Simon "Straight Sets" Goodwin....

Yeah, those straight sets exits in 2021 and 2018 were brutal!

Goodwin is 5-5 in finals with a Premiership. Not great, definitely not bad. He has the same number of Premierships as Scott and Longmire in the last ten years but hasn’t lost the number of prelims, or the GF flogging’s those two have, is that preferable?

Longmire has zero in the last decade.

Get yours right.  He played with MFC for four seasons - 1998 to 2001.

I meant he played one full season - 2000. In fact, he played 29 games in 4 seasons, three of them cruelled by injuries.

Since we got the wobbly boots on since about round 10, 2022....

We have WON 33 and LOST 29.

LOST 4 finals in a row (Straight sets)

We also LOST 10 of our last 15 in 2024.

There are multiple factors as to why this has happened, but Goodwin has a hand in many of them IMO. It's a very big 2025 for the coach. 33 and 29 since that great run with "mostly" - Petracca, May, Lever, Brayshaw*, Petty, Oliver, Viney, Gawn, Fritsch and Pickett in the side is a big fail IMO.

No doubt about it. We need to have a big 2025. But there’s actually a good chance we do it with Gawn, Viney, Trac, Oliver, Pickett, May, Lever, Langdon, Fritsch, Rivers, McVee, Petty, JVR, Windsor, Turner and co.
Also when we lost the 10 of our last 15 we had, no Brayshaw at all, No Trac for 10, No Lever for 6, No May for 3, No Gawn for 2, No Salem for 4, No Windsor for 4 (he’s amazingly important for a first year player).
I’d back us in with a good pre-season and some luck with injuries, to say nothing of pick 5 and improvement from Jefferson, KBrown, AMW, Chandler, Howes and co.
But yes, Goodwin will be under huge pressure and should we do badly, he’ll probably be gone, such is the life of a senior coach. Hell, Longmire and Hinkley could be gone if they fail next year, and they just played in a GF and Prelim respectively.

Do we as supporters blame injuries too much or do we not have the adequate depth of a Brisbane?

In 2024 the injuries did start to pile up by the last month of the season, but in 2022 and 2023 we only had 2 or 3 best 22 players missing, and still had the elite of the elite in the side - Gawn, Trac, Oliver, May.

Brisbane just won a flag with the following players out:

Coleman - super half back flanker with an elite kick and was one of the BOG in the 23 GF

McInerney - starting ruckman.

McCarthy - capable 30 to 35 goal a year forward

Gardiner - not a particularly great player but was cemented in the best 23 as a third key forward before injury.

Cant replace your best players.

Last year we were missing 3 of our top 6 players for half a season or more.

*Oliver without a pre-season I consider missing. He is not 2024. He may never be what he was, but he can be more than 2024.

Spot on. We need a replacement for Gus and a KPF who can give us 30 goals for the season. It ain't the two backmen we are currently using.

And let's not forget his Big Fail of 2017,

disastrous seasons in 2019 & 2020 & poor coaching & player management that screwed our 2022 season.

I won't even mention this year's debacles against West Coast & Freo.

I'll make it simple for you. All 4 were Grand Final defenders.

While Goodie had the luxury of AA's Daniher had to use players who were barely AFL standard.

What was the big fail of 2017? We improved our ladder position and win/loss position from 2016, and even then our list was never going to make us finals.

The Demons made finals in 98, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006: To make finals so often with a substandard list can only have substance in the minds of the Crank Franks of the world.

Cranky doesn't do irony.

Eg, "i won't even mention this year's debacles against West Coast & Freo"

Do they think they're writing in invisible pixels?

I won't even mention how hilarious i find their posts.

Pure comedy gold.

100%. There are people on here that think we are the only team that has injuries. Carlton had a far worse run with injuries, but still made the 8. We got beaten by an Eagles side without Yeo and Allen.

And we can't use an injury to Gawn as an excuse when the club didn't bother recruiting a backup.

If Goody has to go because our list has under achieved he needs to be judged on the available list not a hypothetical one.

I don't think he is the coach for a rebuild but i also think we have another roll at the dice

You can pick and choose all you like: what you cannot deny is that the injuries most affected the Forward line's depletion. In the end, you only win if ya kick da goals, my friend. If der's nobody up there to kick to, then, maybe you are pushing dung uphill. But, of course, according to the Cranks and Franks and such-like armchair experts, the problem is Goodwin. Get ridda him, and hey, no matter who can't get a gig or a game on the forward line, it won't be the coach's fault anymore, see.!

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
