Gary Pert Quits as MFC CEO

Featured Replies

The market for AFL CEO’s, or any other CEO for that matter, is small. Digging heels in and going against the grain isn’t a wise strategy from a future employment prospects point of view.

Pert read the room and made the smart decision. He’ll be back in a job soon enough.

don't forget he is on record as saying he intended originally on finishing up mid year in 2025 anyway, so i doubt 6 months salary was any big deal

As a consultant for the potential Caulfield move DC he could be around for some time. He will get more than his 6 month salary.

I thought George had left a couple of years ago to start up his own business. Has he returned to the fold.

George is doing part time fund raising for the club, as well as running his own business.

could well be, od

theoretically though they are trying to wrap up the business case side of it by mid 25

still plenty to do after that of course

[i'm sure they are well aware of the urgency and your impatience] 😁

It became clear after the review that Pert’s job as CEO became untenable, he did the right thing. The problems of the last 18-24 months were real, and we needed to clear the Decks

I have been very impressed with the way Brad Green has handled the situation so far….

After 40 years I don't think it can be called impatient. Incredulous yes.

how about exasperating?

anyway od, think of it as character building

If someone's incompetent or stinking the place up you don't keep them on for 2 months in the same role, nor employ them beyond that period as a consultant.

Pretty clear that Pert hasn't been sacked.

Equally true that a change at the top and some fresh blood isn't unwelcome. Provided we get the right person.

It has been mentioned a number of times already But I want to reiterate how great it is to receive regular email updates from our President that are pleasant, firm, concise informative and timely that actually address our concerns and ease our anxiety. Hard to believe this man was that pimply faced 18 year old kid that kicked 4 goals for us in that win over Carlton in the elimination final in 2000. He has stepped up again when we needed him most.

Agree wholeheartedly. it's only be a few weeks but it feels like Brad's doing a very good job  rebuilding trust among the supporter/membership base

57 years between flags will do that to you ... :-)

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
