Agree.

Who remembers the 'Kruezer cup' match? Where both sides (Demons &  Blues) were trying to lose. Blues left Travis Johnston to run riot ...42 possessions from memory. Demons won, so Carlton got pick #1, which was Kruezer.

Typical for those years. TJ fantastic skills, lazy, laconic, runs riot when he wanted in a game that was of no consequence.

melbourne won but in reality lost.
In those times when we tried to lose we failed. Terrible times best not look back look forward

21 and 25. I would take that as long as they are not bookends.

I hate playing the Pies for so many reasons, and now you can add a legitimate fear of one of our players dying to the list.

Gus, Trac, who will it be tonight? Max I suppose.

Is this that thing where the umpire has to stand on one leg?

I hate myself for thinking this, but long term are we better off losing and getting a higher draft pick? Suns and Saints could go past us on the ladder all going well.

It’s a win win game for mine. I want to see 100% effort and if that gets us over the line great, if not I’ll take the pick. Although I’d like us to be in the middle band for next years draw. All the big box clubs are there and they’re the best games for us the supporters and for the club wanting prime time slots. We’re going to enjoy winning the flag next year.

The phrase "It couldn't get worse" has never filled me with confidence. Call it MFCSS but it doesn't work for me.

All i will say is “go dees”. We will be there (hopefully not getting too wet), however I really hope for a win for our final game to ride some positive momentum into the pre-season. Hopefully see a few of you there (FWIW I am 2m tall, have a beard and a full mouth of teeth - assume not many people will match this description at the G tonight if any Deamonlander wants to say hi).

Twelve hours to kick-off. Time enough to get in a few chapters of Thinking, Fast and Slow by the recently deceased Nobel prize-winning behavioral scientist Daniel Kahneman and ponder the mental juxtaposition created by the contradictory desire for instant gratification weighed against longer-term goal-setting and its potential promise of greater future rewards as disrupted by a lack of concrete details on the exact timeframe of our own personal demise, which becomes further complicated again for those of us who remain childless or have a lifestyle profile which could be classed as 'high risk' but still boast a full set of teeth, in all providing for an interesting metaphor for the Melbourne Football Club as its players line up for the first bounce in a dead Friday night rubber at the MCG.

Or I could just read the Collingwood forums for a while to kill some time.

Go Dees!

Hnmmm sounds like something I came across when I was a kid! Anyone remember

Incredible that any of the teams currently in positions 5 to 8 could potentially finish anywhere between top-4 or missing the 8 altogether!  What a bizarre season.

Wanna make sure Daicos doesn’t get Brownlow votes - might make a difference…..

Looking forward to some atrocious football* from the 10th to 18th teams.

*This may include limited one way running facilitating enhanced scoring.

For the last time in season 2024.

It’s game day baby. Pumped!

Get to the G tonight to farewell Nibbler and BBB. Two premiership heroes.

Go Dees.

Takes the saying 'legs 11' to a whole new level. If you google the great man, apparently his last known weight is 111kgs. He's to a 111 point win over these mongrellls. Dad jokes 10111.

Need ANB to do a number on him again. Hopefully means the Bont might win it for once.

Well I'm torn.
Want an earlier draft pick but also wanna thump the filth.

Draft picks are a bit of a lottery. Beating the Pies would be glorious. I say let’s thump the bastards.

Sydney has to be the worst minor premier in the history of the competition. Not only did they lose to the wooden spooner, they also had a 100+ point loss in there.

I want to win this for all the supportive d/landers and fans after a tough season. And especially for WCW and her wonderful contribution thru this site and the Demonarmy.Lets go DEES belt the [censored] out of this mob of pretenders.(and afew backhanders to you know who,the dirty [censored] and a knee into their captain)

Tonight I’m bringing my two 5 year old (almost 6) grandsons to their 2nd game of footy. One parent of each is also coming (my kids).  We would love to sit with the cheer squad. Is there room and can we do this with general admission tickets?

Both boys love Tommy McDonald.  We fear there is a chance it’s his last game.

Didn't they lose 6 in a row?

@WalkingCivilWar

Quasi Dead rubber or not it would be nice to officially end the Pies season even if it means denying them the 180+ point win that they need.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?
