I missed what happened yesterday with North, but heard they offered their Future 1st to every club from Pick 8 onwards until Richmond swapped a pick in the 20's, and they grabbed Whitlock.... And north fans are all furious. Why did every club pass on it? Is next years draft really bad? Do clubs think North can bounce?

So we were offered it and decided to take Xavier Lindsay over what will probably be a Pick between 1-5 next year? Big call imo. But 1 year development for a player who will probably be as good as anyone from 3-10+ onwards next year anyway, I can see why the club passed, and why every other club passed.

With the academy kids dominating the top of the draft every side up until 20 was probably right to pass. Sydney and GWS passing with their 2nd and 3rd picks is very strange

I’ve changed my mind again. This draft was excellent with the talls to about 40 then got weird in a hurry with clubs going for all sorts of randos.

Still would’ve loved one of those top 40 talls but the mids especially but even the flankers seem to run out quickly.

The Freo trade down might’ve been the option.

Can’t help but feel like we went way too hard to get the extra first rather than try to maximise picks and list turnover by 3-4 picks in this middle range of the draft. Essendon might’ve cooked us here

Agree. Though always clearer in hindsight.  Maybe we could have held the pick 46 or 54 back.  Guys like Clancy Dennis or Hamish Davis are still available! I thought they’d be gone by now.  Even young Jasper Alger still not picked.

If we go tall one of Stumpf, Burmeister, Lowther, Voss might be on the cards. Quite like Josh Murphy as a 3rd tall.

That is pick 60 done and Josh Murphy , Cochrane, Davis, Dennis all still available… wow.  Deep quality in this draft. Even VFL stars like Henderson and Brew not picked yet.

@Nascent  Thought that Stumpf’s performance at the combine might just about get him picked late.  He was probably a rookie chance but clubs sometimes value the bigger guys with good athleticism and pace . Still plenty of picks coming up …

Will Noah Yze get a rookie opportunity AM?

He’s an awkward unusual player and those half forwards can sometimes fail but that’s great value in Davis for the Eagles, reckon there’s a big winger who can stretch opponents forward with that profile

Eagles … Hamish Davis at 65.  That’s a robbery !! Eagles drafting has been strong. But again won’t know until 2028 or beyond.

Lions … pass !!! Three picks. Two academy and a father son. Recruiting team must have had a busy year

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
