I read somewhere on Twitter/X that Roy George was very lively during the Casey match. Will be fun to watch at Casey this season

Langford had 19 disposals and 5 marks.

Skull Murphy’s finishing move was his lethal head but. There was no escape once he administered it. He was reputed to have a skull 5 times thicker than a normal human.

Is there a full stats sheet somewhere?

That's VERY funny.

Not a bad debut at all!

And from following a few of the other practice matches it seems like he had one of the better stat lines of the other rookies who played

I reckon we’ve got one here

Watched the game this morning and was really happy with the performance.

North looked ordinary, but our ball movement and spread of goalkickers was very 2018.

I've been banging on this Chaplin drum for a while. He is brilliant and whichever line we send him to, his group elevates itself.

Anyway, so really happy with the very solid performance, particularly without our best winger, our leading goalkicker over the last half decade, our x7 AA captain and our Norm Smith medallist to name a few. And I get on here and start reading the thread and you would think we were being belted.

Good old Demonland. Proving that we have just as many nuffies as any other supporter group.

What was the final score after 4 qtrs?

I can't be f kd scrolling through pages watched until the start of the 4th we were 15 points up.

10.11.71 to 18.9.117.

So really close and worth gnashing our teeth over...

just watched the highlights on the afl website.

we looked good. and I'm always happy to see us kick straight.

can't wait for the season proper to get started.

Would make a good politician

I like a lot of the comments (more than I noted)

AMW was great and I hope his injury doesnt set him back too far.

The players we had out were our best 22 and it will be hard to get in the side but Langford was one obvious.

The most influential factor was the wind, and it certainly affected the input of JVR, Disco and Jeffo and indeed all the talls. I was concerned all day that we did not structure up for the wind. When we had the wind In attack  we had noone behind the pack and North were able to clear it often. In defence when they had the win we were too far forward. TMac was great and seemed to position himself aware of the wind. Jake also played his usual role.

Kozzie was excellent in creating so many movements through the centre, it was obvious in the first two quarters and he really did keep us in the game.

The last half was a bit of a walk away as all our players finished well.

I liked Jeffo who did add a different aspect to the forward structure. but he will be competing with Fritta on todays performance. I would like JVR as dedicated forward with ruck duties only deep forward.

Possibly an MCL? He was holding the inside of the knee.

That was my suspicion, often hurts more than acl. Hoping for the best

Hope this is true.

Problem might be that he's done the unhappy triad, which is where you pop the ACL, the MCL and the meniscus. The ACL is often agonising pain that subsides reasonably quickly and then becomes a dull ache inside the knee - it's hard to point to. The MCL is also painful, but lingers and is easy to identify (if a physio asks you).

Gee I thought we had a few possibles not playing today, Gawn, Viney, Tracc, May, Windsor, Salem, Langdon might be chance to sneak in come round 1!

And what’s the recovery road for an MCL?

I've read two comments indicating Harvey Langford may lack pace. I'm a wrap for Harvey but is this a genuine concern or about adjusting to a quicker pace?

Does Bont have ‘pace’? That’s who Langford reminds me of in the way he moves and kicks the footy.

don’t think it’ll be an issue for him. Gonna be a Star.

Actually he was supposed to have a metal plate in his skull which was BS.

And he was promoted as coming from County Cork in Ireland but was in fact Canadian.

i think generally it's 8 weeks at the extreme end

the way chaplin was talking at the end it sounds like it's an acl unfortunately

He’s one-paced in the same way Robert Harvey and Scott Pendlebury are. A bloody good way.

Thought the same 'Adam'...I didn't get to watch it live and won't see the game until tomorrow night.

...but man I thought we were getting smashed then someone put the score up.

My cousin claimed he saw Skull, the Brute, Mario Milano and Spiros Arion dining together in a Lygon St restaurant. He actually believed wrestling was real before then.

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
