I really hate him and I'm fully committed to crossing over to the dark side and giving him as much love as he needs.

AD would be an amazing get and I'm sure all of us would wrap our arms and legs right around him.

And like the Black Sorrows sang, โ€œAnd never let him go (donโ€™t let him go!)โ€

Kind of.

My guess is the club has landed on Nicholson and theyโ€™re just verifying before announcing

Hope so. That would be a great appointment.

MFC needs to get back to appointing our own. We're lucky in that sense, wherein, we've had a lot of X players, go off and gain valuable experience at successful clubs. Gerald Healy mentions getting Andy D. That would be a mistake. We need a high IQ leader.

Nah, appointing our own for the sake of it is silly. Board members and presidents should be supporters because it's a passion project for them but employees should just be the best person for the job.

Appointing our own has been a boon for this club.

As opposed to outsiders like Pert, McNamee, etc.?

Regarding Vlad, does calling us โ€˜irrelevantโ€™ and then coming back to save us count as an inside job?

I couldnโ€™t think of any job Vlad would less want to do

Imagine being the poor flunk who has to tell him itโ€™s time to sign off on his AI-penned open letter to members

Well, here's the thing. The best administration we've had in the last 50 years is the one effectively led by outsiders in PJ and the president that was installed by the AFL around the same time.

We haven't had any other brilliant administrators to compare, but I distinctly remember the constant infighting with boards and poor appointments (sometimes to outsiders like McNamee), and I was very grateful when the AFL stepped in and basically ran the show for 5 years, giving PJ almost free reign over reconstruction of our club.

He then put in place good governance, good structure and good people, the club then proceeded to abandon what he'd built and went out and hired Pert. It's been downhill off field ever since.

Al Nicholson for me unless we poach a proven sports CEO. He has the perfect lead in experience to take it on, its got nothing to do with him being a mfc man. Has led sports organisations and consulted in sport at high levels

As a matter of interest, who was the last CEO we had (excluding temporary appointments) who wasn't a recycled CEO from within the AFL industry? Clearly Pert and Jackson were.

I'm not arguing for or against recycling, just curious.

It might have been something I wrote as a joke and I apologise if that's what you're referring to Andy

Like Jonesy as a midfield coach & Brad Green as President (love them both) not so sure, Iโ€™d prefer someone outside the MFC boys club

Fully understand the thinking here. I'm just not getting the vibe Nicholson is 'boys club'.. if anything strikes me as the type that would put a rocket up them.

I like that

Agree with this. He's also been outside the AFL industry for a while, so probably has different perspectives he can bring.

When I first read @VoiceOfReason 's post, I thought, โ€œBit harsh on Andy @Demonland โ€”no need to throw in the IQ dig just because the upgrade didnโ€™t go smoothly.โ€ But then I saw his follow-up about potentially libellous commentsโ€ฆ and suddenly the sharp tone made a bit more sense. ๐Ÿซฅ

When you read the article, the headline is misleading (understatement). They didn't meet "to discuss the disaster at the Dees" at all.

"But the club was at pains to clarify the pair did not meet to discuss the current coaching situation or Goodwinโ€™s methods. Instead, the club said Smith arranged the meeting so the pair could speak for the first time and get to know each other better.

Smith made clear his strong support for Gawn and his leadership in light of the extraordinary burden he has shouldered in recent years which has included a searing spotlight on the club.

Goodwin continues to have the unwavering support of the Demonsโ€™ captain and his playing group despite their scoring woes."

Same here @DistrACTION Jackson - still waiting too. Might be delayed โ€” Carltonโ€™s still working out which end of the phone to talk into, and Norf are arguing over who gets to use the last working Nokia.

It's Game Day and the Demons will be running out on the field with a new Head Coach, albeit a caretaker, for the first time in 3,060 days when they face the Western Bulldogs at the MCG today. What do you want to see from the Demons in the first match of the Post Simon Goodwin era?

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, weโ€™ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: โ€œThen came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.โ€ Today, weโ€™re back in the same place although oneย difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, โ€œIt was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, โ€ฆโ€ย  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
