It is well documented that Riewoldt was not happy Jan when Cornflakes got the sack. He is also out of contract at season's end.

Realistically, our chances of getting Judd to the club are close to zero.

However, I reckon it seems that Riewoldt may well be a great option bc he is a gutsy, hard working and skilled CHF who may actually be able to be lured.

I hope we are putting massive energy into getting him to the demons from 2008. It would enhance our list massively.

i actually think we've got more chance of getting judd. the only way we'll get judd is if he nominates that he wants to come to us putting us in the bargaining seat.

however i would be very happy if nick pulled on the red and blue...

Its a pipe dream, both Nick's are going nowhere.

Im not so sure of that. There are alot of unhappy people down at the saints.

And if there president doesnt stop acting like a [censored], i can see people starting to leave.

There is something seriously wrong with the way the saints conduct there business.

All that stuff with Tim Watson, and then the million dollar deal with Malcom Blight which turned sour.

Then the sacking of Grant Thomas. It all doesnt really add up.

Question is, do we want Riewoldt? What are we willing to give up to get him?

I would pretty much say that the asking price for him would be AROUND the same as Judd.

First round draft pick and a player. At the least.

Rather Nick Dal Santo, than Nick Riewoldt.

Would cost us less, and will make just as much of an impact.

Dal Santo is just TJ in a Saints jumper.

I'd love Riewold at Melbourne, I've noticed at the Saints he thrives more when Gehrig isn't playing, since Neita only has a couple of years left it'd be great to have Riewoldt.

I think he's more likely to come to us than Judd or Pav as well.

Riewold sign him up, Is a Elite player of the competition and would be a good replacement for Neitz long term. He wasnt happy with the sacking of Thomas last year, which I imagine sapped alot of his faith in the club. He Maybe interested in Fresh start.

Surely the Dees are talking to his Managment.

Riewoldt - several city streets - Dal Santo.

If he could kick straight i'd add a few more city streets.

Having said that the likliehood of landing either is slim at best.

???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

WTH

do we not already have a talented midfield ?

DO WE NOT WANT A KEY POSITION PLAYER (CHF)?

do not agree with anythin .... tho it would cost a lot to get him down to the club...

I'm not a Reiwoldt fan.

He is an excellent mark but an ordinary kick.

Also don't forget that it takes a good midfield to get the supply down to the forwards.

We have a good midfield, but we are still lacking another talented ball-winner who knows how to use the ball. Dal Santo fits the bill, and won't cost us an arm and a leg. He will also help take the heat off TJ, McLean and Jones.

Obviously Judd and Pavlich are much more appealing than these two, but we will have to trade some of our big name players to land them. Are you prepared to do that?

Because he is over rated, constantly injured and not worth what he would be asking. Good Richmond can have him

Three B & F at the saints which have played finals, including last year, yeah your right Over rated we are better off with Miller.

how many ballwinners do we want?

like i said ... i think KPP is needed more....

although i do have faith in miller becoming that and dunn

are we willing to trade big name players? ..... hmmm everyone else is.... green bruce etc...

im not sure...the way our season is going the number 1 or 2 pick... could easily reduce the price....

Melbourne's midfield is no better than what used to be known as "blue collar".

McDonald is a good ordinary player who had an excellent year last year. McLean and Jones look like they will be top-line but one's just played 50 games and the other is a 2nd year player. Davey is not really a midfielder with his body size. Bruce is very good but criticised a lot for his kicking. Green is very good but questions still remain about his best position (forward, wing, Goddard role in backline). TJ is probably the most skilful player on Melbourne's list but doesn't get enough of it, nor enough in the right places. Moloney is mostly injured.

Dal Santo is a genuine quality outside midfielder with excellent skills. He should be cheaper than Judd, Pavlich, Riewoldt but he was a first round draft pick, is only 23 and his reputation has only gone one way since he was drafted and it isn't down.

Riewoldt over rated, if all the Bruce bashers are on the Riewoldt bandwagon I may just have to jump off a cliff. He also has shocking taste in girlfriends :)

Riewoldt is worth a hundred more times what Bruce is worth. You cant be serious

I have never been a massive fan of Riewoldt because he loves himself and is generally a pain in the arse, but I would give my left nut to have him in a Demon jumper

Anyone would

Riewoldt is renowned for his courageous and spectacular marks running into oncoming traffic. Something Bruce has not done once in his entire career

I think anyone is dreaming that Dal Santo will be any cheaper than the others, He is a star on the rise, thus why everyone wants him and demand equals $.

Exactly.

And your assessment of our midfield is spot on.

Junior is nearing the end, TJ is erratic, Green is better suited to the wing (he is not an inside ball winner), while Bruce is already 28.

So that leaves McLean and Jones as long term options. Who helps them out?

I wouldn't say no to Reiwoldt, hell, I'd welcome him with open arms despite his obvious downfalls, but the reality is, he'd cost us as much as Judd, and we'd be fighting for him with 8 over Victorian clubs. Whereas if Judd nominates Melbourne as his next home, it will reduce the bidding war significantly and will put us in a much better bargaining position.

Dal Santo will most likely get lost in the madness that is having Judd, Pavlich and Reiwoldt out of contact, so we might get a good deal for him.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
