If we are playing both Jeffo and AJ, then surely either Roo is still not right to go, or Disco has been dropped maybe?

can't see us going with all of jvr, fritsch, turner, jefferson, and johnson

if latter two are playing, i'm assuming at least one of the first three aren't

i presume jvr has not come up from his back issue

Still think if that’s true (Roo inj) — club would’ve announced it at presser! If not it’s poor form. Was moving well at Sim so I’m gonna say it’s Turner.. 🙏

That can't be right...that's more than Richmond last night!!  Maybe they got excited by the Tigers win and thought we'd raise them by adding even more fresh faces...can't say I agree with that but surely if that's the case there is a good reason.

That's a lot of fresh faces...didn't think it would happen all at once but very exciting, just hope if Jeffo plays he has a ripper!

There you go my friend.

For future reference, how did you get it to post as the picture rather than just the link?

Club made a point of saying JVR was definitely playing and okay...hope he's okay still

Doesn't make sense at all. JvR looked really good in the last match sim. I guess we'll wait and see at 5pm

Either this site or Twitter/X has been temperamental lately when embedding Twitter/X links.

To ensure the tweet appears correctly, copy the link directly from Twitter/X, paste it here, and wait until the Twitter/X card fully loads before submitting your reply.

Lately, these links either work perfectly or fail altogether. If you’re having trouble, try clicking into the actual tweet first, then copying the URL from there, rather than from your main feed.

Another occasional issue is tweets randomly disappearing from threads after some time. This seems to be a Twitter/X glitch, making it difficult to troubleshoot effectively.

Having said that, it's still far better than Facebook and Instagram, which—for some inexplicable reason—don't allow links to be copied and shared as embedded cards on other websites.

I don't see how disco is in the team with these ins.  and in the possible wet conditions.

Is their a captains run today? That will tell us.

I love the 6 new blokes coming in!

Go Dees!

Yeh but something minor may have happened after that announcement, guess that is the problem with back spasms, little tweak can upset it. Better to play it safe than to risk further aggravation.

Otherwise don't think you need to be playing mind games about the selection of JvR.

Guess we'll see come 5pm.

Assuming Billings isn't playing I reckon one or both of the Langdon and Windsor experiments won't be continuing. I expected Billings to be one of our wingers to start the season.

I can't see a world where XL and Sharp are our 2 primary wingers to enable Langdon to be top 3 or 4 in centre bounce attendances AND Windsor to play half back.

I hope it's Turner rather than JVR that slides out of the 18 that was listed last night but the MFCSS in me reckons it's the latter.

(Although Turner has had an injury prone AFL career to date so he may have sustained a late injury)

Six new players confirmed debuting this week: AJ, Langford, Lindsay, Sharp, Henderson and (get ready PF) Jeffo.

That may be a record.

Bold, aggressive. Dare I say it almost un-Melbourne like and I love it. Signalling a real aggressive intent. Pumped for Round 1 at the best of times but a valve has already been blown on this one. This is peak. Can’t wait to be there. Go You Demons!!!!!

Interesting shake up from conservative match day selections, but guess that's a little forced with some injuries/suspensions.

Been told that Turner has been left out of team. Was named “on-ground” last night because if they had named Jeffo or AJ then the surprise of their debut announcement would have been ruined.

All debutants got told this morning

JVR, Jeffo, AJ are the 3 key forwards

T-Mac, Billings and Turner are the emergencies.

the mini rebuild continues...we copped a lot of flak for a poor season last year but still won 11 games while getting plenty of kids in, better than ending up ancient like Collingwood

@WERRIDEE you're asleep at the wheel mate.

Where's our team that has the six newbies included?

My guess is the 'outs' are Billings, TMac and one of Petty, JvR or ? hasn't come up.

Does the Sub come from the emergencies or someone named in the final side?

Tall Emergency list for a wet weather game but I guess it covers all lines.

Pickett Fence is going to have conniptions today with this news.

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.
