Hmmm David Teague eh?

Is he any good?

I think he was Carlton coach for a little while. But was he involved with Richmond's Premiership success as an assistant coach?

I would rather we approach Cameron Bruce or Justin Leppitsch or Brett Ratten or even Adam Simpson.

Are they available?

Why?

Did some cringe worthy press conferences when at the Blues and had the reputation for being too soft on the players.  (Players loved him).

Teague train was forwards coach with Adelaide in 2017 when they were absolutely rolling. A few things go their way in the grand final and he’s seen as a genius part of a great forward line.

Things weren’t sustainable at Carlton, they couldn’t defend but the list wasn’t much chop either.

He went in to Richmond to work with Dimma who bailed on him.

3 of those people have jobs and the other is getting paid a fortune by the eagles not to coach.

Teague is exactly who we should hire if we’re looking to play uptempo attacking footy. Chaplin and Bassett can get the defensive game plan right.

does this mean sloane said no?

Sloane should be a development coach, leadership mentor and work towards a line coaching job.

We need someone with more experience as a line coach (along with Bassett)

Will be mfc interim coach by round 8 the way things are going.

I know everyone laughed at your comment but I’m sure they’ll consider someone for the coaching panel that is ready to steer the ship if in the remote possibility Goodwin is sacked mid season. With McQualter gone, Teague would fit that bill.

Teague is apparently an offensive minded coach which is something we lacked this year.

zero finals appearances with that list?

hm....

To be fair, 'that list' was only half there at the time, with the full wave of the Silvagni mass recruitment of NQRs occurring just before, and then having its impact during Teague's tenure. Carlton had a 2-win season prior to his arrival.

Walsh, De Koning, McKay and Curnow were all still very young, Cerra and Acres hadn't arrived, and, let's be frank, Carlton even now are very star-dependent and brittle. Their best season since Ratten is 13 wins and a draw, and they only bagged two more wins than us this year.

Carlton were a mentally broken shambles when Teague took over, while the fans and coteries thought they should be challenging for a premiership because of their 'epic' best 6. It isn't as if he did a Paul Roos turnaround job or anything, but he shouldn't be marked too harshly for managing a 40% win rate with the hand he was given.

I do think he'd be an excellent, calm and deep thinking assistant coach who might be a very effective word in the ear of Goodwin.

Any historic connection between them?

Don't think so. I just feel like Teague has a certain non-threatening persuasiveness which would be priceless for a coach so completely under attack that even as reigning premier people were actively undermining him.

I'm also starting to find it funny to see a growing picture of the problems at the club coming from practically every direction except the coach, but every faction is keen to keep the coach dangling on a frayed string. That's for another thread but also very much something Teague can relate to.

Ha! I guess the big risk is Teague will tell Goodwin how much happier he was as soon as he got out of the position of 'head coach of a dysfunctional club'.

Ball movement is his speciality so makes sense.

So maybe Teague comes in as ball movement and midfield coach, Bassett to the backs and Chaplin to the forwards. Chaplin was our forward coach when we were the highest scoring team in 2018.

It then becomes a very different looking game style we're playing, but with better defensive personnel than we had in 2018.

I think we should have a word to Rutten. Caracella but I think he’s back at Richmond. Would kill for Lappin but little chance. I’d put a line through Leppitsch.

I like the idea of Jimmy Allen even if he had about 53 disposals against me.

Jimmy Allen was a natural ball magnet whatever level he played.

A gun footballer at suburban/semi professional level.

  • PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

With both sides precariously positioned ahead of the run home to the finals, only one team involved in Sunday’s clash at the Adelaide Oval between the Power and the Demons will remain a contender when it’s over.  On current form, that one team has to be Melbourne which narrowly missed out on defeating the competition’s power house Collingwood on King's Birthday and also recently overpowered both 2024 Grand Finalists. Conversely, Port Adelaide snapped out of a four-game losing streak with a win against the Giants in Canberra. Although they will be rejuvenated following that victory, their performances during that run of losses were sub par and resulted in some embarrassing blow out defeats.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
