Poor kid, driving over 3,500 kilometers only to discover the NT doesn't have a team yet. That's like a whole year of his MFC contract just to pay off the petrol.

In America I reckon moving for college is a big factor in people's preparedness to move cities and states.

That and historically labor has followed industry - for example black families leaving the south for work in Chicago, LA and Detroit.

And housing costs have historically been stable and affordable, which reduces barriers to moving. That's changing, with America now experiencing a housing crisis of the sort ours kicked of 25 years ago.

Interestingly, i read an article the other day that said Americans are now moving less than at any time in history.

Yes, as someone who grew up in the states I can verify that this is pretty spot on. We leave for college at 18 and that’s kind of when you’re supposed to fully step into adulthood and out of the family home.

The pandemic paired with cost of living has definitely changed that a bit. But even so it’s been an adjustment for me living in Melbourne to see people living with parents into their late 20s and to not see it as a bad thing. We are told you’re supposed to be out when you finish Uni and into your own life and being at home any longer means you’re unsuccessful/lazy/can’t make it on your own.

Add it to the list of the many absurd aspects of American individualism/work culture.

That's pretty messed up to report that a players mother is still alive when she has passed away.

Can’t pretend I’m any sort of expert on indigenous culture but the woman who died was Kozzy’s “old mum” who was in fact his aunt (Byron’s sister).

His birth mother is still alive.

He never said he was going to leave or wanted to leave

And now he isn’t leaving!

What a scoop!

What was the point of this tidbit? Is Ralph suggesting that only indigenous players can offer each other support? 🙄

Ralph said OTC yesterday that Kozzy would like to have more indigenous players on the list.

I remember last year there were reports we were courting Liam Henry with that being a bit of a motivator. Not sure why it fell through.

Kozzi sure knows how to relax in the off season. A Drive to Darwin with a crying baby in the back

It really feels like a total MFC pile on by reporters at the moment.

Must be incredibly annoying for the players as well

He needs to get his facts right.  I totally trust @WalkingCivilWar report that Ardu's sister lives in Melbourne not Kozzie's sister as Ralph reported.  Also, iirc Kozzie's mother sadly passed away in SA several years ago where as he says she lives 3 hrs from Perth.

Ardu’s sister does indeed live in Melbourne and spends much time with them.

I heard this morning that Kozzie’s sister is planning on moving here too. Idk if that’s true but perhaps that’s to what Jon Ralph was referring.

Shoutout to whomever it was on here who just KNEW from the get-go Kozzie was leaving and they’re like, See… I said this would happen and now it’s coming to fruition and then it transpires that no, Kozzie ain’t goin’ nowhere. Huge LOLZ to be had 😂 And if I was petty (NOT of the Harrison variety but of the picayune variety) I’d quote such a post.

Media:

Demons in CRISIS!!!!!!

Players left right and centre want our of the club!!!!!

Peteacca, ANB (quick release that info) and Kozzie all want out !!!!!!!

Reality:

Petracca stays. Koz stays.

Nibbla goes, but is at pains to say how much he loves his teamates and the MFC.

And mutiple players (including several future stars who didnt need to extend now, a respected senior player and our skipper) recommit in the last two to three months.

Reality:

Three of the Tigers five best  players want out - Bolton, Baker and Rioli.

And all three will almost certainly leave.

Even in the context of tbe rigers being in rebuild mode, that’s huge -particularly given all three are young.

Imagine if at the start of goody's tenure tracc, oliver and Max all left the club

And losing two senior Aboriginal players can't help in terms of support for young Aboriginal recruits, or trading in Aboriginal players for that matter.

People keen to get rid of Simon Goodwin should be careful what they wish for - they'll get a package exit deal.

Interesting to see 20-30 upvotes on any comment wanting Goodwin sacked over on the melbournefc reddit page. Maybe it's the impatience of a younger demographic, wanting the sugar hit of a new coach thinking its the missing piece. Maybe Having not lived through the pain of the 70s and 80's or even the 2010's...  they've got  no understanding of how quickly it can be gone for good, or at least until a new generation rises decade/s later.

Goody has earnt another year at least to right the ship, some of his assistants perhaps not. But that's not really new news.

Gravel! Awsh, it's a good time for some these days. Nice life if you can 'ave it, ey. Prolly washed it down with fresh bitumen, you did.

Oh, I'm a loyal man and a Demon through and through, but I'm not too proud to tell ya that if them Magpies came to me with a proper bag o' gravel and a contract I'd be out the door faster than a rash on a knee, I would.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
