Why not all who miss out on top 8 play in the prefinals bye week to determine draft choice order.  

Say 9v10, 11v12 etc with the winners to get the higher picks than those they beat.  May not change things very much except 17v18 there would be incentive to win not tank to get #1.  And of course the AFL would get some extra $$$$$.

The Wild Card round doesn't reward mediocrity.

It rewards high performance by guaranteeing the top 6 teams qualify for finals.

The top 8 essentially becomes a top 6 after round 24 is completed. How is that rewarding mediocrity?

I'm with you BBP, it also rewards teams in form at the pointy end and makes it harder for teams in the bottom half of the 8 limp into finals, like the Blues did this year.

I can tell you now, i would HATE it if a MFC Player did an ACL during a “Wild Card” Round, and missed the next year, just so the AFL could make some extra $$

Teams outside the 8 are not good enough to play finals

With 19 teams in 2028, the wild card weekend will most likely come in then.

And the wild card rewards a top 6, not a top 8. 7th and 8th will become also rans and I don't see that as a bad thing.

Teams 9 & 10 can watch the games from a Sports Bar in Asia 

Mark my words, if this ludicrous rule is bought in, the first ACL or serious injury will have the AFL Community frothing at the mouth

Not irrelevant at all. The AFL oversees both the men’s and the women’s comps. You think the M draw has no effect on the W draw? Just this weekend… Bulldogs vs Port is tomorrow afternoon at 4:30 thereby not clashing with the men’s final that evening. We play this Saturday at 11:05am, there’s two other matches beginning at 1:05pm then nothing else, again because of the two consecutive men’s finals. On Sunday there’s no AFL matches so the remaining five W matches are scattered on that day.

As for the W comp developing at its own pace… no, it’s not. Its pace of development is determined by - and at the mercy of - the AFL.

I’m in. Have two footies on the ground (a red one is worth normal scores, a golden ball is worth double scores). A bull gets entered onto the field 10 minutes into each quarter, at every centre bounce all the midfielders and rucks are blind folded and no player can enter the centre square until the midfield gets it out. Oh and obviously every time the golden ball scores a double goal, the teams switch ends.

The AFLW is not at this stage  able to compete with 4 top exciting AFL Finals. They for this weekend are scheduled around the AFL Finsls ( What all players play for. 
 

The women’s draw was sorted out after an AFL scheduling stuff up the Bulldogs pointed out. Those Power and Bulldogs girls  will have a great time. And all others will play on the busiest round in the season. 

Only 2 games for the next Finals weekends and one on GF including  a holiday when I bet the AFLW will play.

Dont worry if you check the draw for AFLW there are more rounds than weekends resulting on mid week games which will be feast. AFL don’t even do that. The 2,000 who attend the AFLW should be thrilled as the leagues takeover for 2 months then Finals. 
The AFL only manage the AFLW because if the incompetence of the administration like Nicol Livingstone the in about 5 years didn’t come up with any real pluses got the ladies. It has evolved due to the  competitions underneath and young girls of 7/8 previously who have grown up and love the gameie natural development.

Have always watched the girls and admire their standard of play and their remarkable spirit of the competition. Long may it continue and grow like the Women’s Cricket has.

My point about being irrelevant is still made. 
The Men’s major  Finals weekend is never  going to be placed 2nd to the AFLW games. The wildcard round will still only have 2 games. 

AFLW will build and be a great product in conjunction with the AFL but not at its expense. Be real please and understand the tea leaves. Plus 10 teams are free for fans with no hard choice if they want to watch their  ladies play. 

CA don’t put off the BBBL because a Test match is being played.

Both coaches also play, they aren’t allowed to touch either of the balls but they can tag an opposition player and that player then has to run to the bench and ring a bell before they can continue playing, haha

If you accept that 7-8 become also rans, why do you then advocate for them playing 9-10?

The AFL want this for money. Most of the rest of us don’t want more unnecessary games of football which, contrary to your argument, do reward mediocrity by putting 9-10 into finals (because let’s be honest, the wild card round is simply another week of finals).

Rounds 1-17, play everyone once

Ladder after round 17 is split into 3, Top 6, Middle 6, Bottom 6

Top 6 guaranteed finals, play each other once to determine top 6 order

Bottom 6 play each other for ladder position and determine number of balls for “lottery” draft picks (picks 1-6), with highest getting more, etc.
