• Petracca, Oliver, May and Windsor out.

*Miller back for GC to further strengthen a potent midfield.

•South East Queensland’s hottest day forecasted in 4 months.

* MFC’s public relations at its lowest ebb since Norm Smith and the MFC had a minor disagreement.

*MFC’s first dead rubber since round 23 2019.

Aside from the above, I’m pretty bullish about today.

Hope springs eternal ... that is the problem, being a Demon supporter ... still, it would be very pleasing to have a win.

The only thing I'm really looking for today is a game style where the 'chains are loosed' so the players can actually enjoy their footy. I don't particularly care about the result, so if it means we lose (which is likely anyway) then I'm more than ok with it. Hopefully it could be some kind of preview of a more attacking game plan for next year as well, but that may be asking too much.

If we play a slow, boring, defensive game style and eek out a 64-62 loss it will be a waste of a game in my opinion.

The concept of another loss is strong but the achievement of some spirited play by the Dees with a weakened list is inviting. It is - as previously mentioned - very much like the Neeld era; at least, we had the courage and good sense to select another coach-in-charge, back then. Why can we not do so now when the chips are down, the future looks hazy, selection is often questionable, recruiting is partial in regard to talent, fans and members of the Club are so often downcast and expectant of improvements in performances, game-style, player readiness and of course, outcomes?

That's all well and good - but then if we lose, it's inferred that we lacked defensive structure and accountability.

Your right    but there is nothing to gain this year and nothing to lose,   perhaps a lower draft pick, Blimey I hope we keep our low draft pick  AND use it well.  Go Dees

All the off-field stuff has taken the focus off this week’s game. I think we’ll be competitive but ultimately I think the Suns will win by 5 goals.

Also predicting the first question from the post match presser to be about the game with the rest to be about Trac and the off-field stuff.

I do not believe we will win today but I do think we'll put up a fight. Hope to swing some magnets around.

GC by 14

Work day today but I'll be listening in on the radio while I go about my rounds. I might even watch a replay tonight if we put on a good show.

Going to my friends sons 1st birthday. And not really fussed at all I can't watch it.

Will check the scores later but I'm expecting a loss.

Just hope we can be competitive

About to jump on the bus to head down to Rye (home of the Demons) to watch local footy finals, hoping it’s being shown in the social club. Just want the team release the shackles and play with freedom amd a sense of attacking flair. Go Dees and come on Gulls!!!!!

Watching Casey atm. They’re looking okay. Taj, Pup and Jeffo are out there.

PS: it’s so hot here. Like, 3rd degree burns level hot. I worry about Clarrie and Bowser. I’m looking at BBB out there and his skin is burning before my very eyes.

Edit: yeah nah, not looking okay anymore. 😢

Did Clarry make the trip up? May? Trac?

I was going to go but I'm pretty knackered driving down from Ayr the last few days so I passed through the Gold Coast earlier and decided to spend a sunny day at Brunswick Heads instead. Go Dees anyway and I'll pop in to enjoy the meltdown on this thread in a couple of hours.

This must be someone’s idea of humour. I haven’t seen him out there today but he’s not playing his 200th, not today anyways.

Kicked 6 according to Jeff White’s instagram

I was going to take my eldest 9yo to his first dees game and try and get a photo with Nibbler afterwards after he rang the eldest on a junior ring around.

Unfortunately in Syd at brother in laws .

was ambivalent about missing but woke up in northern rivers this morning to an absolutely cracking day, so now a bit cross we’re not going especially as it was the last chance to see Nibbler.

go dees!

Will miss the first half most likely, seeing a few open for inspections. Hope we put up a fight though, Go Dees.

late changes?

Sub anyone?

thanks

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
