We probably agreed not to bid on Kako with either 5 or 9 too, that's a big bonus for Essendon.

That I assume is the sweetener

13 for F1 and 25/28 was not a great deal but this one is okay.

Sounds like a squeeze... expect some complaints from other clubs

Been living under a rock for the last 5 years? Side deals are par for the course now

Brainwave!

We're confident we're going to get Kalani White as a F/S next year and that we'd likely have to burn out first pick anyway for points.

Hope not. 5 and 9 is a nice spot, we need both quality and quantity

The Salem+Tyson vs Josh Kelly conundrum rears it's ugly head

The move is effectively midfield insurance and gives us quality depth in the midfield at the same time (I'm in the 2 x Mids camp and given JT's track history in drafting mids, we're in safe hands)

As others have intimated, Rivers could go back, Petracca predominantly forward etc etc if it all worked out

And many of the highly fancied Mids in the draft are plug-in-and-play types

In an 18 team comp, to get picks 5 & 9 is a dream come true.  List-wise, we're not in bad shape to start off with (fully fit & switched on)

As for the 2025 draft, we could end up in a powerful trading position to get back into the 1st round anyway

It's our little secret then. If it gets out I'll know it was from you!

5 & 9 almost guarantees at least one will be ready to go for 2025, that’s an enormous confidence boost that we might see a changing of the guard.

If both are ready for round 1, we could be a transformed side within a 6 month period - big caveat being Goody and his beloved gameplan

Will this trade go through tomorrow or will they wait until draft night ?
Hopefully another club doesn’t come through and beat our offer!

Tim Lamb will be waiting for Matt Rosa on Monday at 9.00am at AFL Headquarters to sign off the paperwork. I'm sure Tim would be getting there early on Monday morning to ensure another offer comes between now and Monday morning.

Anyway absolutely stoked taking picks 5 and 9 to the draft to get 2 midfielders.

Please remember this is likely pick 6 and 10 after Levi Ashcroft gets to Brisbane, and possible other academies could push pick 10 out as well.

5 and 9 in this draft could completely flip the script

Two mids to supplement our guns, play HF, wing

add excitement and enthusiasm

If we really rate someone that we think Richmond won't take but who won't make it to 5 we could gun for 2 + F1 from North for 5 + 9. North don't really need more mids but could get two talls there.

but if you ignore Levi like most are, its probably 5 and 9

Big deal. They're not available to us anyway so the picks are 5 and 9 in the open draft.

Not a chance that someone doesn't bid on Ashcroft. He is the best player in the draft

So what. He's Brisbane's anyway. It doesn't affect our pick at 5. I'm not sure you really get what's happening here.

Sam McClure: Breaking News; Demons and Essendon caught up in draft tampering allegations.

That old55 loony, has someone let him off the leash again? Always cooking up some bs conspiracy theory.  He even thought Goodwin could coach back in early 2021 - can you believe it? Always talking made-up rubbish.

Set to get it, let's hope so.

And i think it's a brilliant move to get two picks inside the top 10.

Reid, Lalor, Langford, O'Sullivan and I'm starting to warm to Draper as well, any of those would be beautiful

I do. Because Brisbane don't have a top 5 pick. Thus our pick 5 becomes pick 6 if someone in first 5 bids on him (which they will). I'm not sure you really get whats happening...

I'll try to break it down for you. Pick 5 will get access to the next best player that Richmond, North, West Coast and Adelaide don't take.

If one of them bids on Ashcroft and Brisbane match then our pick 6 will get access to the next best player that Richmond, North, West Coast and Adelaide don't take.

You know, the same player in either case ...

For what it's worth, Cal Twomey is one of the few journalists whose info I would take as gospel, especially the draft related stuff

I bet you thats not even his real name.

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
