I know it doesn't work like this, but GWS owe us for Toby Bedford.  Quite a similar situation in a way, only Bedford was getting games and showing promise at AFL level.

Still spewing we let that kid go so easily.

he was out of contract… and we offered him a three year deal. So while I disagree with the use of the word  “ easily” I’m spewing too.

Yeah, fair enough.  I forgot all the specifics.  Even though he was out of contract, that still meant GWS had to trade for him yeah?  Otherwise we could have told them we'd let him put himself up for the pre-season draft?   I really wish a few clubs would follow through on this threat some more as I feel players are really too free to walk out on clubs willy nilly at the moment.

McCartney will probably drag this into next week to prove they tried to keep him.

I don't think it's posturing. GWS has lost the battle (pun intended) on all of Perryman, Cumming and Peatling, and had already given up on Haynes. They're in the window, that’s a lot of support talent to lose in one year and they don't appear to have gained anyone. I suspect they genuinely want to hold Derksen.

They have form of keeping players in contract who want to leave for personal circumstance. Bobby Hill a good example.

Cam McCarthy too. He even moved back to WA and sat the year out from football.

He doesn't play in ay of those three guy's positions.

Perryman and Cumming both play medium back for GWS, Derksen can play tall back, Haynes definitely plays tall back. Losing all four gives them less flexibility and options to shuffle back there.

It's a bit like if we lost Salem, Rivers, Sparrow and Tomlinson last year and Disco requested a trade.

Yep. Suppose we have to hope his family needs are sufficient to sway GWS.

Ok Giants, keep a non-best 22 player who doesn't want to be there against his will. We move on

Anyone know if Wade has been spotted in Melbourne home hunting?

Currently with AMW atm, partner is back in Darwin with the 3 little ones while Wade is locking in future

GWS pretty adamant that they won't trade him.

Shut the door in this one.

If Derksen isn’t available it sounds like we’ve got SFA to look forward to for the rest of the trade period

Here’s to the pick swaps 🙌

Surely Tim Lamb can’t survive a fourth consecutive year of doing SFA in the trade period ? We’re not improving

Tim Lamb is not being helped by our club being run like a circus. He can approach players and managers. He can make offers. But ultimately if nobody wants to come here, what can he do?
We have Houston on the hook, now he’s gone cold on us. We offered Peatling a good deal and he chose Adelaide.
It’s a sad state of affairs right now, as we are so far from a destination club.

I’m fairness to Lamb he had Houston until the club self imploded. He’s not got much to work with right now

If we have 3 picks inside 30 I think I’m ok with using the Grundy late 2nd round pick and marginally overpaying for a guy who’s a third. Assuming we have no one else available.

See if the Giants blink late.

They’re talking about getting Stringer and Shiel, if they do that they’re at least feeling better about their net ins/outs over trade period.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
