Everyone was crying out for our past president to speak and be vocal in support of the club and its interests.

Greeny is doing that so happy about that, given it is his role as president.

I love it!!  Great to see such a strong message sent to our WA rivals and fantastic to see Brad on the front foot so strongly. Great leadership. Expressed great love for Kozzie but stressed the club comes first. Also quite pointed that if it is a WA club that it won’t be just Freo. As strong a statement that I have seen come from the club in a long time. Over to the WA teams now. They know the price.

We finally get a president that comes out on the front foot and essentially puts it to bed - saying a trade can happen but this is the asking price and you are complaining about that? 
you cannot compare this to the Oliver saga at all….bizarre opinion 

Strong leadership. 
you can bury your head in the sand and say Kozzy wants to be in Melbourne. He’s going to light it up this year but his reality is that he wants to play in WA and so we are strong in preparing the WA clubs in what they will need to pay for such a unique talent.

Pickett’s future

Pickett last week addressed persistent reports that he’d texted friends at Fremantle that he’d join them at the Dockers next year, conceding he was homesick at times. Green did not shut down the speculation.

“The Kozzy Pickett scenario, people will talk about that all year. I think we’re always about the player first. We love Kozzy as a teammate, he is such a lovable character around the place,” Green said.

“The thing that our members and supporters have got to know is if they (reports) come to fruition and he wants to go to Perth, then we’re going to be OK. He’s got three years on his contract, so we’re going to get two or three first round draft picks.

“So we either keep the player that we love and respect – and we want him to stay – but if for family reasons he wants to go back, that’s OK. Fremantle or West Coast or any other club can come up with three first round draft picks or he’s not going anywhere. I can tell you that – he’s not going anywhere unless we as a club get a deal we want.”

Spot on — kudos indeed! We ain’t gonna be pushed around no more.. whip hand, 2 in the hand 1 in bush.. all that is correct and I love the fact BG calls it out to the media wayne K’s themselves 

Negotiation 101

Whether anyone else thinks he is worth 3 first round picks (he is - and if you don't believe me, have a look at the persistent efforts to get him - and he's only 23) is irrelevant. He's contracted. We set the price at 3 first rounders, and it's the role of the other club(s) to open the wallet, tip the couch cushions over, whatever. Maybe we get 2 first rounders and something else. That's a decent outcome (even if I prefer Kozzie, and would love for him to stay). If we set the price at 2 first rounders, maybe we only get 1 first rounder and some change, and that's no good at all. 

The price (if there's indeed a trade here, in 2026) is 3 first rounders.

If you can't pay, you keep on walking.

He hasn't put anything to bed. He's raised a starting bid. The statement show's we're considering the trade internally.

It's absolute fodder for the media.

Totally agree, and it’s just adding fuel to a story that should just go away so Pickett can at least play a good year. His value will be determined by how well he plays!

Also, not all first round picks are created equally. Geelong stole Jezza Cameron with the worst trio of first rounders you’ll ever see. So if you are setting a price don’t allow wiggle room for a junk platter.

Jeez, as a club it seems we're damned if we do, damned if we don't. Kate Roffey was pushed out of the presidency for not doing exactly what Brad Green is doing.  Is there no satisfying some people?

I think Greeny’s presentation can be a little rough around the edges at times, but I think the premise was fine ‘we aren’t just rolling over on a trade’.

Agree, not all drafts are equal either. I feel the Shay Bolton deal has sort of set the price. Problem is that last years draft was very strong to the end of the first round and this years has less talent and is more compromised by NGA and F/S. 
 

A well written article by Michael Gleeson & kudos to Brad Green for speaking about his personal life & the team he represented, captained, currently serves as president & obviously loves!

Fair enough on the specifics, generally though he's just establishing a position of strength for potential future negotiations which is fine, and also letting Kozzie and his management know how highly he's valued. 

big picture it's unlikely to change anything but the outcome, but Kozzie is contracted and i certainly wouldn't be accepting any deal that isn't really good for us.

Surely there is room for more nuance than this.

Do some supporters think if it isn't spoken about it might go away ?  That's hysterical.

Nothing has changed.  It will be discussed in the media most days for the rest of the year.

The MFC will do what is best for the MFC.

I wouldn't trade him under any circumstances at the end of this year.  The end of 2026 you'd have to consider it.
