Brilliantly said, this man must be captain ASAP.

Huge game coming from The Rock tomorrow, I can feel it. B)

Last years final showed that he's a big game player, i'm looking forward to him tearing it apart tomorrow.

PS you gotta admire the player's loyalty to Danners. This has been a terrible year for every one around the club, but it still seems the players are behind Neale. Don't know if it'll do him any good, if he can show us what kind of a team we are when we're fit and firing then maybe......

My concern with danners is that he is on a razors edge, and is out the door this season or next if a flag isnt won. How will younger players like mclean and jones cope with the coach being swept out and new ideas being swept in by dannners replacement?

Mcleans seems to be behind him 100%. Will we see a riewoldt type reaction if the coach is swept out? (roo wont be at the saints next year)

nietz spoke about the possibility of sharing the captaincy next year, i say neita, no need the CHOOKA! is and will be the captain for the next 10 years starting from round 1 next year!

You want to know the difference between McLean and Reiwoldt?

McLean eats glass and nails for breakfast. Reiwoldt eats rainbows and lollipops.

I wouldn't mind seeing Neita and McLean as co-captains next year. I'd rather have McLean as a stand-alone captain, but if the club feels he isn't ready, co-captains seems like a good solution.

thomas deperated in a fairly unceramonious way, whereas if danner's went it would be largely attributed to our terrible season and win-loss ratio. Don't think they're really comparable situation..

I reckon these blokes will be fine.

Is it me or does anything Brock says or does, someone from this forum will always comment that his captaincy material.

He could pop his pimple on camera and someone will comment. Look at that. Captaincy material.

Brock's great and a genuine supastar but enuf.

Yep, you're right that does happen a lot......

But to be fair there is a pretty good reason for it :P

The youth will be fine WC. Don't worry about the kids. Fewer habits to break. Putty to mould. Problem lay with the seasoned 'establishment'. Thats when you see the broom come out. The "Old dogs and new tricks" scenario. Which ever way it goes at seasons end WC, the broom will probably still make a cameo.

Yeah, you've got to remember that Daniher has been given a pretty good run - very few people would have been cheering for him after 2003 but he still got the nod to continue.

I don't think there would be much bitterness in the departure, which always helps a transition.

Hell, maybe Danners could just take a load off and coach Sandringham for a while, finally get himself a premiership!

Honestly, I'd be much more concerned about replacements. Like it or not Daniher has been a good coach and who'd blame the players for being annoyed if he was ditched just for the sake of it, without a good succession in place.

Like I've said before and will keep saying for ever, we need stable, long-term assistant coaches who can be groomed to step up to the main role in future. Ideally, these would be 'favourite sons' committed to the club. My tip is Viney to shift over from the Hawks.

Stan Alves ( a self confessed Daniher fan) on ABC 774 was talking about how Melbourne's new strategy over the pre-season has cost them more this season than injuries have.

Jared Rivers was just interviewed and he talked about how Melbourne spent a lot of time training for the new game plan over the pre-season and how it hasn't helped this season.

It was interesting to hear these comments coming from both former and current Melbourne stars.

Riewoldt drinks his own tears aswell right?

Brock is clearly the standout leader to take over from Neitz, but FCS a player defending the coach and blaming the players is just par for the course for any team that's lost more than it's won. Not much different than what Jeff White said a couple of weeks ago.

Today i think we saw the potential of how the game plan could be used properly. When we were up and running in the 1st quarter we constantly had a person running on after a mark had been taken. The problem is 1: it's very attacking and can catch people out if they've left their man and 2:it takes a lot out of you, our best period went for about 10 minutes and then we were stuffed.

I still think injuries has taken a shocking toll on our season, the game plan has only just started working because we've got the right people implementing it.

Or the game plan has changed and we're kicking it long.

Listening to MMM on the way in to the 'G today Lyon stated that Melbourne were last for long kicks this season but in the last month or so had kicked longer than their opponents.

Agreed.

I'm not so sure there's that much scope for the 'broom' considering the state of our list. We've got plenty of older fringe players who will be gone in the next two years regardless and they need to be delisted before we get creative.

Interesting - when did he say that?

In the past he's said he'd like to finish his career as a 'soldier', handing over the captaincy to another player before he ends his playing days.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
