Ripper day - 18 marks - the most a Melbourne player has ever taken.

Here's hoping he puts in as stellar effort next week.

wow what a game by greenie!

some might say that many of those possessions were uncontested, but the point is that if you're going to have uncontested possessions, then make them damaging possessions...today he certainly influenced the game and was best on ground by far! 2 heroic marks really inspired the team, his kicking into the forward line was terrific.

great all round game from him today

Greeny did everything today, was really good when the heat was on in the last 15 minutes.

Only complaint from me was he didnt snag the 1st goal!

I had him in the cheersquad comp.

I salute you today Greeny you where exceptional.

Most certainly if not Brock, then Green as our next captain.

He was inspirational last year when captaining the side as well.

I agreed with this when (I think) Jaded brought it up last year as well.......

We all think that McLean will probably be the next captain, but is he actually ready, physically or mentally, to take that particular mantel yet?

I don't know and neither do we. But at the very least there has to be another option, and Brad Green could well be it.

To me when he plays like this Green has always given a very clear indication of being able to take that next step. Of course we all want him to play like this a hell of a lot more often, but he was brilliant and inspirational today and his presence was everywhere. And his field kicking looked pretty damn accurate as well.

Well done Brad, a game definitely worth savouring :D !!!

Those 2 marks today should put to bed some misguided thoughts that Green is soft. He clearly goes when it is his turn.

But honestly you have to wonder just how it is that this furfy is still doing the rounds. He is anything but and those marks were fantastic.

Walls actually said at some point after one of the other commentators mentioned the article and the fact that maybe he fired them up, that maybe now their (Green, Bruce and Johnstone) trade value's was now in the order of a first round pick. The conversation was very short and sharp though.

As for some of us feeling the need to trade someone new this week.....

There will always be someone to kick the hell out of, and if not then there are those around here who will just go and find someone.

The only captain in recent times I can recall who was that young was Wayne Carey and I agree that it would be a bit much to expect Brock to captain a side that early. I would expect that Neitz is almost certain still to be captain next year but name Brock as Vice-Captain as have a real leadership structure. This idea of the players voting in a leadership group each year obviously isn't working because half the group each year get replaced when others have a good year.

He's finally stepped up to the plate & delivered. Where have you been all this time Brad. Don't go hiding again after this, the fans now know what standard you can deliver at & should expect nor tolerate anything less from you.

The other way around mate, if they can play like that then ask yourself why have'nt they. It's no use having players who can play, but don't put in. WHY? If they don't keep up this higher standard to which they're capable, then they should go & we'll find others who'll put in for the club.

Good grief, can't we just congratulate our guys for standing up in yesterdays match, without sending them packing in the same breath?

Lets just remember guys that one hot day doesn't make a summer. lets no get to ahead ourselves.

But let me just say that bulletins i have posted and supporters agreed on in recent weeks in regards to player roles were finally put into place yesterday with great sucess.

Green as a loose man across half back in a Goddard roll

Bate at CHF (Bate will be a better version of Ryan O'Keefe)

And sespite not as good as last week Biz back in our defence. Absolutley awesome early before making a couple errors late.

And how good was Bell. Havent seen a Melb defender dominate a dangerous defender like that in years. Welsh wasnt given an inch. AWESOME WORK BELLY.....

I'm with you Y_M. Sure it was a great game for both he and Bruce. But it's only 1 game. Sure give credit where credit's due, but let's not forget we are 1-9. Hopefully both string a few good games together now. Coz we should not be in the bottom 8 and lets not be weak and blame injuries.

After 1 game we are singing their praises and calling for them to be captain, and whilst they deserve their praise this week, many games this season they didn't play like they were leaders of our club.

Whilst so many are so widely applauding Bruce and Green's efforts, lets send out a huge cheerio to Danners as well. Well done Neale. I mean Bruce and Green are being suggested as Neita's heir in this thread. So it's only fitting for me, going with the trend of this thread, to suggest that Daniher be offered a 3-year extension on his contract. Thoroughly deserved Neale.

With the injuries we have had there is no way in hell we should be in the top 8. Anyone who believes that we should, is in fairy land. With the comp being so even, you lose 5 of your best 10, you will lose 9 out of 10. That said we should have been more competitive in some of the games, as we should be 4-6 because all of those close games we had a very good chance to win, and a bit of poise and leadership we would have won.

As for Bruce, well he would be leader our b&f this year just in front of bell, he has been our best player, so he has 'strung a few games together', and had some of his mates been up and running e.g. the bloke who was licking the pres' face at the brownlow last year, we might just be in a better position.

anyone who thinks that was a one off from bruce knows nothing about football and certainly hasnt watched our first 10 rounds...

he has done that every week, though in previous weeks he has not had support.

green too has been pretty good this season without setting the world on fire... green perhaps should dominate games more though

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
