Boys got out here half an hour early and they’re in great spirits. It’s sunny and everyone’s got a massive spring in their step.

Marty is here with his hand well bandaged. He’s super upbeat though.

Can we please ensure all reports are in by 1pm?

Things to look out for -

• Windsor’s foot
• Spargo’s ankle
• McVee’s hamstring
• Culley’s alround vibe

Things to avoid -

• Poor grammar
• Lack of detail
• Over egging it

Huge love for Kolt. He just had his first run! Ricky Lever was very vocal with his congratulations, but when isn’t he, amirite?

Kolt says he feels great. And I believe him coz he couldn’t look happier. Pete, the head physio, told me Kolt is “an exceptional young man” and “his dedication can’t be questioned.”

Melky also says he feels great and he has only “two weeks or thereabouts” before he’s fully ready.

I had huge hopes for Kolt this season... unfortunately it has been delayed but hope to see him mid season!

Alan Richardson was on SEN WA this morning with Tim Gossage and Scott Cummings. Judd McVee should be returning to the line up in round 2 or round 3 and is progressing well with his Rehabilitation Program.

That's a very good result for McVee.

Pity we don't have GWS in round 3 instead of round 1 as they have a superior small forward department to North and Gold Coast.

Any track watchers able to report how Windsor is training today, and whether he's likely for Sunday?

Thank god they've got the lights on, training in such appalling conditions.

Windsor trained fully and looked good.  I’d be surprised if he didn’t play Sunday.

Marty says a few weeks. The broken bone is on the top of his hand in between his index and middle fingers. He says in terms of broken bones in the hand/wrist this bone isn’t the worst to break. He was praised by one of the physios for electing to attend the session today even though he can’t do much apart from kicking the ball gently but not having it kicked back to him, of course.

Incidentally, he didn’t have a plaster of Paris cast on his hand. That mustn’t be a thing anymore.

edit: I just remembered that Marty said it’s only bandaging because there are plates in his hand.

Yes! Judd was into everything today. He’s running well and Pete the physio is really happy with his progress. The very first thing he did this morning was a tackling session with Melky, and they weren’t holding back.

Given they will be missing a few due to the end of year shenanigans I’m still happy we play them round 1 personally, they are my pick to win the flag this year

Hopefully Jai Culley is doing well? Very happy he is now officially a Demon. Being a Melbourne supporter growing up this must be a dream come true for him.

Please let Harvey "The Bison" Langford know we all look forward to him earning a spot in the AFL side when Simon Goodwin thinks he is ready.

Any indication of the likely 22 that will play on Sunday?

Seems as though most teams have been naming 26, then 22 play from the start with the other four either featuring minimally or not at all.

Luker update: he’s 86d the ‘tache. He said it was a rash decision this morning but he’s keen to grow it back. I said please don’t. 😅

I told him the Bison (the footballer formerly known as Harves) needs to shave off the poor excuse for a “moustache” that hovers above his lip. Luker said he has suggested this to the Bison but was told “the girls like it.” 🤷‍♀️

Serious Luker update: he was on the stationary bike. Without me asking about a timeline, he again said he’ll be good to go in two months. I told him I’m sure he’ll get back his muscle tone and gain weight in no time because it’s easier for a young person.

Then I remembered someone on here saying he’ll need to do a full preseason, so I said this to him and he answered, “This is my preseason” and gestured towards the bike. He wasn’t joking. I didn’t know what to say so I just nodded like an id!0tt, which isn’t unusual  🤭

in any event, he seems way more positive than he was last week. He doesn’t look as gaunt now and he has more energy (he was on the bike for quite a while and was upping the speed). Most importantly he wasn’t downcast like he was last week.

Short session today, I didn’t get to talk to many of my faves. The Bison waved from the field and gave me a double thumbs up and a big grin. I reckon he knows what us fans think of him. 😊 👍🏽👍🏽

Good to hear Luker is on the mend, that was a bit scary to hear how sick he got.  And great news about Melksy, Kolt and Knuckle, can't wait to see them back.  Poor Marty, hope he's not in too much pain.

Beautiful morning, not much wind, more than a couple of dozen spectators.

The players were up and about, boisterous and having fun.

One of their last drills were three teams competing in a hard at it, handball game in a small area. Goody was encouraging them in it and to win. He also took them aside a couple of times and talked to them, during the session.

Halfway through training, those that are playing in the Casey game tomorrow left the area. Included were, Tmac, Campbell, Laurie, Jefferson, Mentha, Brown, Verrall.

I didn't notice Fullarton or Sestan. Henderson was training but had no number, maybe he will get a run for Casey. Spargo was doing some short runs in runners, it was mentioned that he will play at Casey.

Those that stayed with the main squad included, Howes, Adams, Lindsay, Langford, Windsor, Salem, Turner, Sharp, Woewodin, Johnson.

Viney was running well and getting plenty in the sims (two 5 minute sets).

Sparrow looking strong and with good involvement.

Wings had Billings, Lindsay, Woewodin and Sharp in those positions.

Chandler running extensively up and down the field, off half-forward.

Johnson struggled a bit keeping up with Gawn. At a couple of stages, Gawny was instructing Johnson on the ruck craft.

Lever intercepting well. Apart from him stopping our thrusts, we showed good overall skills, with fast ball movement and kicking to advantage.

Adams was getting heavily involved and with good skills.

Rivers is ready to go, looking very good, as is Bowey.

Tracc a little rusty, missed some hits when distributing.

Oliver continues to push himself, working very hard.

Windsor was running freely.

They had cones ten meters in from the boundary line. Looks like that want them to find corridors and not safety.

I was told they are flying early tomorrow.

One of the best reports of the season. Clearly the pressure I’ve applied is paying dividends

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
