We don't need him.  Play Petty back and use our first pick on our next elite midfielder.

Correct and this could also free up McVee (albeit at diff defensive playing role) to start gradually playing more minutes through the middle.

No conflict of interest there.

Made some good points. Mix of Melbourne supporters ringing up and having their say. Felt like reading DL with  a few living in denial, others throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Was a good laugh.

Did this hack apologize for his [censored] take on Clarry now that his injuries have been made public? I bet not.

How about you worry about Port doing something in finals for once Kane

I wouldn't read to much into that afl.com article. Very specifically doesn't say that Houston is having second thoughts or rethinking coming to us, just that our tumble down the ladder and Trac's unhappiness throws a doubt on his preference, I.e. it might make a difference.

Just the media beating something up again.

I saw a PA supporter saying that the starting should be Pickett plus pick 6.  There is some really dumb footy supporters out there

I’m surprised they haven’t said it should be Trac and pick 6 🙄

I hope it was some 4D chess from the club, leak some stuff to the media to cool Houston’s enthusiasm and avoid using pick 6 😄

“It is understood Houston has had second thoughts about making the move to the Demons despite Melbourne’s strong interest in the All-Australian playmaker.

It is a blow for Melbourne who had their eye on Houston to help improve their delivery from the back half.

But the club will be forced to look elsewhere as it is aware Houston is considering other options.

It has been a turbulent week for Melbourne which is holding talks with superstar Christian Petracca over his frustrations with the club which have put a cloud over his future in red and blue.

The off-field issues at Melbourne mean Houston is considering other clubs in Victoria to continue his AFL career, but in any case a deal could be very difficult.“

What's it say?

Paraphrasing but essentially that the smoke around our club has made Houston rethink wanting to request a trade here, and is now more open to offers from other Vic clubs

So let me get this straight. All of this talk inside the club that supposedly didn’t happen has now caused Houston to change his mind. Have I got that right?

Who said it didn’t happen? Goodwin literally said today that conversations are being had.
Nobody has once denied that talks are ongoing in an effort to improve performance.

And if Houston has decided this doesn’t suit him, then frankly he can bugger off. Coming from a club that has done SFA despite finishing top 4 for the last decade, he might not be aware that improvement is possible  🙄

Its not a horror week. Read the articles. Houston will only leave if Port get adequate compensation for him, he may still stay. Weeks ago when this broke MFC were vying for a top 8 spot and could have gone as high as 4th if they hadn't lost those close games. Perhaps the club was willing to part with pick 12 or 13 but now we are looking at 6 that is too much.

It all depends on his reasons for leaving and where he expects to play. The only clubs with lots of picks will be Richmond or interstate teams like Freo. If he only wants to come to a club in the premiership window I can tell you there aren't many Victorian clubs in the 8 let alone in contention (maybe Geelong). I hate to say it but Cornes may be right here. Don't waste a top 10 pick on Houston.

Not a bad thing. Take pick 6 to the draft, try to get another first rounder with our future first.

Also interested in how the club handles this now. Effectively, the only real issue this week is from Trac, given Viney isn't going and Nibbler is family-related, and it seems to now have prevented a trade occurring. I'm assuming that isn't what Trac wanted, but it's happened and the club can't be happy about it

We seriously need a cigar lounge to chill in for a while on DL. The last three days have been full on here and some of us simply can’t catch up.

Jay Clarke reporting that he thinks Dan Houston will now wont be at Melbourne due to the off field issues and will assess other Victorian options or stay at Port Adelaide.

Yeah I agree. I’d rather we take pick 6 to the draft. Nothing against Houston but don’t think it make sense for us to give up such a good pick for a 28 year old flanker when we have other needs.

All media beat up. With a list of over 40 every club will have a few disgruntled players. Everyone in your workplace of similar size happy?

I worked with a few who whined non stop and pledged every Friday to buy Saturday's Age and find another job. This went on for 30 plus years until they retired.

If we are into a mini rebuild better to use our early picks hoping for elite mids. Next year we have hopefully talls in White and Ah-Mu via FS and Academy respectively coming in. So maybe a trade in next year.

Goody said at today's presser we have some good young players coming thru in response to an ANB question.

I think we will run McVee through the midfield more in the remaining 2 rounds and persevere with Riv who has been good in the mid.

Herald Sun couldn't let Cal Twomey's Gettable website/podcast get all the traffic.

Relax. Pick 6 not going anywhere. Much more likely to be next year’s first and a swap of other picks (i.e our second for their third), if it happens at all.
