Word on the street is Longmuir told the team to  play like [censored] so other teams couldn’t get the behind the goals footage of their elite game plan…

In fact, the plan is so hush hush, the players don't know it. Absolute genius.

The media are teenyboppers when it comes to Geelong.

Will Geelong ever go away bloody annoying & haven’t bottomed out for 2 decades, their afl review will be interesting

You can bet it won't be…

Yep, the AFL will have already made sure there's nothing of substance to find.

their style of football - fast, flowing, aggressive - is super exciting to watch

the arrogance of their players has nothing to do with the thrill of their style of play

Not sure I critiqued their style of play ..just stated that I prefer not to watch them …

Sloppy Lions so far.

'So the data over the last three years is interesting @binman and @M_9. In 2024, 25 percent of games were won by sides with fewer i50s that their opposition. Here's the spooky bit, in 2023 it was 5 percent and in 2022 it was statistically insignificant ~0 percent.'

I reckon this data is the reason that the FD will be forced to change our game plan. We may have been close in '22 and '23 but the fact is we lost 4 from 4 finals.

2024 - yes, we had injuries to key players and played others (Petty and rucking JvR) out of position, but we were never close to finals let alone a flag.

It appears to me that sides worked us out post our flag. All sides will be better than last year. We could well finish 14th again (7th or 8th is my tip).

Things have to change. Moving Petty back, having a fit and firing Trac and Clarry, plus  couple of likely recruits, merely takes us back to '22 and '23.

We need at least 50 goals from JvR. That ain't going to happen if he's got to ruck, or if the ball enters our fifty high and wide..

I liked Campbell's performance v Xerry, but he's not our future (he's a month older than Max).

AJ lacks height for a ruckman but he can jump, and he's not afraid to use his bulk. If he gets reasonable game time he could well boot 20 goals.

We need to markedly improve our ball movement - score more goals that emanate from our back half.

Getting more turnovers is critical. You can often catch the opposition out of position unlike getting a possession from a clearance.

Look at GWS (v Pies) and their tackling and turnovers in their forward fifty.

My bet is that we see it again tomorrow (their aggression/desperation). Let's match it.

Im hoping Jackson trade value decreases if Freo serve this up on a regular basis.

Alas, Jackson indicated he wanted to play in Freo's first flag, so a trade is off the table. There isn't even a table for it to be on. I'm not sure the tree has even been planted yet for the wood to make the table. It is possible the table could be made out of a lab-grown wood that hasn't even been invented yet.

Sad at seeing the Cats somehow keeping their claws sharp yet again.

Delight at the Dockers' implosion.

Can you be happy and sad at the same time?

Always good seeing Freo get smashed. Truly wish the worst for them.

But it's not good seeing the "Cotton Ons" doing well.

Sydney with the early lead is interesting, and Brisbane seemed to lack concentration.

But the weather up here today is very Sydney - one of those 'temperature overall is hot, but having the sun on you directly is brutal' - so this will be yet another game which comes down to cramps and fitness and how well systems hold up once players can't consistently get to their positions.

Will be very interesting to see if Sydney are a bit fresher from the longer preseason after finishing 2024 a week earlier than Brisbane.

We're Melbourne supporters, so that duality of state (happy/sad = sappy?) is a perpetual experience for us all for years.

Cats just doing their thing. Make it look so easy at their training ground.

Dogs got absolutely fleeced in the Smith trade.

Murphy Reid a positive for Freo. If Jackson doesn't get up I'd look at him as part of the Kozzy trade.

I didn’t think the cats looked very good today.
It’s just that Freo forgot how to kick or catch the ball, apart from five minutes in the third quarter.

Neale only 6 touches…oh why did we let JJ go?

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
