And your last bit is I think the underlying issue. I think you and the others who agree with you are just frustrated that our flag came in 2021. The benchmark isn’t a second flag, you just want to replicate it in a normal Melbourne year. It reads like you’re criticising me for “reliving” 2021, as if it’s a crime to reflect positively on it.

I think its a crime that we lost 4 finals in a row with the list that we have.

I could never call this era and Goody's time a failure. I just couldn't, no matter how frustrated I get.

I just wish it turned out a bit better during that time, that's all. Will take it over nothing at all though.

It's a pressure industry. Everyone has it, If you don't like it get out

I hope no-one from the football team reads this. I would hate to have you as a fan.

We went 57 years without winning a flag and then won one in an amazing year. Sure, it would have been awesome to win more in a row but we didn't. The fact people on here feel somehow entitled to it is ridiculous. Dynasties are rare. Some people need to take a step back and realise they sound like spoilt brats. But many people have preached this for ages on demonland and nothing changes.

I think for the next decade we're going to see a real mix of winners. Not sure how many "repeats" or back to backs we'll get. A very open competition.

Our list was and is good but there are clubs that are just as stacked. I think there really is an unfair glorification of our list. Take the fact that we have never had a true star forward. There are teams that were more represented in the AA in 22 and 23. Again, such entitlement. Some teams are/were stacked and never managed to win one premiership, let along multiple.

I have to agree. We should have at least made a preliminary final in those 2 years

Gee, that's an original viewpoint. I haven't heard any poster say that before.

At last - someone who sees that other clubs want to win flags too, and some of them actually have pretty good lists.

I think you are having a go at me but honestly, can't you do better than that?

My point was: the amount of times I read on this absolutely c..p thread that Good has wasted a list, the likes of which have never been seen before on earth or in heaven.

Which is such rubbish. We have had a strong list with a number of superstars. In the same period, so have WB, Brisbane, Carlton, Sydney.... two of which are empty-handed.

Agreed.

We have too many average/poor kicks in our midfield. The long bombs are useless, especially when we have a bunch of prepubescent kpf's who understably struggle to take a contested mark

Max, Viney, Tracc, Clarry, Langdon, Sharp, Sparrow and Billings are all unreliable by foot

Hopefully the addition of Langford and Lindsay will improve this delivery, but it’s 2-3 years away before they hit their peak. We desperately need more elite kicks and decision makers

IMO Max should not go i50, certainly not as a tall target. He's a terrible kick, can't hit the ocean with a beach ball. AJ or JVR should take ruck there

Yep ...Max should play a kick behind the ball much of the time. Imv that's when our wall looks more impenetrable although that was at least 2 years ago (or more) i think.

Can Max still take those down the line intercepts as much as he once did?

And not giving 1 second of playing time to a starting sub in a semi final while the opposition’s sub is instrumental in their game winning passage of play.

The head coach should not be kicking own goals in a final.

Yes... was ridiculing the suggestion. It deserved it.

Sorry to say whilst we ought to have made a better showing of 22 and 23.. atm we are ver VERY over rated and Goodwin is running on the fumes of past imaginings.

The Bulldigs are one hit wonders.... guess what, so are we.

Take a closer look at Sydney... they've been there or thereabouts for along while but I might agree their actual dividends are wanting. Brisbane of the last few decades make us look very average and underachieving. Can't be bothered with the scum... ( that said more than likely to finish higher than us )

Has Goody [censored] up and wasted a list ? [censored].. what universe do you live in ??

Sorry mate, I still don't get your point - I THINK you are disagreeing with me but crikey, you are making a terrible job of it.

Bulldogs got a flag 9 years ago and I C an talking about much more recent history than that. You might not have noticed, but a lot of outsiders think their list has been the best in the league. Certainly, plenty of people think that Brisbane have got a GREAT list - actually, they do - and they have had one flag (20 years ago is ancient history). Others think the same of Carlton - no flags. Geelong have been thereabouts for ever - many many prelims - one flag in the last 15 years. Sydney - always there, no recent flags.

Apart from last year we have been super-competitive, with a very good list. End of story.

If you want to comment, can you do so in a way that we can understand?

The way some people describe our "wasted years" on here, it actually does sound like true genius. You'd think we were the only good team in the AFL in 22, and 23.

This thread isn’t about a wasted dynasty, it’s about a coach who inherited an amazing list and amazing system who systemically destroyed the list over the last few years. He achieved this through poor team selection, lack of ability to make game day tactical moves, a very poor outdated game plan with a stubbornness to change.

my belief is that we would have won more finals with a more nimble, tactical robust coach who doesn’t play favorites.

Look at poor Spargo, twice he has come back early from LTI and twice got injured (different injuries) on 1st game back. This is on the entire coaching team and the head coach is ultimately accountable for performance and on this metric he has failed.

the time to go has already past.

Anthony Hudson eloquently described tonight’s come from behind inspirational Bulldogs win over Carlton as this:

“Such a Luke Beveridge performance”

Can anyone here describe what a “Simon Goodwin performance” looks like?

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
