Well said Clarry ... . umm... I think 🤔..

That was then , this is now and tomorrow yet to come.

If the wonder Boyz can turn back the clock a little and bring it.... be marvellous to see

Hopefully Maysey a little less 'off' in 25..

Just keeping within the context of this being about Oliver, hope all goes well lad. Enjoy your break and look forward to you ripping it up in 25 ;)

Go Dees

That’s weird because I know Michelle Oliver quite well, she works with my mum and has said quite the opposite and the family love Melbourne and Clayton wanted to keep his options open. There has been no disgruntlement ever

Interesting. Will dd36 return serve or has Ttacca just fired an ace?

(Me, I'd like to think so. And this also accords with one of Michelle's social postings.)

Either that or Demonland is going to be responsible for a marriage break up.

I know they love the footy club. I've bumped into them from time to time and have known then since Oliver's under 18's days. They have nothing but love for the footy club.

And good on her saying that, but if the old man is saying otherwise then it's up people to choose what they want to believe.

Simply passing on what's been said.

In the end the club shut it down, but not without a lot of self-inflicted damage that was completely unnecessary.

And a huge amount of media pile-on to add to what has been going on since August.

On the first day of trading every media organisation reported Clarry was being shopped around by Pert possibly to Geelong.

Tom Stewart admitted meeting Clarry when he toured the Cats facility.

Pert declined to scotch the rumours.

After a week of brouhaha Brad Green released a statement saying the Board had met & decided Clarry would not be traded.

Several commentators have called for Pert's resignation over the matter.

Do try & keep up 58er.

Reported by the press, you lost me right there CF.

“Self inflicted” = primarily caused by Geelong’s leaking to the media and Clayton’s management putting pressure on the football club. There’s a huge difference between “shopping around” a player and finding out their value. All clubs like to know what all of their players are worth, even if they don’t trade them, or remotely intend to trade them, fact is these conversations happen about a majority of players every year, even if players do t like it.
The fact this was leaked so heavily has a lot more to do with Geelong and the media trying to force Melbourne’s hand at a weak moment rather than the club self-inflicting anything.

No one was planning to trade Oliver. These private conversations usually stay private, the reasons these didn’t were twofold, destabilise Oliver within the club in the hope you can shake him loose for very little and to attack a seemingly very unpopular Gary Pert.

Interesting how mere weeks after Roffey’s departure the blowtorch turned fully on Pert, almost like there’s people out there with axes to grind against him or something….

If your version of events is true then Oliver was extremely keen to leave the club even before we shopped him around which is a massive issue in itself.

Picket and Dazzle please paint me a picture whereby the CEO of an AFL club would - off their own bat do a ring around to other AFL clubs and offer up their top player. It just beggars belief. I. E - Perty wakes up one day and says to himself, hmmn a bit bored today I wonder what we could get for young Oliver, the FD, President and Board wouldn’t have any problems with me doing this…????

Well there are two versions of this

1 Where these smoke there's fire

2 Smoke and Mirrors, nothing to see here!

I'm in the first camp on this one!

I had a dream last night.

We win the flag next year, with Tracc winning his second Norm Smith, after Clarry won the Brownlow, with Max breaking records with another AA and our pick 5 winning the Rising Star, after JVR wins his first Coleman.

How quickly would all this media garbage last if my dream came true?

Imagine how picks we would get for Petracca and Oliver if that happens?! 😍😍😍

If your version of events is true at the moment when he was at his weakest, with a President who supported him gone and two reviews starting but not organised Pert chose to do something widely seen as his biggest flaw and go rogue on one of the highest profile players at the club after an exit interview against the wishes of the FD, the board and the player himself all at a time when he was most likely to cop a dismissal as a result. Seems likely…

Pert may well have been acting on the will of the footy department. I haven't ruled that out as a possibility at all. It would still be well outside the purview of a CEO's responsibilities and I'd find it pretty disturbing if that is how our club goes about it's business.

And Geelong have way more influence over the media that we do. Plus the pile-on means the gap is even greater.

It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield. The luckless Salem suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions early in the season and, after missing a number of games, he was never at his best. He was also inconvenienced by minor niggles later in the season. This was a blow for the club that sorely needed him to fill gaps in the midfield at times as well as to do his best work in defence.
