after a win over Richmond. On Friday night it's a blockbuster at the G as the Magpies look to extend their top of the table winning streak while the Hawks strive to bounce back from a couple of recent defeats and stay in contention for the Top 4. On Saturday the Suns, buoyed by 3 wins on the trot, face the Dockers in a clash crucial for both teams' aspirations this season. The Suns want to solidify their Top 4 standing whilst the Dockers will be desperate to break into the 8.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.

  • POSTGAME: Sydney

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.
