Hmmm David Teague eh?

Is he any good?

I think he was Carlton coach for a little while. But was he involved with Richmond's Premiership success as an assistant coach?

I would rather we approach Cameron Bruce or Justin Leppitsch or Brett Ratten or even Adam Simpson.

Why?

Did some cringe worthy press conferences when at the Blues and had the reputation for being too soft on the players.  (Players loved him).

Teague train was forwards coach with Adelaide in 2017 when they were absolutely rolling. A few things go their way in the grand final and he’s seen as a genius part of a great forward line.

Things weren’t sustainable at Carlton, they couldn’t defend but the list wasn’t much chop either.

He went in to Richmond to work with Dimma who bailed on him.

3 of those people have jobs and the other is getting paid a fortune by the eagles not to coach.

Teague is exactly who we should hire if we’re looking to play uptempo attacking footy. Chaplin and Bassett can get the defensive game plan right.

Sloane should be a development coach, leadership mentor and work towards a line coaching job.

We need someone with more experience as a line coach (along with Bassett)

I know everyone laughed at your comment but I’m sure they’ll consider someone for the coaching panel that is ready to steer the ship if in the remote possibility Goodwin is sacked mid season. With McQualter gone, Teague would fit that bill.

Teague is apparently an offensive minded coach which is something we lacked this year.

To be fair, 'that list' was only half there at the time, with the full wave of the Silvagni mass recruitment of NQRs occurring just before, and then having its impact during Teague's tenure. Carlton had a 2-win season prior to his arrival.

Walsh, De Koning, McKay and Curnow were all still very young, Cerra and Acres hadn't arrived, and, let's be frank, Carlton even now are very star-dependent and brittle. Their best season since Ratten is 13 wins and a draw, and they only bagged two more wins than us this year.

Carlton were a mentally broken shambles when Teague took over, while the fans and coteries thought they should be challenging for a premiership because of their 'epic' best 6. It isn't as if he did a Paul Roos turnaround job or anything, but he shouldn't be marked too harshly for managing a 40% win rate with the hand he was given.

I do think he'd be an excellent, calm and deep thinking assistant coach who might be a very effective word in the ear of Goodwin.

Don't think so. I just feel like Teague has a certain non-threatening persuasiveness which would be priceless for a coach so completely under attack that even as reigning premier people were actively undermining him.

I'm also starting to find it funny to see a growing picture of the problems at the club coming from practically every direction except the coach, but every faction is keen to keep the coach dangling on a frayed string. That's for another thread but also very much something Teague can relate to.

Ha! I guess the big risk is Teague will tell Goodwin how much happier he was as soon as he got out of the position of 'head coach of a dysfunctional club'.

So maybe Teague comes in as ball movement and midfield coach, Bassett to the backs and Chaplin to the forwards. Chaplin was our forward coach when we were the highest scoring team in 2018.

It then becomes a very different looking game style we're playing, but with better defensive personnel than we had in 2018.

I think we should have a word to Rutten. Caracella but I think he’s back at Richmond. Would kill for Lappin but little chance. I’d put a line through Leppitsch. 

I like the idea of Jimmy Allen even if he had about 53 disposals against me.

Jimmy Allen was a natural ball magnet whatever level he played.

A gun footballer at suburban/semi professional level.

    UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

    Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft.     Demonland Trackwatchers ventured down to Gosch's Paddock for the final week of training for the 1st to 4th Years until they are joined by the rest of the senior squad for Preseason Training Camp in Mansfield next week.     A couple of Demonland Trackwatchers braved the rain and headed down to Gosch's paddock to bring you their observations from the second day of Preseason training for the 1st to 4th Year players.
