Seriously? Running quickly after the ball carrier ,who knows you're there and has time to steady and dispose , is basically wasting the time of the stats man.

Week after week

There's a lot of upside I guess

He had a bad game, but the players all got around him early in the last quarter when he did some good things.

Stolen from a post on Twitter, but this a great pick up.

“Trac spent months in Queensland then conveniently avoided this away trip when so many of the injured players travelled, and our twos were up here too. Today was a very ‘whole club’ vibe. None of this is reflecting very well on him. This is a direction, and he’s not in on it.”

My very good mail has it that Trac wasn't happy with this initial press release after his injury. It was too footy centric where he would have prefered a bit more sympathy towards the seriousness of the injury and that footy is taking a back seat whilst he concentrates on his health and the timeline will look after itself. This on top of everything else this year has led to leaks from his management, particularly wanting to play for a club with a bigger following so he can play in front of bigger crowds and set himself up more after footy.

He's been alone with his thoughts for too long and not been around the club. He needs a cuddle and reassurance and we'll get him back on side. He will be held to his contract.

That is his choice. Why is he isolating himself from the club?
It feels like he’s trying to make the relationship with the club untenable so to force the club to trade him.

I hope we hold him to his contract unless we get a deal so good it can’t be refused.

Anyone who thinks Viney is “as good as gone” is a moron.

Unfortunately funnier things have happened in football, many a player have said they are staying and then gone, not saying it is happening but business is business these days.

Watched the replay last night. Clearly Goodwin told the players that the shackles are off and it was time to just go and take the game on and have a bit of fun.

I thought whilst Rivers was poor by foot, he Bowey and Langdon were the ones that really got us going with their run and carry. They were top 3 for metres gained.

Please Simon, implement this game plan over the off season. We looked dangerous when we take the game on and get it quickly into our forwards.

No coincidence that Petty, JVR and Turner had combination of 10 goals between them because they got one on one contests due to quick ball movement instead of being bombed on their heads in a pack.

Thought Koltyn Tholstrup played a good game and had 24 pressure acts which is impressive for a first year player.

Have said this before on here a while back, but Daniel Turner up forward reminds me so much of David Neitz in the way he moves and jumps at the contest and his kicking action is eerily similar.

He's aggressive and hits the contests hard. Everyone thing you live as a key forward. Sam Collins started on him and by quarter time they had to move him of Turner because he could stay with him. Collins is no slouch and one of the better defenders in the league, so that's a huge confidence booster for Disco going into the pre season.

There is something to work with there. He needs a huge off season in terms of getting his fitness levels up, but if he trains as a full time forward over the summer then reason why he can't kick 30-35 goals next year

Blake Howes played his best game for the club. Looked far more composed and assured with ball in hand. Could be a smoke for rising star nomination.

Liked Marty Hores game as well. He's worth keeping on the rookie list as depth and experience. Always puts himself in good positions to take an intercept mark.

Gold Coast are an absolute joke to the competition. The amount of talent they have on their list to then perform the way that they have this is just pathetic.

I'd be going full raid on their list to pick off their young talent.

Even the best players are just threads in the culture of good teams and clubs.
Ask Buddy about leaving for more success elsewhere.

To be fair Buddy left for 10million bucks and some anonymity in Sydney.
Left after winning flag in 2013 and Hawthorn went on to win the next 2 after that.

Anyone else confused how Viney can play some games at 110% and go full beast mode while some games he just goes at about 80%? If he played with that intensity every week he’d probably be a top 3 player in the comp. Just incredible.

My theory is that when Oliver isn't playing Viney becomes 'numero uno' of the inside midfielders and his game lifts accordingly.  We saw the same last year when Oliver didn't play.

He came 7th in the Brownlow lasty year.  Without checking my guess many of them were when Oliver didn't play or when he was playing injured.  He will get 3 votes yesterday but deserved many more.

Viney's game yesterday was herculean, especially after he had a serious knock to his shoulder in the first quarter.   Showing the world the dees aren't done and underestimate us at one's peril.

Missed the first quarter and a half but have since seen the replay. I thought we were outstanding yesterday, cane with a plan and intent. We ran hard all day and looked like we wanted it. Very proud of this effort.

You have to love when Jack Viney puts in a game like this, best game of the season, he was like Knuckles the echidna.

Ed Langdon is finding his elite level once again and I'm so stoked that we've re-signed him. Look at Steele Sidebottom yesterday, these players go deep into their 30s and we need this guy holding our width going into the future.

Disco Turner presents very well and gives as a nice foil up forward, but I was particularly impressed with Petty's game, 9 touches 8 marks. Gave us something to kick to.

Love the lines Dirk runs and his field kicking will be an asset, a fit and healthy Bowey will be a good addition again next year as well.

Winning is great, let's finish strong and knock off the stupid Pies next week.

True on Nibbler, but why can't Rivers, Turner, Tholstrup, Windsor etc.   be the next to take over that mantle.

Can’t say how I feel about Trac though. Can’t see him with the team in the rooms. Oliver is there, Spargs is there.

Where are you Trac?

Could we have something a little special on our hands with Disco Turner?

Too early yet. He’s still pretty ordinary below his knees.  I recall when I first realised we had a gun in Luke Jackson, in a match v Cats in greasy conditions at the G his ball handling was sublime. Disco, nowhere near that level, his summer should be devoted to ground balls and also handball. He has missed a lot of hand passes this year.  But I do like him a lot

Very pleasing win. Shocking past couple of weeks for everyone involved with the Dees, including supporters. Partied a bit too hard last night post match. Worth it though.

The senior guys really stood up which I loved. That said more to me than Pert’s interview or the statement we released early in the week. Taking ownership of the club by players will solve a lot and see us bounce back next year.

I was always optimistic that we would have a better 25 than 24 and there are enough sprouts in the garden to make me think we can have sustained success for the next 36 months.

I had similar thoughts about Marty Hore. HBF is a unique spot to play - he has put in some good performances over time in that spot. Consistency will be the key, I guess.

He does look a real replacement for Hibberd. Good preseason in 25 will be vital

Pleasing to see a style of play with a far more attacking mindset.  Slick, quick, precise & daring

And a better balance of corridor football whilst still using teammates who have created space away from the corridor

Thought Hore probably played his best game ever for us yesterday. Took some good intercept marks, which has always been a strength of his, and he didn't look lost in the defensive system like the previous week. His kicking was also excellent through the corridor, but Hore doesn't play anything like Hibbo IMO.

The two closest players to Hibbo as running lockdown defenders on our list IMV are McVee and AMW.

Playing McVee higher and through the midfield means we need to either recruit and develop another or back in AMW.

Dazzle, was at local footy and had a peek at the score early on. Think it was 2.2 to zip. Felt we might get a touch up. GCS appears to be a club without soul. Great if you live on the GC and want to watch a high standard match but that's about it. Yeah, raid away. That Sam Flanders looked like he goes alright. No idea where he sits in their pecking order.

It was definitely good to see some freedom from the team. We still don’t punish enough teams from turnover, so we need to play more like this to learn and master the running patterns required in forward transition.

Scoring from stoppage which has been the backbone of our game plan is just too hard to do all the time. Sure it looks epic when it’s on, but teams counter this with the +1 or +2 at stoppage. This year showed that when we are a little bit off or unmanned, we are nowhere near it.

Heres hoping we do adopt a bit more of an offensive game plan next year.

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started.
