Peter Maynard??? Is he the father of you know who?? Say it aint so!

He is indeed the Father of Brayden and Corey yes. Been with Casey for many years.

That connection is why Maynard had strong links to a move to the Dees a few years back.

In another world he joined us, Pendles was knocked out and we won the 2023 flag.

For those who came in late, Peter played eight games for Melbourne in 1980-81, followed by over 200 games at SANFL level and along the way fathered two sons good enough to play AFL.

Photos are up. AJ looks like he is auditioning for Nux's part in Fury Road. Look out Brayden! Some terrific images amongst the ordinaire. Jakie Melksham gets aerial. Young Verrall has muscled up. Plus battle of the tree trunk thighs goes femoral.

If Dees don't have major injury problems, there are going to be a lot of Casey boys upset in not getting a game.

A 186cm, medium defender from the Tassie Devils Coates Talent League side. Should be a bit of a log jam among players vying for places in the Casey team - especially if there are few injuries at Melbourne.

This recruitment appears to be a continuation of Casey’s relationship with North Launceston which current coach Taylor Whitford took to back-to-back premierships in 2018-19. Casey recruited Jay Lockhart from them in 2017 and he was drafted to Melbourne after impressing at VFL level.

Last year, it was announced that Casey had secured North Launceston and Tasmania Devils Under 18s  player Oscar Van Dam who created some interest but didn’t play a game for the club.

Hopefully, young Max Roney can get some games and have an impact for Casey.

Newly recruited Casey Demon, Riley Bonner has secured a job managing Melbourne's academies - father-son and daughter as well as the Next Generation - while also coaching Casey's backline.

In an on line report in the Herald Sun, he said: "I think with Casey if the AFL team stays fit there's always a good bunch of players who come back and play, that'll only make us better."

He has also affiliated with South East  Suburban club Cheltenham.

Meanwhile, delisted Melbourne defender Adam Tomlinson is still without a club for 2025. It's understood that he has spoken to VFL club Sandringham but it might elect to play local football.

I can’t believe that clubs haven’t queued up at his door.

Surely Tomlinson would be a cheap and handy addition to another AFL club??

Wow. That's what I call a cleanout. A lot of last year's regular Casey listed players out or undecided and one or two names not yet confirmed. Paul Amy who reports regularly on the VFL has reported that a few players not on the list have also signed on for 2025 including Noah Yze, still to be confirmed. Definitely will be a tough gig for Casey boys to get games this season.

Really unsure about Tyler Edwards. Like to see him given another deal.
Had 3 seasons at Casey Demons and from Rowville.  23yo small mid.  Excellent young player. Good skill.  Very good VFL player however not quite good enough for the draft. Outside type/wing/mid runner.  Played some good games again in 2024 (18 games) yet not assured of a game this year with the new talent brought in.

Of those retained Casey listed players Kai Windsor and Paddy Cross are potential late bloomers. Kai’s time at Box Hill was cruelled by significant injury and the Corona pandemic.

Paddy Cross’s pathway through Coates League and Nar Nar Goon may have been similarly affected by the covid times too. Standing at 181cm and weighing in at 70kg+. His anticipation matched by agility and speed allow him to get to the ball and win one on one contests.

Mitch Szybkowski has departed for the GWS VFL team, who could be astute judges. Not afraid of the physical stuff. Strongly built but in need of a tank.

Of those yet to be confirmed, fan favourite Harvey Neocleous was handy near goal. Nuclear physicists on the DL boards did get excited, “electrons” when Harvey swooped on the loose bouncing Higgs-Boson Sherrin near the goal square.

KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti
