The signs are as clear as day that the senior group are simply not responding. And when that occurs, you know something is up.

Having been involved in high level sport, I can only imagine how Goody's repetitive, boring and robotic messaging around 'what we value', 'what needs to be at the level', 'how we want to play' must be landing. One of the most important attributes of a coach is motivating a playing group and he is simply failing abysmally in this area. The writing is absolutely on the wall.

Do supporters realise we were almost at full strength and Carlton were missing half their best 22 just about? That is a [censored] disgrace. A disgrace.

I don't care what it costs financially, if supporters believe that this senior group is going to bounce after another pre-season of Godwin's messaging, you've lost it. I know for a fact from certain people connected with the club that there were already a handful of players who were against the way Goody wanted to play. That they thought it was not working, was boring, boring for the fans. I mean it's clear as day that there's truth in that given the lack of fight, motivation and connectedness across the group week to week in match day performance. Absolutely clear.

If he stays next year, we might see more senior players want out than we'd like. If he goes and we bring someone like Buckley in, I can see a spike in performance immediately from a senior core group who are desperate for a fresh voice and someone who can set a new standard and bring a rebirth of motivation, performance standards, lightness and fun.

This current setup is dead. Goodwin will talk positives in every media conference, he'll continue to spin the "I have incredible belief" talk no matter how bad it gets.

The decision needs to be made.

But he’s really good friends with the players.

Tough pill to swallow losing last night in itself but then to hear that news was even more deflating.

I heard that too but if we lose members, lose sponsors, have Low game attendances on top of that the media pressure this attitude will change. A new chairman and prez will not want to be in charge of the titanic Things can change quickly

So I don’t expect anyone would be able to doubt my commitment to the club.

However, I decided today that I can’t be bothered going next Sunday to Marvel (a ground that I dislike and where my reserved seat lapses under my home and away membership). I kept going through the decades of bad years - faithfully. Someone once asked me why I kept turning up when the team loses so by so much so often. I replied: “There is an aesthetic in the struggle” - and that was my approach.

I would, of course, regularly interrogate myself to wonder why supporting a team is so irrational (especially in the context of the MFC). My father supported MFC so I did - a child’s commitment. What is the adult logic in that? I have never successfully answered that question to my own liking. It is what it is, as they say.

At any rate, I am done for the time being. I am sick of the nonsense that the coach pumps out in his weekly media appearances. It is frankly insulting. It is not about getting ‘value for money’. It is about not being part of a scam and the way the coach smoothly shifts between ‘learnings’, ‘it is not about winning’, ‘we are building something’, ‘the game plan is about to be understood’ and all the rest of the corporatised nonsense he gets from some management training seminars or wherever just insults the intellect of the membership.

The lack of response from the senior management who seem to cosy up and enjoy the wine and food on game days but refuse to publicly take responsibility. It is ludicrous that we have an interim leadership who cannot do anything because we are waiting for the real leadership to arrive - when we are in the throes of a football season where key decisions are required and we are performing so intolerably.

So I have decided to not go this weekend and save the travel time and dollars and my happiness.

There is no aesthetic in being scammed by the club any longer.

When October comes up, I will review my long-term membership status - currently I am doubtful I will continue if the senior coach is still there at the head of the scam.

I have the MFC/MFC renewal email sitting in my account right now for next year

I haven’t made up my mind what i am going to do yet.

I will wait until the CEO joins and see what his strategy is.

I hope people inside the Club do read this site….

There aren't examples of coaches in the AFL era winning a GF, rebuilding, then winning again with same club.

Longmire went very close. Malthouse rebuilt and finally won after the early 2000s losses. Geelong have never done a full rebuild, and Chris Scott inherited the team for his first flag.

Precedent isn't everything, but history says Goodwin won't be the one getting us back to the top.

It would not surprise me at all if he stays on next year. As a cash strapped club I doubt we will want to pay two coaches at the same time.

After watching the Presser last night, I'm starting to wonder if Goody is starting to lose some of the players. That's now a couple of really poor starts where he's indicated that the players effort and intensity were to blame. Goodwin is banging on about not wanting to waste a minute of this year and set us up for next year but it seems to me the players just aren't buying that message.
