But not forgotten, he stood tall when it mattered. I still remember JB’S call, Benny Brown after Fritsch kicked back to back goals.

Bugger it, I’m going to watch the GF highlights now.

I always thought JB got a little joy out of that one 🙂

If we delist/retire as we expect how many list spots would we have?

I would guess more than usual and we need to trade in a couple as well as going to the draft?

Luker Kentfield

LOL, he has been at the club for 3 months.

Did you just look at the playing list, see a name you didn't recognise and thought yep, he'll do?

I've tried to point out before that the average annual turnover per season for both successful and non-successful clubs sits close to eight players or more, the number of which doesn't provide a reliable indicator for the year ahead. I think we'll have a similar figure as to open spots this time around, despite our list profile and 2024 failures.

Best full Year McDonald has played since 2018 - he'd definitely play on for me.  With that said, he'd also be a great fit for a developing team like Nth for experience, leadership and training standards.

I would be very disappointed if we uprooted an 18 year old from his life in WA, relocated him to Melbourne for his chance in the AFL, then sent him home without even offering a preseason.  Kentfield should be given a chance.

Ben Brown, Lachie Hunter, Josh Schache, Ollie Sestan and Joel Smith, with ANB being traded IMHO.

18 year olds need to show something in the vfl to have a chance at getting contract extensions

I love how you  begin a post asking for everyone’s thoughts then facepalm people expressing their thoughts.

A form of internet gaslighting.

Just admit you had no idea who Kentfield was when you bolded his name and we can move on.

I expect at least 7 list exits at the end of the season - Brayshaw, Hunter, Schache, Tomlinson, Smith, ANB and B.Brown. The good thing there is that they are all senior listed players so that gives us a lot of flexibility for new acquisitions.

I hope we retain all our Rookies and give them further time to develop - K.Brown, Kentfield, Verrall, Sestan, AMW (B), KFW (B) and Melksham and Hore who add value and depth. I think we'll be looking to elevate at least a couple of Rookies to free space on that list for more speculation and Noah Yze, Ricky Mentha. I think AMW, K.Brown and Verrall are the elevation candidates.

Do elevations to the senior list have to come with a minimum contract length? Or could we merely offer Melksham a further year, but on the senior list? AMW should definitely be elevated, so agree there, I could get behind being elevated, but think Melksham is the stronger candidate and more likely to play.

Good question I'm not sure, but shouldn't God know these things?

Id keep Tomo if he wanted to stay but he is a backup player when everyone is fit, so will prob leave for a North or St Kilda where he would get a game every week. Tall backs are looking a bit old/fragile now, can we rely on May and TMac to play full seasons anymore? Need some strengthening up there.

It doesn’t seem like he has shown anything, I understand it’s harsh but clubs don’t keep blokes if they are no chance of making it

Kye declase was gone in 6 months after playing decent in the vfl

Tomlinson will go

For his sake I hope he gets a deal somewhere else where he can be best 22.

While not a perfect player by any means, he's certainly good enough to play more regularly than he has with us.

26 yr old …7 yrs older than Luker

Sestan is worth persisting with

Surely it depends a bit on if the fitness guys believe if Ollie has more scope for physical development and endurance - if so he should stay, if not, no.

Luker has come from zero preseason and obviously JT saw something.  I believe he did a bit of ruck work last weekend.  Anyone see how he went?

Sestan is 50/50.  I agree only the internal footy staff know what he’s capable of.  He has good footy IQ and showed some extra run in 3-4 games.  However in other games, he went missing.  Wait and see!!

I assume we will just roll Melksham over to another 1 year deal?

sounds strange but it's a lot of experience likely out the door this off season, perhaps we need to have a look at a couple of older guys coming back in.

I was wondering how the poster came to form the opinion that Luker should be delisted. Watching Casey? Watching Luker train? Then I read your post, and now I no longer wonder.

If they are bolded I think they will be delisted/retired.

Kynan Brown

Kyah Farris-White

Marty Hore

Lachie Hunter

Luker Kentfield

Tom McDonald

Jake Melksham

Andy Moniz-Wakefield

Josh Schache

Ollie Sestan

Joel Smith

Adam Tomlinson

Will Verrall

Thoughts?

Nooo Noooo    stay for McDonald, Verrall,  Monitz- Wakefield and Hore.  Heck you have delisted 30% OF OUR 2024 LIST.

It's like commissioning someone to do an ice sculpture, they bring in this big block of ice, chisel one piece of it and then get told they're fired.

WHY HAVE THEY NOT SIGNED Nor Selected  Andy Moniz-Wakefield THIS KID CAN REALLY PLAY IS THIS ANOTHER Blunder

I guess so: Verrall and K Brown

Barring trades for better talls we’ve got to keep one of the Tom’s (T Mc the obvious preference). Got to keep Melk.

I’d love to keep Marty Hore, but his body hasn’t done him any favours this year. Probably have to see how trade week pans out.

This is far from a promising group of young players. Kynan and Verrell we probably sign on. AMW and Sestan I’d be just as happy to leave them out of contract until October and see how they go tank wise with a 6 week offseason running block.

Not impressed by AMW? I am, very

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
