I can’t decide whether to cash out my Lions bet. Got on them when they were 26-1 and the cash out is tidy but only 40%. Tempted to ride it out. Lions are on some run. Feels like it might be their year

    Sydney Swans and Brisbane Lions fans are facing Melbourne airfares at more than twice the normal rates, forcing some to contemplate driving as cheaper places on trains fill up ahead of the first all-interstate final since 2006.

    As of 1pm AEST on Monday, flights leaving either city on Friday and returning on the Sunday of the grand final weekend were around double the cost of the same trips the following week for each of the three main carriers.

    Excluding flights on its low-cost carrier Jetstar, the starting price for a round-trip from Sydney with Qantas was $1016, compared with $499 the following weekend. Virgin return flights from Sydney were cheaper, at $684, but flights from Brisbane started at $1360, more than double what they were the week after.

    On the Jetstar route to Brisbane, return flights started at an eye-watering $1807, more than three times the amount for flights the next week. Non-stop Jetstar flights are now also unavailable for returning to Brisbane on Sunday, 29th September.

    Firstly Leigh Matthews was chosen last year, surely there could had been another choice,.

    Mills being ruled out makes sense. Sydney would have learnt from playing sam reid injured 2 years ago.

    I'll feel bad for either coach that loses. Longmire has the 1 flag for 4 gf appearances & his team have been the best this season. He needs to win another one for his legacy.

    Fagan losing 2 in a row would be gut wrenching.

    I wouldn't feel too bad @dees189227. The losing coach will still feel better than sixteen other coaches whose teams failed in 2024.

    Very wise and true.

    But gee, that pain and hurt of losing a grand final is like no other. I know others feel different and would be happy just to make the grand final but as a fan, that experience of climbing the mountain and having so much go right only for it to fail at the last hurdle. It's a bit much.

    I was fortunate enough to travel from Tassie to WA - they had to put on extra flights. Got in early - the week before as I was confident they would make the big one. Then the prices skyrocketed.

    Smith was leading all awards at the time and Matthews just came up from behind and punched him. Smith was never the same as a player after that.

    Some of the stuff that went on in those days makes you cringe

    Nearly every team had their thugs and thug acts happened in numerous games.  Often unpunished as 'video' evidence was not allowed to be called upon until years later

    e.g. Balme king hitting 3 Carlton players in the '73 GF might carry a lifelong ban these days

    Just crossing the line to play back then took a special type of courage.  Yet players such as Robbie Flower managed to not get king hit.  That was a skill in itself back then!!

      Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

      The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

      A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term.
