We need a good back up to Gawn. Look what happened with the lions and Darcy Fort.

Yeah, so that would be Campbell.

Similar if not better.

Campbell's VFL numbers are a lot better then Forts just fyi.

Yeah but I've seen both Campbell and Fort at AFL level and I reckon Fort's demonstrated much more capable ability at the higher level.

But I still am in favour of us taking him, assuming there isn't anyone better available who is willing to be that player on our list.

Numbers might be more a reflection of the Lions deep ruck depth. Campbell’s VFL form is excellent though.

The age is the only concern with Campbell, he’s nearly 2 years older than Fort, but hopefully he’s got a year in him at least.

Grundy was on top at stages in the ruck contests but gave away some silly frees as he’s prone to do and the Lions being so on top with ball movement made the rucks most irrelevant. Grundy was unable to test Fort out around the ground. Be it injury, fitness or otherwise Brodie hasn’t been able to really get on top of anyone for most of the back half of the year.

If Fox are correct let me be the first to say welcome aboard Tom Campbell you are most welcome at the Dee’s, and I say to MFC that was the biggest hole that we had to fill going into 2025.!!!😁👍

Fox is correct, Tom is my next door neighbour whom I tried to get him to Demonland 5 years ago , after he was sacked by the Dogs.He will be doing a medical this week at the club, but he WILL be at Demonland .He is looking forward to working with Gawn.

He will make a great understudy , but he will be an excellent clubman and coach of the younger ones.

We forget, Tom started and worked with Will Minson and helped develop Tim English at the Dogs, He went to North Melb under Will Minson, understudy to Todd Goldstein and helped to develop talls  in Larkey and Cobden along with Xerri. He left and became understudy to Marshall and helped in development of Heath ,Haynes etc.He is a great clubman ,winning St Kilda’s best clubman last year and never played a senior game. Not a champion footballer but a champion bloke whom will give his best, and develop the young ones…They will look up to him, respect him and great for the culture and development of our young talls especially with Stafford going. He will be a great assistant to our new midfield and new ruck/ forward coach moving forward.Only downer is we live in Kensington , along way from Cranbourne. He has been working at the AFL after being recommended by Laura Kane..Great credential’s for us to rebuild, in my opinion.

Don’t know Campbell from a bar of soap, but is he any better than Fullarton? But I still don’t understand why we are looking for a back up ruck, when what we need is a forward pocket ruckman who can play 23 games so that Roo doesn’t have to ruck. Surely!

I agree. We are also connected to Leek Aleer from GWS. Maybe with the idea of turning him into a forward ruck. A bit short at 194cm.

Back up ruck!! Will help Casey and give Maxy a chop out during the year

Oh yeah, I remember watching him say this on mid week show few weeks back.

I remember him saying that it was based on his own personal opinion and not any Intel that he had.

Tom Campbell. Let me think.
33 year old. 4 games in the last 3 years 😭😭😭.  There’s desperate. And there’s desperation.  This is beyond extreme desperation.

A touch dramatic here. Its a back up ruck role. As prime example on the weekend, as a back up ruck you only need to be solid and competitive to allow the mids to go to work.

Yes plenty of others could play the exact role and be younger, fitter, stronger.  This “33yo” Campbell move is 12 months at best.
Just for the record.  Much rather try to grab Liam Reidy from Dockers (204cms, 24yo) or give a shot to Cooper Keogh from Coburg VFL (200cms, 25yo, averaged 21 possessions, 45 hitouts and 5 tackles in VFL).

Rebuilding on a 33yo who may play a game or two but will coach our Verrall and ? Instead.
No thanks hi for the Boyd ruck star from Norwood who can play up forward also. Go back to a Jacko/ Gawn style arrangement and both are happy.

Keep it to yourself and not your continuing snide personal attacks.  I have an opinion and can post my opinion. If you want to be a troll, go elsewhere.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
