FWIW, last Saturday at the captain’s run Judd said that his decision on his future has nothing to do with who our head coach is/was. He said nothing has changed with the sacking of Goody, he’s always planned (and still plans) on staying. Then on Tuesday he said “just some loose ends to tie up, but yeah, I’m not leaving.”

Incidentally, I don’t ask him about his decision, he volunteers the info.

Ok, so I may’ve given him the odd death threat or two, but that was in the past. I don’t even need to give him the sideways stink-eye..: he knows. 😁

What I bet he wants is to play at least half back rather than being the main lock down defender. Salem was his mentor when he came to the club and I bet he wants his spot.

West Coast are also going to absolutely ream us with the PSD threat. We’ll be lucky to get a future second. Maybe we can push the AFL to make their priority pick dependent on trading it and get a start of the second rounder. Either way it’s not a win.

I'd flip Judd and Rivers.

Judd is more composed with ball in hand, and is a creative kick of the ball. He could give a passable NAS impersonation.

Rivers has a Pig like athletic profile and could be a nice match up for guys like Heeney and Toby Greene.

Judd is really important player for us i reckon.

He has only recently been getting somewhere near his best this season but that is because his injuries completely derailed his season (ditto for Kolt to a lesser extent, Lindsay whose PCL meant he had a sub optimal preseason - the impact of interrupted preseasons cant be underestimated, partic for young players).

By far our biggest need is elite kicks and when on Judd is arguably our best field kick. Totally agree that Judd likey wants to play half back rather than being the main small/medium lock down defender. And like you i suspect the only reason he hasn't is the injury to AMW who was primed for the key role of small/medium lock down defender.

Judd's best position IMO is not a mid it is an attacking half back flanker that has the green light to run off his nominal opponent, be aggressive and push forward (would love him to be takin a high number of inside 50 kicks) and take on high risk kicks on transition that open up opposition's zones defences.

That role has become one of the most critical in footy given how important ball movement is atm. A player that comes to mind that plays that role super well (and a player i would love to come to the dees) is Kitty Coleman.

Yep, that's a fair call. If anything Bowser's field kicking has improved this year, particularly in terms of the depth of his kicks - for a little fella he can really woof the ball and unlike say Rivers can do so whilst still being accurate.

Definitely, he frees Bowey to play a more attacking style.

I don’t think walking to the the draft threat is a valid option? Isn’t that only for RFA’s? Even so we would get compensation would we not?

Also that would be a royal middle finger to the club from McVee, which I doubt he would do.

Only way this happens is if we ask for something stupid like pick 1. I’d say Judd is worth WC’s 2nd round pick in 2026 or maybe a late 1st if they were able to get one.

I think, and hope, that he'll stay. But playing devils advocate with a trade to WA the following picks could be available at current live ladder positions...

Oh yes…this reminds of the first half of 2021 where some on here purely looked at stats. They wanted Gus dropped every single week in the first 10 rounds or so of that year due to his low possession numbers. Little did they know.
