John Demonic 5,988 Posted September 20, 2024 Posted September 20, 2024 (edited) It's become a pretty boring sport when the Dees aren't winning tbh Even the neutral game close finishes don't raise the heart rate like they used to, all the teams are a bit meh, don't care for any of them. And the prelim matchups and results are just groundhog day over and over for the large majority of the time. Euro 2024 was far more exciting Edited September 20, 2024 by John Demonic 7 Quote

The same people saying the same thing for 9 months to provoke a response Im beginning to doubt the poster is even a Demons fan. We know the story, Grundy didn’t work so we sent him packing, Jordon not best 22 so he left, fair enough Can we move on? or say the same stuff every week Same people probably said this about Steven Armstrong. But I agree they are pivotal to their overall team. JJ as a tagger and Grundy in the ruck. Grundy and Sweet broke even imv. Butters & Rozee won the footy but didn’t lower than eyes kicking inside fwd50 (aka MFC style) so their impact was less. Quote

Dee Viney Intervention 2,026 Posted September 20, 2024 Posted September 20, 2024 My take from last nights game is that whoever Sydney’s forward line coach is I hope we are right into them with a godfather offer. The amount of space and separation they create for their forwards, the running lanes they create for good high percentage looks at looks at goal on a very small ground is amazing. They are a very well structured forward line. Quote

Euro 2024 was far more exciting To be honest, I think the AFL has totally missed a trick and doesn't quite understand the secret sauce they had their hands on. They've opened up the game, it's never been quicker or more skilful, but it's far less engaging to watch. Teams just march the ball down the field and the structures lead to so many over the back goals you may as well be watching a training run. What made the sport so unmissable was the toughness, the tension, the unpredictability and haphazard-ness (if that's a word). Where it came down to crucial contests, high pressure, scrap and the will to win. Yes it's messy, but viewers respond to visible/visceral effort and commitment far more than kicking skills. The combo of that toughness/contest in a 360 degree game was very unique to our game. There are still games and moments that fit this mould, but far less as the rules have encouraged teams towards the opposite style which is being set up to succeed. Last night he played the Melky stopping role, having 8 possessions and no scoreboard impact, while his opponent wasn’t fantastic, but still had plenty of ball for a key defender. If Parker came to us next year and wasn’t better than say Melky doing the same role, or couldn’t make our midfield and didn’t make the side, everyone would be blasting our List Management. He has been a great player, but with age has slowed down and while he might have some good footy left, is he who you would be chasing, rather than a younger player who might not be getting opportunities, for a longer term benefit to us. As a hypothetical if you could have say Parker, Kennedy, Parfitt or a Sheldrick type (younger mid not getting a game), for the same cost, who would you choose? 2 Quote
spirit of norm smith 16,679 Posted September 20, 2024 Posted September 20, 2024 @picket fence“Grundy was sensational in the Ruck“ We must have watched a different game. He just probably broke even with Sweet. Shaded for hitouts. Gave away 6 free kicks where Sweet was too strong for him. Zero contested marks. Grundy was ok. 1 1 Quote
