If you told Petracca he would be playing with the likes of McAdam, Billings, Fullarton, Schache post 2021 GF win he would ask why he was traded to North.

Our recruitment has been so [censored] bad it's insane.

Why would Trac be playing at Casey?

I don’t get it. Is this a joke?

Would love to know what his concerns are, beyond the obvious management of his terrible injury.

He is the next captain. Max should hand it over if we can calm his concerns.

I am a bit disillusioned tbh, we are playing like the team played in 2015-17. Just minimising damage and little excitement and intent. It’s gotten a bit better but it’s galling watching the Dees versus a Hawks or any team that plays with confidence.

We have to keep him. We just have to keep him.

But if we don’t - clear it out - we are not going anywhere if we lose him.

In fairness to the the 2015-2017 period at least we had a vision and a game style that Roos implemented that could stack up long term. That win against Hawthorn in 2016 is one of my more favourite wins other then the 2018 finals and Grand final.

Not only that we had one of the best operators I've ever seen in my time in supporting the club in Peter Jackson who ran a tight and disciplined ship.

He's light years ahead of Roffey and Pert.

I do understand what you mean though. News of late has sucked the absolute life out of me.

Club is rotten off the field. Every chance this is viney and petracca away of saying the off field needs to change or we leave the club.

Goodwin, Richardson, roffey, pert and the board all need to go.

Unlike others who've been posting in this thread you're not usually one prone to hyperbole FTB so I'd like to know some specifics about where the discontent lies.

Is it to do with recruiting? Conditioning/performance? Training facilities? Coaching? Allegedly Morris said the dissatisfaction wasn't with Goodwin, is it the line coaches/Richardson? Are the players dissatisfied with club leaders because of who they have put in those positions?

I get the frustration, players like Petracca want to leave a legacy, want multiple flags, want to play in front of big crowds. But where exactly is the frustration/blame being directed? What specifically are Goodwin, Pert, Richardson, Roffey, the board responsible for that is leading to you calling for their heads?

I'm just a nuffie in the outer, no connections to people in the club etc and obviously I'm not happy with where the club is at or the last 3 years but I'm also pragmatic to look at the reasons some of this has come about. I can understand if there's frustration with the coaches/recruiters but I'm not sure where the frustration would be directed at Roffey, Pert or the board - is it due to re-signing Goodwin? Poor FD appointments?

PM me if you don't feel comfortable divulging specific info on here.

On the plus side. If Tracc, Clarry and Viney all leave we'll have 7 or 8 first round picks.

Back in our element as supporters again haha.

Make of this what you will but there is a lot of angst at the club at the moment. Lots of commercial and "coterie" frustration due to the club's performances. This stems from a brand of football that is unattractive and not bringing in fans to games. Additionally, ratings have been dismal for Melbourne games, which will likely see the club relegated to Foxtel next season. This is leaking out at the same time of murmurs about Viney and Petracca... very random criticisms of Pickett... ongoing talk about Oliver. There are media darlings that are planting stories to help ignite change internally. Where that change will be I don't know.

But I am still dumbfounded that some here thought we would escape all of this after two straight finals exits, and the performance of the past 12 months.

This is a colossal fall from grace that no other team has experienced this century. If we'd started the season like we ended it, we'd be bottom four. And we played our worst football before Trac was injured.

Getting ready for a bumper off season.

this is so ridiculous I assume youre taking the mickey. . Coterie groups disgruntled. ? What were peoples expectations, we recently had the most under 22s in the AFL playing. half the side. biggest fall from Grace this century.? not even this season. Pies were premiers last year.

I watched Viney, yes.

So North are probably speaking to Todd and Todd probably isn’t mentioning it to Jack?

If we go into next year with Viney, Trac and Clarry as our starting mids, I’d say we are in grave danger. If Viney, Trac and Clarry have been told something along these lines, I suspect all three would be very, very [censored].

Next minute, Adelaide, North and knowing our luck, probably Collingwood, come banging down the door for those guys. As individuals they can all be brilliant, as a collective, they are on their last legs

I never said Todd didn’t mention it to Jack. I imagine Jack said “no thanks” but not so politely.

All 3 of these guys are contracted. We won’t trade any of them unless it suits us. Collingwood have no currency whatsoever. They traded their first round pick for Shultz (lol!).
And I can’t see any of these guys who want success (isn’t that the entire source of angst?!) going to cellar dwellers.

We will come to regret trading Oliver if it happens. Even if he never gets back to his best, to turn our back on easily a top 10 maybe even top 5 Demon would be catastrophic.

This isn't blood Treloar. Or Taranto. He's a 4x B&F winner. All Australian. An absolute champion of the club.

My view as someone that has managed large teams of 20-somethings is that you have to really identify and understand the motivations of different personalities. He's still a kid at heart. They all are. What were we all doing in our 20s?

It will be very hard for me to return if any of Viney Trac or Oliver leave.

I was where you are now last year, but I'm in the trade Clarry camp if that's what the club decides.

And Clarry is my favourite MFC of all time. Have loved watching him play.

But the last few weeks have not been good signs...

I guess the players don’t really appreciate contest and defence as much as Goody.

North would not be speaking with Jack Viney unless there was some small chance it could happen. Viney would have never dreamed of leaving Melbourne unless there was some smoke there, he’s too proud a man.

Didn't he consider going to Geelong before our flag? He ended up staying but he did consider it.

This thread needs to be put in a time capsule. When opened in 2525, it will stand as evidence of how the media created moral panic amid once like-minded citizens in 2024! The future analysis will highlight how particular personalities delighted in running with a concept that generated fear within the test group!

Hi all. First time, long time.

I know this has caused a bit of a panic - But I reckon nearly everyone, the positives and the negatives here, would agree we needed significant change this offseason yeah? As much as this kind of news hurts us fans, this is absolutely the most certain thing you could imagine that would force that change. In that regard, I'm choosing to take it as a good thing for now. Trac won't be going anywhere - We didn't trade Petty while contracted, so imagine how much more of a grip we'll keep on Christian!

We last had a year like this not long before we won a flag. We made the needed changes, trades and cleaned up at the draft. Unfortunately we've not done much since, which you could argue was either out of lack of opportunity or lack of will, but it's just the simple truth.

I feel we (the club that is) need to cop the punches from the media, listen to those with complaints (players and key stakeholders) and make the moves needed.

First stop, full, club-wide, external review please.

Glad you're on board my friend.

Agree, top post.

I reckon the players have absolutely hated playing to the recent GWS and Port crowds

I'm absolutely convinced that the club is pushing these night games against interstate teams. Something doesn't smell right that we have the most FTA games this season.

Why? We’ve won more H&A games in 2021-2023 than any other club. That usually results in getting more FTA games.
Don’t worry it’s back to Sunday twilight next year.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
