Cooney is genuinely a halfwit. How he is still making a buck from the media is mind blowing.

I genuinely believe Oliver’s best football is past him and the club knows this. Without his ability to burst out of packs he becomes just another ‘in and under’ player. Not worth $1m. I reckon if a club were to offer to take his contract, dees would be happy to part ways.

I just listened to Clayton Oliver on The Unlaced Podcast with Jake Barker-Daish. It was an excellent listen. Do yourself a favour.
My takeaways:
1. Clayton is in a very good head space. He sounds like he is in a very healthy state.
2. He loves the Melbourne Football Club and all his mates there.
3. He can’t wait to get back into training, he’s going back with the 1-4 year players. He acknowledges he was not fit this year and still describes himself as being “a bit fat”. He is very confident he will get back to where he was.
4. He rubbished the claims that Melbourne’s culture is poor. “We’re all mates and love having a laugh together. We just laugh at the media because they don’t know what’s happening on the inside”.
5. He loves Gawny and all that the skipper has done for him.
This was recorded last week. If Clayton is sitting down with Geelong, I can guarantee that it is not him that is pulling the strings on any potential move.
Over to you, Melbourne.

Really interesting, and not surprising based on what I have heard to date. Clarry looks to have gotten himself into a really good space, happy and healthy, which is great. He loves the club. From what WCW has said and what we have observed, I think he's an emotional guy, so this love for the club is important, and so is the love in return.

That's where it gets interesting. So my take is that he's been shopped - hence the Cats have, again, felt he is gettable - since they've received intel that he's on the table for the right price. Clarry has caught onto this. He updated his insta to remove references to the Club (#13) 😢 - and met with the Cats. This express action, I think, would be consistent with an emotional (maybe a little immature, sure, we know this already) guy who has felt pushed out.

This does not look to be Clarry's doing and as usual, we're getting mixed messages/non-messages from the worst comms team in the southern hemisphere. Maybe all the lands.

Feel for Clarry. I reckon he's gonna be a jet next year. He's happy and healthy and will have a good preseason with the 1-4 year players. He's keen. But it appears this issue is not confined just to Clarry, which is really frustrating.

One thing that is abundantly evident is that there is a significant disconnect between the back office and the football department. The idea of Pert intervening here and telling Oliver directly to look around, despite reports most key figures in the football department wants him to stay is very concerning and unprofessional. It's all getting very tiresome with all the smoke and mirrors of the club these days & hard to believe a word that anybody says.

I would also argue that there is a possibility that Goodwin wants this, but if a trade is not agreed- would want to appear as if he is not involved.  As he will need a working relationship with Clarry. Just a thought.
Better to make Pert the bad guy.

I enjoy posts which start with IF in the first sentence (good) but then in the rest of the post act as if there is no doubt.

Stafford gone, Roffey gone, McQualter gone, Janette Kendall gone from the board, ANB going, Oliver going?

Are we in the midst of the domino effect?

The external/internal review happening now

Those under discussion by those on the outside ...

Pert, Richardson, Petracca, Lamb, Kozzie and there might be one or 2 more

And the review might expose Goodwin (game plan primarily)

From my point of view, the biggest concerns are player behaviour, injury issues and and our pedestrian style of play

Off field?  There's probably a lot that we don't know about, so it's a guessing game

If you are not extremely concerned that this club is seemingly being run by a bunch of blind monkeys flinging poo at the wall to see what sticks, then you should be.

Leaving the Clarry trade aside, you've had Green take over as caretaker president, and since then he's had his pants pulled down by Gutnick, he's got Pert running a review when he should be reviewed instead, all the while this sinking ship is leaking worse than the Titanic.

I am going to give Pert the benefit of the doubt here, and say that he isn't sitting in Noosa and ringing clubs around without the backing of the board. So if the board is letting Pert run the show, because they have lost faith in the FD, be it Goody, Lamb or Richo, then forget trading Clarry and get on with replacing the people in the FD and let their replacements make the list management calls!

One thing is certain, a bunch of doctors, lawyers and ex footballers sitting on a board, have 0 credentials to make list management calls. And having the CEO act as a proxy for them, is even worse!

More smoke is appearing it seems.

Edmund: “It’s understood Oliver’s recent behaviour has again tested the patience of some teammates, while the club has been disappointed in some things he has not committed to.”

I have spoken to one player (a few months ago) who has never really gotten over the events of last year. He suggested at least some of the other players were still dirty about tthe ‘preferential’ treatment he got ie if they did the same they would’ve been booted out the door.

As stated, Oliver doesn't want to leave

Club open to him staying

Pert goes and does his own thing.

And yet he opens up enquiries on other parts of the football club. He's a disgrace

I want Pert gone, but there's no way Pert is acting on his own here.

Sure, the FD may not be for it, but what about our board? If you're shopping around one of your highest paid players without board approval, you may as well tender your resignation.

People need to be a little bit smarter about this.

100%. Pert might be super happy to run the show, but he's not running it unless Green and the rest of the board are giving him the green light to do so.

He might also be making decisions without the board's approval, but on the whole I would say the board would have given him support to get involved.

The scope of the review ought be expanded to encompass the CEO’s role in recent times.

This is started to look even worse.

It also be conducted at arms length. Malcolm speed was right.

IF what is said about Pert is true, I’m worried and it’s hard to escape the conclusion we are not a serious club

You mean like Deemocracy and Peter Lawrence have been saying for a while? I agree.

any review should also explore how and why our club is leaking like the frikn titanic.

Read the last paragraph. In other words, in July he had a conversation (allegedly) and has tagged this on to give the post credence. It doesn't have to be truthful but rather, give the illusion of truth.

I've always liked the late comedian George Burn's quote: The key to success is sincerity. If you can fake that you've got it made.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
